Meine neuste Kolumne jetzt auf Deutsch. Besitzen Sie ein iPhone? Mit der nützlichen Siri? Die ist nett – und belauscht Sie gleichzeitig. Oder bin ich einfach paranoid? Lesen Sie selber.
The Côte d’Azur is beautiful in September – even though her beaches suffer from human disrespect. A look back at an otherwise very pleasant stay in Provence.
Quoique…
Summer in the countryside may seem idyllic, but it can be punctuated by drama. Here is an account of a dog’s trials and tribulations in the beautiful Dordogne Valley...

Sometimes the words line up on the page as if by automatism. There follows a relief. These last months, nothing. A few laborious lines, an empty mind. The feeling of being part of a world that turns less and less round, that has become so incomprehensible that to be interested in it is to get lost in it. A world that lacks atrociously of humanity.

"At the supermarket in Provence – Intimate Confessions at the Deli Counter"Sylvie Castagné
The purpose of travelling is, at best, to measure the extent of cultural differences. An exercise mostly practiced during trivial activities, such as shopping at the supermarket.

My newest column in English: Back from vacation, I tidy up before starting work again. As I do so, thoughts about the present, the past and the future come to me.
The document discusses how language and society's imagination have evolved during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several new words related to the pandemic like "Covid-19", "teleworking", and "vaccination center" have been added to dictionaries. The meanings of words like "confinement" have also changed. The anchoring of this new vocabulary reflects the reality that the virus is not going away and will continue to impact lives, though some places are returning to normal activities like open cafes. The document questions what impact the pandemic will really have on society and whether attention on essential workers will remain after the crisis or if society will forget and focus only on returning to pre-pandemic activities.
The post-Covid World doesn't seem so appealing to me anymore. Too similar to the world before. I dream of another world: the "world beyond post-Covid".

Genug, esreicht,basta!Ichhabees satt, dassLeute mich
ausspionieren,meineDatenabschöpfenund damit gutesGeld
verdienen.
Abendessenvor. Wir sitzenmit den Eltern der Freundinam Tisch. Wir
diskutieren:Kapstadt, PortElizabeth, Kimberley, Pretoria...
Mein iPhoneliegt wenige Schritte daneben.
Ressourcenbeitragen;
2. 2) Weder Apple nochirgend jemandem sonstmöchteich sogehorsam – fast
möchte ich sagen «dumm»– meine privaten Daten anvertrauen. Damit«sie»
nochmehr Geld mit mir verdienen... Nope, sotöricht möchteich nicht sein!
… und Airbnb auch!
Ich töricht?Vielleicht doch?Ich habe Apple bereits freiwillig viel gegeben: viel
Geld vonmeinem ersten Computerbiszu meinem neuen iPhone, inklusive
zwei iPads. Ichgab meinen Fingerabdruck an mein iPhone, meine
biometrischenDaten an dasnächste.
Undmeldemichab, immer
öfter. Undes fühlt sich gut an. Tatsächlich habe ich in zwei Wochen sechs
gute Bücher gelesen. Da hat mir garantiert niemandüber die Schulter
geschautund mitgelesen.
