This document summarizes research on the effects of beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB). HMB is a metabolite of the essential amino acid leucine that is found in small amounts naturally. Studies have found that HMB supplementation can increase muscle strength, lean body mass, and aerobic/anaerobic capacity. The mechanisms of these effects include increasing protein synthesis and decreasing protein breakdown through inhibition of the ubiquitin-proteasome system. HMB may also act on the mTOR pathway to increase protein synthesis and provide substrates to support cell membrane integrity. However, the effects of HMB appear to be greater in untrained individuals compared to highly trained athletes.
This document discusses tools and strategies for teaching patients with diabetes. It notes that over 25 million Americans have diabetes and many face challenges like low health literacy. Effective teaching requires assessing the patient's existing knowledge, using visual aids and demonstrations, and addressing different learning styles through verbal, written, and hands-on methods. Teaching should also utilize online resources and social support networks to help patients manage their condition.
This document discusses obesity, its causes and indicators. It notes that obesity occurs when energy intake exceeds energy expenditure over a prolonged period, resulting in excess body fat accumulation. Key causes of obesity include lack of energy balance, sedentary lifestyle, environmental factors like fast food and lack of sidewalks, genetics, hormonal issues, and some medications. Body mass index (BMI), skin folds, waist-hip ratio, and relative weight are common indicators used to diagnose and monitor obesity. Weight management involves prevention of excess weight gain, weight loss through diet, exercise and sometimes medication/surgery, and prevention of weight regain.

How to write a medical original articleElsayed Salih
The document provides guidance on how to write a medical original article for publication. It discusses the key components of an original article including the title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections. It emphasizes that the introduction should clearly outline the objectives and importance of the study. The methods section must provide full details of the patients, materials, study design, and statistical analysis. The results section should objectively present the data without interpretations. Reviewers will evaluate whether the study design, statistical analysis, and conclusions are supported by the results. Overall, the document aims to help authors structure their article according to standards expected by medical journals.
This document provides information on diet counselling for reducing obesity risks. It defines obesity as excessive body fat accumulation of at least 20% higher than ideal weight. Obesity is a serious health issue that increases risks of diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Dietary treatments for obesity include low-calorie diets, meal replacements, very low-calorie diets, and consideration of macronutrient composition, portion size, energy density and satiety. Behavioral changes like eating at set meal times and preparing more home-cooked meals can also help reduce risks of obesity.

Here in this Slide share Dr. Laxmi Shrikhande shares some important points about Weight management in Menopause.
Obesity is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher and increases health risks like diabetes and heart disease. Dietary factors that contribute to obesity include foods high in sugar, saturated/trans fats, alcohol, and low fruits/veggies. A sedentary lifestyle and genetics also increase obesity risk. To combat obesity, one should focus on a diet of fruits, veggies, and healthy fats, exercise regularly through activities like walking, and get adequate sleep each night.
One of the best and latest presentations on obesity, sibutramine, orlistate, topimirate, phenteramine, xenical, serotonin reuptake inhibitor, lipase , pancreatic lipase inhibitor,
lipids, fats, major leg pullers/constraints in obesity management. Next Lipitor will also be from metabolic therapy.
This document discusses neonatal and infant nutrition. It covers:
1. The importance of fetal and breastfeeding nutrition for short and long-term health outcomes. Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition as well as protection from diseases for both infant and mother.
2. Guidelines for assessing adequate breastfeeding including weight gain patterns, number of wet diapers, stool frequency and appearance. Supplements like vitamin K may be needed for breastfed infants.
3. Risks of intrauterine growth restriction including hypoglycemia, necrotizing enterocolitis and problems of prematurity. Guidelines are provided for feeding preterm or growth restricted infants to minimize risks like NEC.
Obesity is defined as excessive accumulation of body fat that occurs when caloric intake exceeds physiological needs. It can be caused by genetic, behavioral, social, and medical factors. Obesity is assessed by measuring body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, and skin fold thickness. A BMI over 30 indicates obesity and is associated with increased risk of health complications like hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Obesity management involves dietary changes like reducing carbohydrate and fat intake while increasing protein and fiber, regular exercise, psychological counseling, medication, and sometimes surgery.
1) Dar nomes significativos às variáveis, métodos e classes;
2) Manter métodos pequenos e focados em uma única tarefa;
3) Escrever código de forma limpa e legível através da formatação e organização;
