This document proposes and evaluates Inter-Domain Packet Filters (IDPF) to limit IP spoofing by filtering packets based on feasible inter-domain routes inferred from BGP updates. IDPFs were found to effectively limit spoofing capability even with partial deployment, and improve accuracy of tracing spoofed traffic to its origin. The performance of IDPFs was studied through metrics like limiting the number of address prefixes that can be spoofed and localizing the source of attacks. Complications from non-standard routing policies and dynamic routing were also discussed.
Spyware refers to software that is installed on an user's computer without their consent and is used to collect information about their internet activity. Unlike viruses and worms, spyware does not self-replicate but exploits infected computers to display unsolicited ads, steal personal information, and monitor browsing activity. Users typically notice unwanted ads, reduced performance, and changes to browser settings due to multiple spyware infections. While anti-spyware software and safe computing practices can help detect and remove spyware, rogue anti-spyware programs also pose a threat by falsely claiming to find infections.
This document discusses spyware and adware, including their history, how they work, and how to detect and remove them. It defines spyware and adware, explaining that spyware reports user data while adware displays ads. The document rates popular spyware removal tools and recommends always keeping them updated to remove spyware and adware that may infect computers through free downloads or pop-ups. It emphasizes preventing infection by avoiding unnecessary downloads and clicking pop-ups whenever possible.

Spyware is a kind of malware on both PCs and mobile devices that collects a broad amount of data about a person or organization without their knowledge.
The document summarizes Bluetooth technology. It discusses how Bluetooth simplifies wireless data synchronization using short-range radio technology. It then describes the Bluetooth protocol stack including layers like the baseband, LMP, HCI, and various adopted protocols. The document outlines Bluetooth profiles and how they describe implementation of user models. It also provides an overview of Bluetooth modes of operation, versions, applications, advantages, security issues, and disadvantages.
Spyware is software that is installed onto a computer without the user's knowledge or consent in order to gather information about the user. It monitors user activity and transmits this data to third parties who may use it for advertising or sell it. Having spyware running in the background can slow down a computer and cause crashes due to it using system resources. Common ways of getting spyware include downloading file sharing programs or clicking on deceptive pop-up windows.
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) allows users to access information over wireless networks using small, handheld devices. It is an open standard that works across different wireless technologies and operating systems. WAP uses WML (Wireless Markup Language) instead of HTML for smaller screens and provides a gateway infrastructure in networks to enable wireless web access. While WAP faces limitations like small screens and connection speeds, it allows users to access services like news, sports scores, email and online purchases from their mobile phones.
This document provides an overview of computer viruses and anti-virus software. It defines what viruses are and how they spread, describes common types of viruses. It then explains what anti-virus software is, how it works to detect and remove viruses, and lists some popular anti-virus programs. It concludes with a brief history of anti-virus software development from the late 1980s onward.
Cyber crime involves unlawful activities using computers and the internet. The document categorizes cyber crimes as those using computers to attack other computers or as tools to enable real-world crimes. It provides examples of various cyber crimes like hacking, child pornography, viruses, and cyber terrorism. It stresses the importance of cyber security to defend against attacks through prevention, detection and response. The document advises safety tips like using antivirus software, firewalls, and strong passwords. India's cyber laws address both traditional crimes committed online and new crimes defined in the Information Technology Act.
Web spoofing involves masquerading as another user or program to gain an illegitimate advantage. There are several types of spoofing, including IP spoofing where the sender address is falsified, and web spoofing where an adversary can observe and modify web pages sent to the victim. Defenses include ingress/egress filtering to block spoofed IP addresses, and users verifying URLs and SSL certificates when entering sensitive information online.
This document provides an overview of cyber crime and security. It defines cyber crime as illegal activity committed on the internet, such as stealing data or importing malware. The document then covers the history and evolution of cyber threats. It categorizes cyber crimes as those using the computer as a target or weapon. Specific types of cyber crimes discussed include hacking, denial of service attacks, virus dissemination, computer vandalism, cyber terrorism, and software piracy. The document concludes by emphasizing the importance of cyber security.
