Et si les grandes mutations des années à venir de notre monde ne reposaient pas dans les seules mains de nos responsables politiques ? Et si les dirigeants d’entreprise et les institutions avaient également cette opportunité unique et enviable de repenser nos modes de fonctionnement ? Le besoin de changement dans le monde est immense. Et nous avons les ressources pour agir. Dans les semaines qui viennent, IBM présentera ses propositions pour faire progresser notre planète. The document summarizes security issues in the retail industry, including wardrobing/renting of merchandise, fraudulent returns and refunds, gift card theft, and employee theft. It notes that wardrobing and fraudulent returns cost the retail industry an estimated $31 billion annually according to a University of Florida study. Common refund scams include using fraudulent receipts, returning items without receipts, and returning damaged goods sold cheaply to outlets. The document recommends steps for retailers to reduce theft, such as monitoring employee refunds and customer return histories.
The document discusses techniques for skimming and scanning a text. Skimming allows one to get the overall sense or gist of a text quickly, such as deciding if a textbook page is useful. Scanning allows one to find specific information quickly, such as finding a phone number. Both techniques involve reading selectively rather than every word. Key steps for skimming include reading titles, subtitles, first/last sentences of paragraphs and key words. Steps for scanning include moving the eyes quickly across a text and using clues like headings to find specific information.
Products pass through distinct life cycle stages characterized by changing sales, costs, and profits. The four stages are: introduction (low sales, high costs), growth (rising sales and profits), maturity (peak sales, high competition), and decline (falling sales and profits). Strategies must adapt to the challenges of each stage, focusing on creating awareness early, maximizing market share in growth, defending share in maturity, and reducing expenditures in decline. Modifying the product, market, or marketing mix can sometimes prolong the maturity stage.
Skimming involves quickly reading a document to understand its general idea by reading things like the table of contents, opening and closing sentences of paragraphs, and headings. Scanning is also a quick read but to find a specific piece of information by looking for keywords, bold or italicized text, or larger font sizes. Both skimming and scanning can be used to get the overall subject and tone of a long report, find cars within a price range in the classifieds, or locate particular data in an accounting report.
Speed Reading Techniques include grouping phrases and visualizing the concepts – setting the ideas in your mind’s eye.
Skimming is used to quickly identify the main ideas of a text. Skimming is done at a speed three to four times faster than normal reading.
Scanning is searching for key words or ideas.
Scanning involves moving your eyes quickly down the page seeking specific words and phrases.
The document discusses the differences between skimming and scanning when reading comprehension. Scanning involves quickly searching for specific keywords, ideas, or answers. Strategies for scanning include looking for organizational elements like numbers, letters, or words. Skimming allows readers to quickly identify the main ideas of a text at 3-4 times faster than normal reading speed. When there is a large amount of material to read in a limited time, skimming is useful. Strategies for skimming include reading headings, titles, subtitles, illustrations, and the first and last paragraphs/sentences.
Skimming and Scanning to Achieve Inferential ComprehensionUCsanatadharma
This document discusses a study on how well skimming and scanning strategies are implemented in a Basic Reading I class. It collected data through a quantitative questionnaire given to 10 students. The results showed that students implemented skimming and scanning strategies in various ways to gain the main topic and ideas of a text, find specific information, and understand content by reading parts of the text. It was concluded that skimming and scanning strategies helped students achieve inferential comprehension of texts.
Skimming and scanning are speed reading techniques that allow rapid coverage of large amounts of material. Skimming is used to get the main ideas and overall content at about 100 words per minute, involving reading the title, introduction, first paragraph of sections, and last paragraph completely. Scanning is to locate a specific fact or piece of information by rapidly scanning multiple lines at speeds over 1500 words per minute while being willing to skip large sections without reading them fully. Both techniques save time over reading an entire document carefully.
This document discusses reading techniques for skimming and scanning. It defines skimming as quickly identifying the main idea by reading titles and headings. Scanning is identifying specific details or data the reader already knows they need by focusing only on the most relevant information. Examples are given of when to use each technique. The benefits of ICTs in business are also discussed, such as facilitating communication through tools like email and video conferencing.

A way to more diversity in cultural institutions: OutreachIvana Scharf
The more cultural institutions deal with their transformation into a diverse organisation, the more important outreach becomes. What understanding of diversity do cultural institutions have? How is outreach related to this? How can outreach become anchored in the organisational culture? I answered these questions in my keynote speech at the Kulturinvest Congress 2020 in a German and an English version.
