My first skiing trip was a short one. I’m
Norwegian, and the saying goes that Nor-
wegians are born with skis on their feet.
In my case those skis never arrived. My
boyfriend wanted to take me skiing and I
convinced myself I was good at it. I looked
like I knew what I was doing, I bought all ZOLA JESUS
the equipment. But it was the hardest
thing ever. I quit after ten meters and fell

Is Nika Roza Danilova in cahoots with the devil himself? The super-
humanly lightning-fast career of this 22-year-old hunter’s daughter has
certainly been baffling: She grew up in a house in the middle of 50 hec-
tares of woodland in Wisconsin, around which her father used to regu-
larly drape the heads of stags he had recently chopped off with his own
hands, so that the local wildlife would do the furrier’s work for him. At
the age of seven, she already performed operas in public. After high school
she produced three EPs and two albums in her flat, which were adored
