Josh – Hi everyone, thank you for joining us in today’s interactive session –Main Challenges Of Remote UAT Testing & How To Solve ThemWe still have people joining, so, we’ll begin the presentation in a few moments.
Wait!
Hi All and thanks for joining.
We are excited for today’s webinar.
Today I’m joined by – Panaya’s Customer Education Manager – Yoni Hubermann
Yoni will be presenting the Main Challenges Of Remote UAT Testing & How To Solve Them.
I am Josh and I’ll be your moderator for today’s session.
Before we get started, I’d like to address some housekeeping rules -
We have a packed audience, so, all lines are muted for optimal sound quality
We will be including Q&A during this webinar, so feel free to submit questions in the Q&A box and we shall answer them at the end of the webinar if we have time.
Please note that this session is being recorded. A link to the recording will be sent in a follow-up email.
We will run a couple short polls during this webinar, you can answer by simply selecting the relevant answer.
Josh : OK, lets get straight to it –
Yoni - Thank you Josh!
Hi everyone, my name is Yoni Hubermann, and I am Panaya’s Customer Education manager. Although the circumstances, I am truly excited being here today with you and I would like to personally thank everyone who was able to join. I am sure many of you are now joining us from home and not from your office.
Let’s talk for a moment about the current situation. These new times bring new challenges. Many of us are in required to stay home which makes things even harder. If you have kids, and they are also with you at home, it could sometime feel impossible to get anything done. In any case, we are finding ourselves exploring a new territory – how to work from home and still be productive? How to keep the team on track and still deliver on time, despite the situation.
Not all of us are experienced with working from home.Teams are very much used to working from their office, where they can communicate between them, ask questions, get briefed about what is the expectation are for the coming day/week/month.
Especially when it comes to testing, much more details are required by each persona, to be able to effectively continue the project as planned, with both development and testing activities being on tack.
Many test managers, project managers, testers and QA engineers are uncertain about what is expected of them? Are current projects put on hold? Are we continuing according to plan?
I think the image you see on the screen right now really speaks for itself.
This is new York today. Can you imagine? It seems like the world actually stopped. But many large organizations and companies, cannot really stop and some even need to increase productivity at times like these.Especially QA and Testing teams – just cannot simply stop altogether. New enhancement are still needed and the business still has IT and other requirements from their ERP platforms or any other software or application being used by both employees and their customers. So in spite of the situation we are in, the go live date stays on track and UAT sign-offs cannot be delayed.
But that does not have to be the case.
Testing teams and IT teams who are already working with Panaya, have been enjoying the benefit of testing from home, or anywhere for that matter, and still being able to fully execute UAT and regression tests and tests cycles with no interruptions or bottlenecks. That’s thanks to Panaya’s state of the art test execution and management platform that works well for any type of application or software that requires testing.
You may not be aware of it, but testing teams who are already using Panaya to execute test activities, are monitoring activities in real time and communicating effectively by using our all-in-one testing and defect management platform.
Just in the last 24 Hours X test steps were executed using Panaya
In the last 7 and 14 days, the numbers are higher, showing that it is completely possible to execute and manage UAT and regression cycels, even when working remotely, from anywhere.
In fact, we did not wait for the current WFH situation to understand what were the main issues with big testing campaigns in the ‘normal life’. We have been solving challenges associated with collaboration, shared knowledge and information, automatic workflows for business process testing and much more. On the screen right now is only a few of our customers who are already enjoying complete remote UAT testing today.
So in this session we are going to take a look at three main areas of challenges that testers, UAT managers, QA managers and project managers are facing.
We will take a look into each of these challenges and show you ways to solve them with a modern testing tool such as panaya.
In today’s situation we need to be on top of things, more than ever before. You may find yourself chasing the team for updates, seeking testers response as to where things stand. Some of us are using emails, chats, shared excel documents and zoom session of the entire QA team. These may be helpful but are not providing the complete picture and definitely not in real-time.
Obviously if your testers are in a different time zone that makes it harder to communicate effectively especially when you need to know how many test activities were completed.
The second main challenge is about collaborating effectively.
Nowadays, challenges that we already had before, still remain and become even more challenging.Testers do not know what business processes to test, what system can be used for testing, and what values are already loaded into the system for QA purposes.
Testers do not know when it is their time to take part in testing. By when are they expected to complete their activities etc.
And for integration testing, even when testers or business users find the information they need, they are missing the information about the previous steps that were completed by other team members.
And our third main challenge for today is about avoiding defect or bugs inflation.
How important is communication between testers and developers? It is very important has it may have great impact on your project progression.
Testers many report multiple issues for the same problem and are polluting the project with duplicates. It is very hard for managers to control the inflation.
In many cases Testers provide unclear explanations and do not include screenshots or ways to reproduce.
When seeking assistance, Developers do not know who reported issues in the first place.
Developers need to be able to immediately notify tester to re-test issues, how can you do that today in an automated way without the need to write an email to anyone?
Before we continue I want to ask you. Are you cooking more often than before? Because I can admit that for me, since we have been advised to stay at home, we are cooking a lot!
But you can do a lot more in the kitchen, other than cooking.
For example – you can create, manage, execute, track and monitor global UAT testing that involved multiple testers from various locations across the globe.
With Panaya, it doesn’t matter where testers and business users are located and what is their time zone. As a test, QA or project manager, you always have real time data about the progression of your test activities. You always know how many test activities were completed and how many steps were performed.
You always know if any tests have failed and are blocking the team from progressing.
We provide actual actionable insights and you can always frill down to the details. If there any unassigned steps, you can immediately assign them, if there are open defect with no status change for more than 2 weeks, you will know how it is impacting the progress of your cycles.
This is an example of how a business process test looks like in Panaya.
Panaya tests provide a sequence of activities (what we call steps) including different users for each step from different departments, locations, etc.
I have heared of QA team getting together in zoom or skype, trying to see where they stand, who did what and where are the bottlenecks. In panaya, the test has all the information and is accessible anywhere, anytime. If you are used to getting all users for UAT testing in one week, in the same room, with Panaya each person in your team can run their activities from anywhere. And you will be able to look at the complete test evidence and results.
Testers know what to test, on what system, and what values to use, when they are expected to test, and by when they are expected to finish their test activities.
Testers always know who tested what before them, and can communicate or ask questions through the Panaya application. No need for any external messaging or email software.
Throughout each test, panaya takes care of all email communications automatically. Users will get email messaging telling them what is expected with a direct link to all the details required to complete the activity.
Panaya has a unique test recorder that captures anything and everything performed in SAP/Oracle/Salesforce or any other application so all types of business processes can be captures. The evidence you will get is detailed down to every click and key stroke. We provide 2 screenshots for each mouse click or key stroke so you always see what happens before, or after the action is done. The evidence can be exported to word or pdf and provides all input values used and expected results.
Through the recorder, testers and business users can seamlessly report defects. The screenshot will be automatically captures and an email will be sent to the developer or the development manager with a link to see all details and steps to reproduce.
The defect is automatically populated with the test and steps details and you can even review its influence on other steps. This is what we call in panaya – System wide defects. The ability to recognize each defect influence on all test activities in the project and not only the original defect. So if a user reports an issue with transaction ME21N I can actually block all other tests using this transaction so testers don’t run redundant testing. Once the original defect is resolved, I can release all other impacted test activities for testing.
At any point in time, you can review how many issues are currently reported, how many have been resolved and whether or not they are blocking the progression.
Before we proceed to some Q&A I wanted to kind of summarize what can be done with Panaya.
The entire flow of business process testing can be performed within panaya. Starting with test creating. Anyone can create tests with panaya. The UI is easy and intuitive and with just a few clicks your tests are ready.
If you want you can import from any existing documents that you have such as excel or word and you can even let us create your project for you. Yes, with Panaya Test Box you can simply drop your existing tests in word or PDF and we will create all activities in panaya for you within 48 hours, included in your subscription.
Then test can be launched and ready to test, all users will get email to begin testing and will be able to run the tests using the panaya recorder. During testing, tester report the results and open or close defects. The entire flow is covered with email notification, dashboards and reports and is of course accessible from anywhere, including your home kitchen.
Now its time for your questions! So I will hand it back to Josh.
