bergiges Land. Etwa zwei Drittel des
Staatsgebiet werden von den Alpen

Kalkalpen, die südlichen Kalkalpen und die
Zentralen kristallinen Alpen. Zwischen den
Bergwänden gibt es zahlreiche Täler und
Gletscherseen. Der Hauptteil der Zentralen
kristallinen Alpen sind die Hohen Tauern.
Hier befindet sich der höchste Berg
Österreichs, der Großglockner (3797 m).
Die meisten Gletscherseen gibt es im
Klagenfurter Tal – der Ossiacher See, der
Wörther See, Faaker See usw. Wichtige
Touristenziele sind das Salzkammergut und
das Dachsteinmassiv.
5. • Der wichtigste Fluss Österreichs ist die Donau,
die das Wasser fast vom gesamten Staatsgebiet
abführt. Ihre Länge beträgt ca. 360 km. Die Donau
wird für den Schiffsverkehr benutzt. Die
wichtigsten Zuflüsse sind: Inn, Traun, Salzach,
Enns und Thaya. Eine nicht weniger wichtige Rolle
hat auch der Fluss Ill, ein Zufluss des Rheins. An
diesem Fluss wurden vor nicht allzu langer Zeit
Wasserkraftwerke errichtet. Sie stellen eine große
Energiequellen dar.
• Der bekannteste österreichische See ist der
Bodensee, der allerdings gleichzeitig auch zur
Bundesrepublik Deutschland und zur Schweiz
gehört. des weiteren sind es Neusiedlersee,
Traunsee, Wörther See, Attersee, Hallstätter See,
Mondsee, Wolfgang See usw. Diese Plätze sind bei
den Touristen sehr beliebt. Grosse Bedeutung hat
auch der Fischfang.
7. • An der Spitze des Staates steht der
Bundespräsident. Er übt sein Amt sechs Jahre
lang aus. In Österreich gilt die Verfassung aus
dem Jahre 1920. 1945 wurde der Vertrag über die
immer währende Neutralität Österreichs
festgelegt. Das Parlament hat zwei Kammern. Es
ist der Nationalrat und der Bundesrat. Die
Abgeordneten werden für eine Periode von vier
Jahren gewählt. Das Wahlrecht hat jeder
österreichische Bürger ab 18 Jahren.

8. • Österreich ist ein wirtschaftliches entwickeltes
Land. In der Landwirtschaft arbeiten nur wenige
Bewohner (etwa ein Zehntel), dennoch gelingt es,
die Forderungen des Binnenmarktes zu
befriedigen. Die fruchtbarsten Gebiete liegen im
Flussgebiet der Donau und der Niederung im
Osten. Es werden hier Kartoffeln, Zuckerrüben,
Wein Obst, Gemüse, Getreide (Weizen, Gerste,
Korn, Hafer) und Mais angebaut. Die Viehhaltung
überwiegt in den mittleren Teilen Österreichs.
Hier werden Rinder gezüchtet. Österreich ist
weltberühmt durch seine qualitativ hochwertige
Milch und weitere Milchprodukte (Butter und
