Classroom Observation Form
1. PRE-OBSERVATION DISCUSSION WITH FELLOW: SUGGESTED
QUESTIONS (Before Lesson)
Here are a few questions to guide the fellows before or after their lesson plans. This can
be done through conversation. The purpose is to get the fellows to think critically about
what they have prepared for their students.
1. Why did you choose these learning objectives?
(Warum haben Sie diese Lernziele zu wählen?)
2. What prior knowledge and skill do students need in order to be successful in
reaching the learning objectives of this lesson? How will you find out about students’
prior knowledge?
3. How will you consider the different learning styles of your students?
5. Why have you chosen these teaching methods and activities?
6. What have you chosen to evaluate student learning using the strategies you have
described? (Explore the relationship to the stated learning objectives and to the students.)
7. How and when are you going to make students aware of expectations?
8. What are you going to do when expectations are not met? Explain?
2. 9. Where in your lesson plan will you include Checks for Understanding?
(Wo in Ihrem Unterrichtsplan werden Sie Checks für Verständigung sind?)
10. What 2 “key points” are you going to enforce in your lesson? How will you get there?
(Welche 2 "Eckpunkte" wollen Sie in Ihren Unterricht zu erzwingen? Wie werden Sie
dort hin?)
3. Glows und Grows Observation:
(Review teacher notes. This is the form that teachers fill out during the lesson.) Discuss positive aspects
of the session first. While it is easier to focus on changes, positive aspects of the instructor’s teaching
need to be recognized so that they can be continued. Refer to the positive aspects of the lesson as
“GLOWS” and the areas of need as “GROWS.” Glow: what the teacher did very well that he or she
can continue doing. Grow: what is something the teacher can strengthen and make better or stronger.
