Information Architecture Techniques and Best PracticesChris Furton
Developing information structures, such as websites or systems, involves a complex set of processes with the goal of making information usable, findable, and organized. Information Architecture tools, techniques, and best practices provide the building blocks to achieving the end state. With hundreds and possibly thousands of tools and techniques available, this paper explores five specific options: card sorting, free-listing, perspective-based inspection, personas, and content value analysis. These five techniques span the breadth of the information architecture project and provide insight into the constantly evolving and developing information architecture field.
Triple Crown of Custom Content - IA Strategy SessionGloria Antonelli
Preplanning the relationships of custom post types, taxonomies and custom fields using Information Architecture and Content Architecture best practices. This ensures your WordPress content structure is organized effectively by taking the time to conduct analysis and planning, before implementation.
The document discusses the future of information architecture and key trends in the field. It notes that information architecture aims to connect users seeking information with businesses providing that information. Some important trends it identifies include the increasing speed and simplicity of search, the rise of visualization and interactive tools, personalized organization of information, and information architects taking on more leadership roles.
This document appears to be about information architecture and architecture more broadly. It includes short passages and quotes on topics like: the architecture of understanding, Michael Cohen who studied math and history, the architecture of a class, MOOCs competing with traditional education, information literacy, back pain and MRI results, the complexity of medicine, willpower being important for success, and how structures shape us. It also discusses architects creating order and maps of information, cyberspace requiring architects, and information architects making invisible connections visible.
Information Architecture has everything to do with your theme!Steven Slack
If you are tasked with putting together a WordPress theme for a client organization or business the theme you select is very important. Perhaps your first inclination is to choose a theme that looks great or let your client choose a theme that they are happy with. This practice however can have negative repercussions for your client. In this talk we will discuss how to appropriately choose a theme or build a theme that supports your clients goals. Using information architecture we can better select themes or build new ones.
The document discusses principles of taxonomy. It covers a brief history of taxonomies, modern uses of taxonomies, the purpose of taxonomies including finding related items and improving search results, and how to build and maintain a taxonomy including conducting a content audit and determining relationships between terms. It also discusses transferring taxonomy skills to other domains.
This presentation will examine the purpose and application of information architecture for the so-called ‘next generation’ of information tools, including blogs and wikis. We will introduce ‘needs based’ information architecture, the methodology used for organising and designing information-rich environments in a way that allows people to use them more easily. We will then look at how the best practice principles behind this approach apply equally well to emerging technologies.

Embracing failure is important for game developers according to Tim Lossen of Wooga. They use a portfolio approach, developing multiple games simultaneously so a failure of one game does not jeopardize the company. It is also important to fail early in the development process through frequent testing. While the emotional side of failure is difficult, being proud of failures can help companies improve through learning.

15. Information Architecture
@kirstenschelper
Warum ist das eine falsch und das
andere richtig?
1. Ohne gute IA muss der Designer raten welcher Inhalt
wo steht und welches Gewicht er hat.

verloren.
beizutreten.
Was muss man dafür tun?
Was sind
Was
ansprechen.

IA beantwortet folgende Fragen
✓ Wo steht was im Layout
✓ Wie werden die Inhalte gewichtet
(groß/klein, erste Stelle/zweite Stelle, oberste Ebene/
weiter innen)
(Tabs, Buttons, Animationen etc.)
30. Information Architecture
@kirstenschelper
Die Arbeit des Designer verändert sich
2. Wireframes geben die Position der Inhalt vor
= Viele Entscheidungen sind bereits getroffen
(z.B. Art der Navigation, Gewichtung & Reihenfolge
der Elemente)
38. Information Architecture
@kirstenschelper
Arbeit im Team
2. Nicht alleine vor sich hinwursteln
3. Auch mal was Unfertiges diskutieren,
schrittweise und zusammen mit dem Kunden
entwicklen
= Discuss early, discuss often

@kirstenschelper
Zusammenfassung
2. Die richtige Reihenfolge einhalten:
Vom Nutzer und vom Inhalt her denken (Content First)
3. Ein gutes Team: Designer mit Weberfahrung & Coder mit
Design-Erfahrung
4. Kleine Schritte gehen, zusammen mit dem Kunden
