11. Life is Life…
This remarkable downturn was not based upon lack of
innovation or decrease in interest in photography as the
enterprise even invented the technology with which more tahn 70
billions of pictures can be uploaded anualy to Facebook.
What led to Kodak`s near extinsion was FEAR, that digital
technology will canibalize the lucrative
filmbusiness.
This fear led Kodak to ignore the trend to accelerate
digitization for 37 years - since the invention of
the digital camera in 1975 - and hindered the enterprise to
take all appropriate steps to keep, connect and enthusiase already
existing customers.
In January 2012 Eastman Kodak Co ran
into Chapter 11.
Marking the end of an era of one
of the greatest innovators of
the world, an Enterprise that played
since more than 130 years an important role in
the life of millions of people as they enabled
the famaous "Kodak-Moment".
The change came quickly; In less than 7
years the company lost half of is
revenue.

21. 3-D Metal Desktop
Printing
• Breakthrough: The technology can create
lighter, stronger parts, and complex shapes
that aren’t possible with conventional metal
fabrication methods. It can also provide more
precise control of the microstructure of
metals. (In 2017, researchers from
the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
announced they had developed a 3-D-printing
method for creating stainless-steel parts twice
as strong as traditionally made ones.)
• Why It Matters: The ability to make large and
complex metal objects on demand could
transform manufacturing.
• Key Players: Markforged, Desktop Metal, GE
• Availability: Now

The Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging
Technologies, 2017 focuses on three emerging
technology mega-trends:
• Artificial intelligence (AI) everywhere,
• Transparently immersive experiences
• Digital platforms
“Organizations will continue to be faced with
rapidly accelerating technology innovation that
will profoundly impact the way they deal with
their workforces, customers and partners,”

57. DREI TRENDS… 2017
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Everywhere
“AI, IoT and other emerging technologies are combined with economic
trends like the sharing economy, we truly see different business designs
that profoundly disrupt the market.”
Transparently Immersive Experiences
Technology is introducing transparency between people, businesses and
things. As technology evolves to be more adaptive, contextual and fluid, it
will become more human-centric. Besides AR, companies should look to
digital workspaces, connected homes, virtual reality and 4D printing in this
realm.
Digital Platforms
Enterprises are still deciding how to navigate this technology, but the lack
of proven use cases have created concerns about the viability of the
technology. Long-term, Gartner believes this technology will lead to a
reformation of whole industries.

1. Customer Self-Service: Customer-facing physical solutions such as kiosks, interactive digital signage,
and self-checkout.
2. AI-Assisted Robotic Process Automation: Automating organizational workflows and processes
using software bots
3. Industrial Robots: Physical robots that execute tasks in manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and
similar verticals with heavy, industrial-scale workloads. The Internet of Things, improved software and
algorithms, data analytics, and advanced electronics have contributed to a wider array of form factors,
ability to perform in semi- and unstructured environments, and the “intelligence” to learn and operate
autonomously. A rising sub-category is collaborative robots (cobots), working safely alongside humans.
4. Retail and Warehouse Robots: Physical robots with autonomous movement capabilities used in
retailing and/or warehousing
5. Virtual Assistants: Personal digital concierges that know users and their data and are discerning
enough to interpret their needs and make decisions on their behalf.
6. Sensory AI: Improving computers ability to identify, “understand,” and even express human sensory
faculties and emotions via image and video analysis, facial recognition, speech analytics, and/or text
analytics.

68. 5G & IoT: GEGEN DAS Nagel-Schreckenberg MODELL
The theoretical model formulated in 1992 by physicists Kai
Nagel and Michael Schreckenberg for the simulation of road
traffic explained for the first time the reasons for a “phantom
traffic jam” as a result of over-reaction when braking. If a car
is driving slower than the vehicle behind it, the latter has to
reduce its speed. In a chain reaction, all cars following behind
brake one after the other, until one car has to stop entirely,
and a traffic jam forms. The one who caused the congestion
in the first place is generally completely unaware of this.
This kind of congestion “out of nowhere” can be avoided by
maintaining a constant distance and steady speed. This is
enabled through so-called platooning. Piloted vehicles with
automatic braking systems can use direct car-to-car
communication to react simultaneously and – despite the
short distances between then – drive safely and efficiently
Fast data flow, no delays. This needs the new 5G mobile communication standard.
For Audi, it opens the door for fully networked driving, which will make traffic safer, more
convenient and more efficient.

136. 5 Aktivitäten zu AI:
• 1. Scouting AI technology, applications, and partners: Have someone (a team) as “AI sensors” in charge of monitoring new
trends, identifying disruptive technologies, and networking with innovative players
• 2. Experimenting with AI technology and applications: Understand through quick, small AI pilots how to develop or adopt
cognitive technologies to the company’s business and operational models.
• Experiments in the driver’s seat are typically conducted by the company’s AI unit or internal developer teams. In the last few years, Deutsche
Telekom has tested internally three different AI-backed chatbots and virtual assistants to improve the company’s corporate and private
customer services.
• Experiments with others in the driver’s seat involve joining forces with innovative players such as start-ups, research centers, and universities. In
general, such experiments are focused on cutting-edge technologies or applications requiring in-depth expertise and skills that companies do
not have. This is a common strategy among large organizations: Mercedes-Benz entered a partnership with the Computer Science and AI Lab of
MIT; Associated Press collaborated with Automated Insight, a specialized AI firm; Deutsche Telekom partnered with the German Research
Centre for AI, called DFKI.
• Experiments by learning from others are common among companies interested in pioneering AI technology and applications, but too
premature for their industry. Observing others translates into funding ventures or start-ups innovating at the frontier of AI. This is the case at
German insurance company Allianz, which funded Europe’s first global AI equity fund to position itself as a “pioneer in AI investments.”
• 3. Supporting business units in applying AI technology: Build internal capabilities through a specialized network of AI
experts who can support business units in the integration and application of AI tools and solutions (from basic data visualization and
chatbots to the automation of entire processes like claims management). The success of AI applications lies not in the technology per se,
but in the ability of a company to align it with its business and operational models.
• 4. Getting the entire organization to understand AI: The ability to educate the organization on the opportunity to harness
the power of AI.
• 5. Attracting and retaining talent: Address the AI skills gap
