Crafting winning strategies in a mature market - US wine marketSaurabh Arora
The US wine industry in 2001 was characterized by a mature market with a few large players dominating the low price segment. The top 8 firms produced over 75% of the volume while approximately 2,500 other firms split the remaining 25%. It was difficult for new companies to enter the industry due to high startup costs, oversupply of grapes, and consolidation among retailers and distributors. A company considering entry would need to target the 90% of the population that did not regularly drink wine or create a new market segment. The best strategy would be a blue ocean approach to expand the market rather than compete in the already crowded premium and budget segments. Established players should also look to tap new demand and acquire distribution to grow. The industry

Bei der Digital Konferenz The Future of AI & Big Data Analytis spricht Dr. Wolfgang Hildesheim, Director, Head of Watson & Artifical Intelligence. Sein Thema: Diskussion mit einer KI ? - Projekt Debater !

- Was tun andere Firmen; gibt es Beispiele?
we.CONECT organisiert vom 23. - 24. September 2013 in Berlin die Konferenz Big Data Minds 2013. Kernthemen sind u,a. Effizientes Big Data Management | Tools und Technologien zur Analyse großer Datenmengen | Der Einfluss von Enterprise Mobility und Cloud Computing | Aufbau einer performanten Big Data-Architektur | Absicherung gegen externe Bedrohungen

Global Sourcing: Enhancing the concept of time*
Challenge:
• 24×7 operations within one time zone burden employees, families and organisations
Solution:
• Utilize the concept of time for people’s benefits
• 24×7 operation can be easily provided through intelligent deployment of time differences around
the globe “day-only workforce” / “be there when the customer needs you!”
Examples:
• Call centre operations (“follow the sun” of Lufthansa)
• Time critical customisation of SW (TM: UK, India, US)

1. Integration von ausländischen Fachkräften in Deutschland
2. Aufbau und Management „gut kontrollierbarer“ Ingenieursleistungen,
z.B. aus Osteuropa, Russland oder Indien?

Web-basierte Plattform als wesentlicher Baustein
Features
Intranet based, usage “a must for everybody”
Important is to ensure/enforce a disciplined usage of this platform (e.g. meeting notes to be
provided also for local meetings)
English as only language
Integrated (as much as possible) with common platforms in use (specs, …)
Space for “personal pages” (getting to know each other better)?
Email distribution list do not provide “always access” and “reproducibility”
Only online tools offer long term cost effectiveness and reduce time zone issues
…
Content
Clear (written) articulation of global strategy of management and disclosure to / discussion
with regional centres
Clear guidelines and decision rules (templates), relevant for all
Availability of common glossary & abbreviations (no “misunderstanding”)
Newsgroups for news and FAQ

Qualitätsmanagement und ein „Frühwarnsystem“
Metriken eines Qualitätsmanagements (Auszüge):
Productivity and productivity × labour costs
Efficiency
Effort & schedule variance (compared to budget/plan)
Defect density (per project, release, …), Defect removal efficiency
Timeliness and quality of Documentation
Continuous improvement (in % of the above values)
New ideas on either product enhancements or cost optimisation
Level of detail of specification
Speed of development and implementation
Time to solve errors of priority one
“Frühwarnsystem” (Beispiele)
Long term projects
- Productivity and (productivity × labour costs)
- Efficiency
- Error rates (per month, project, release, …)
- Time to solve errors of priority one
Short term projects
- Level of detail of specification and budget planning
- Speed of development and implementation

Einige „Lessons Learnt“ bzgl. Indien
Motivation
…
