Cognitive computing, big data, and statistical analytics represent new frontiers for innovation that will transform organizations. These emerging technologies rely on analyzing vast amounts of structured and unstructured data using powerful computers and sophisticated algorithms to generate novel insights. Realizing their full potential will require integrating data and analytics from hundreds or thousands of diverse sources to reduce uncertainty and construct high-value context. This represents a strategic challenge for organizations to create an integrated view of information from all available data channels.

Slides from my ICON UK 2016 session. Session abstract:
Modernization of IBM Notes applications is a topic that is on the map for many IBM customers. With one of my customers, a Norwegian manufacturing company, we started a project last year to modernize a business critical Notes application. We decided early on to keep using Domino in the backend, but switch to AngularJS for the frontend. In the session I'll talk about how we approached the project and got to a working prototype. Topics I will cover include responsibilities, development workflow, technical setup and issues we ran into. I'll explain the architecture that we are using, the components involved and how we integrated with IBM Connections and Infor. Keywords for this session: AngularJS, Nginx, REST, IBM Domino, Connections, Infor M3 and Infor Document Management.
The document discusses lifelong learning and skill enhancement. It defines lifelong learning as the voluntary pursuit of knowledge for personal or professional reasons. Skills can be classified as general or specific, and include abilities like time management, teamwork, and self-motivation. The most important life skill is the ability to learn. Learning helps to empower people and promote health. Suggestions to enhance skills include setting challenging targets, improving teacher skills, and helping families and communities support skill development from an early age.

DEV-1129 How Watson, Bluemix, Cloudant, and XPages Can Work Together In A Rea...Frank van der Linden
The role of a human resources employee can be hard work when it comes to filtering hundreds or thousands of job applications. Often, the cover letters are submitted in unstructured formats, making data organization and identification of interesting job applications difficult. In this session, we will share a look behind the scenes of the award-winning HR Assistant application, which uses a combination of IBM Bluemix, Watson and a Cloudant database to improve the recruitment process. See how we integrate these different technologies and display the content graphically using XPages, along with how the development progressed and the challenges we faced.
This document discusses cognitive computing capabilities and their potential to change how people live and work. It outlines three areas of cognitive capability: engagement, discovery, and decision. Engagement capabilities allow systems to interact naturally with humans through dialogue. Discovery capabilities help systems find new patterns and insights in data. Decision capabilities allow systems to make evidence-based decisions that evolve over time. The document also notes six forces that will influence adoption rates and five dimensions that will impact future cognitive capabilities. It provides an example of how USAA uses cognitive computing to help military members transition to civilian life by answering their questions.
