Lecture-1- Compressor and its Types.pptWaqasRahman10
1. A compressor increases the mass flow rate of air through a jet engine by compressing the ingested air and feeding it to the combustion chamber. It works by imparting kinetic energy to the air through rotating blades, then converting this to increased static pressure.
2. The two main types of compressors are centrifugal and axial flow. Centrifugal compressors force air outward radially from the center, while axial flow compressors maintain air flow parallel to the compressor shaft.
3. Key factors that affect compressor performance include aerofoil design, blade angles, clearance between blades and casing, and stability of operation over a range of conditions to avoid stall or surge. Higher pressure ratios, mass flow rates,

This document summarizes the root blower, a type of positive displacement supercharger. It discusses the history, construction, working, types (twin lobe and three lobe), advantages, and disadvantages. Root blowers work by using rotating lobes to trap air and transport it from an intake to exhaust port. While they can deliver large air flows, they also experience more vibration and noise than other supercharger types. Root blowers are commonly used in automobiles and diesel engines where a large volume of air needs to be moved with minimal pressure increase.
This document discusses different types of blow molding processes used to make hollow plastic parts. It describes injection blow molding, stretch blow molding, and extrusion blow molding. Injection blow molding uses preforms made via injection molding and is used for small, high-volume products. Stretch blow molding also uses preforms but stretches them using a core rod and is used for bottles and jars. Extrusion blow molding extrudes a hollow plastic tube called a parison then air is pumped in to shape it in a mold, used for containers. The document outlines design considerations, advantages, disadvantages, applications, and examples of blow molding processes and products.

Centrifugal compressor: Casing and inlet. ImpellersYashChanne2
1. A centrifugal compressor uses radial acceleration from an impeller to compress gas, with multiple stages providing greater compression. Air passing through the impeller gains velocity and pressure before entering the diffuser.
2. The diffuser converts the velocity into pressure as the air slows down. Multiple components including the impeller and diffuser work together to increase the pressure.
3. Centrifugal compressors come in single stage for lower compression ratios up to 3:1, and multistage versions for higher compression using backward leaning blades for better efficiency. They are used widely in industries like oil/gas, food processing, and refrigeration.

Surge is a phenomenon seen in gas turbine engines where there is a sudden decrease in the supply pressure to the compressor inlet. This causes air to flow in the reverse direction through the compressor, creating vibrations throughout the engine. Surge can be generated by diffuser vanes retarding the airflow or rotating stall causing breakdowns of the air flow between compressor blades. Repeated surging can damage components like rotor seals, bearings, and the compressor driver through high vibrations and temperature increases. Anti-surge systems aim to prevent surge by maintaining a minimum air flow through the compressor.

John Crane gas seals provide maximum reliability through ensuring a clean and dry seal environment. Key factors include filtering the gas to 1 micron, using coalescing filters to remove liquids, heating the gas above hydrate and liquid formation points, and using an SEPro system to provide heated filtered gas to the seals during shutdown periods. It is also important to properly monitor the outer barrier seal, ensure adequate separation from bearing oil, and have the OEM test the job seal system to validate performance matches duty conditions.
A gasket fills the space between mating surfaces to prevent leakage when under compression. Gasket material allows for less precise fits between machine parts by filling irregularities. Gaskets are commonly cut from sheet materials and can be non-metallic, semi-metallic, or metallic depending on the application and standards.

The internal combustion engine was developed over many decades through contributions from numerous scientists and engineers. George Brayton created the first safe and practical oil engine in 1873. Nikolaus Otto patented the first four-stroke engine in 1876. Gottlieb Daimler invented the prototype of the modern gasoline engine in 1885. Various other inventors contributed improvements to internal combustion engines throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, including the first commercial liquid-fueled engine by George Brayton in 1872, the compressed charge four-cycle engine by Nikolaus Otto, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1876, and the first compressed charge, compression ignition engine by Rudolf Diesel in 1892.

Various piston head and skirt designs are presented. Pistons can be made of aluminum via casting or forging, with different properties for each. Piston rings are often made of heat-treated nodular cast iron, chromium steel, or molybdenum alloys to provide durability and reduce wear and scuffing. Cylinder liners are centrifugally cast from materials like iron and aluminum alloys to form the inner cylinder surface with properties like wear resistance.
Twisted Tube ® Heat Exchanger Inspection with Eddy CurrentsEddyfi
Heat exchangers are essential to the operation of many systems in various industries, processing plants and electric power generation plants, for example. A unique type of heat exchanger (HX) was introduced several years ago: the Twisted Tube® HX. They offer the highest levels of efficiency, but have always been a challenge for periodic inspections. Until now.
A twisted tube is composed of two straight, circular sections near the tubesheets, separated by a length of helical, oval tube. This helix creates a small, central circular passage along the length of the tube where traditional bobbin probes can be pushed and pulled.
However, standard ECT probes deliver suboptimal performances — detecting, characterizing, and sizing flaws are problematic because of poor signal-to-noise ratios. Flaws on the wall furthest away from the tube’s center (crest) produce much smaller, distorted signals than same-size flaws in the narrow section, closest to the tube’s center (dip). This is because of the liftoff created by the tube’s geometry between its walls and the ECT probe. This amount of liftoff translates into a lower probability of detection and less accurate sizing.

teren Jahreszeit. Der ungedämmte Spei-
cher nimmt zudem Wärme oder Kühle des
umgebenen Erdreichs auf. Die Wärme-
pumpe „hebt“ die Temperatur dann auf
das fürs Heizen nötige Niveau an. Ange-
trieben wird sie von einem gasbetriebenen
Blockheizkraftwerk (BHKW), dessen Ab-
wärme ebenfalls zum Heizen genutzt wird.
Der durch das BHKW erzeugte Strom so-
wie der Sonnenstrom einer Fotovoltaikan-
lage werden vorrangig im Gebäude und für
den Allgemeinstrom der Bewohner selbst
genutzt. Auch E-Bikes und Elektroautos
sollen mit dem selbst erzeugten Strom un-
terwegs sein.
Heizen mit Eis
Der Clou: Ein Teil der Heizwärme stammt
aus Eis, genauer gesagt aus der Kristallisa-
tionsenergie. Sie wird frei, wenn Wasser zu
Eis gefriert.
