An approach towards a theoretical understanding of the avatar phenomenon, discussing avatars as 1) visual articulations within public spheres, 2) interactive actants and 3) hybrid actors.
The 3rd Annual Souper Bowl was held this year, with Disco Bowl taking the prize. The event raised $107 for The Daily Bread of Melbourne. Thanks were given to all who attended for making it a wonderful evening.
iT4Communities provides free IT support and volunteering opportunities to charities in need. They have over 5,000 registered IT professional volunteers and have delivered over £2.75 million in IT services to charities since 2002. iT4Communities handles the entire process from defining a charity's IT needs to matching them with a suitable volunteer and providing ongoing support throughout the project. This approach benefits both charities, who receive improved IT resources, and volunteers, who gain experience and skills.
YouthNet is a UK charity established in 1995 that aims to engage, inform and inspire young people through their websites TheSite.org and do-it.org.uk. Do-it.org.uk is the UK's largest volunteering database that allows users to search over 75,000 volunteering opportunities by location, interests or other filters and apply online. Volunteers receive confirmation of their application and the organization receives their details. Do-it works with over 450 organizations and has additional features like alerts, syndication and an employee volunteering program.
How we built our new crowdfunding for social good community Yimby.com using lean startup and agile principles, and how we're growing our audience using growth hacking tactics and constantly testing and learning, even with a small team.
Form and balance in visual art refers to the relationship between compositional elements and achieving symmetry or asymmetry. Lines can be straight, curved, thick, thin, creating different visual effects. Shapes are created when lines enclose a space and can be geometric or biomorphic, conveying different meanings. Light emphasizes shapes and colors through qualities like direction, warmth, and contrast. Color defines objects, communicates feelings, and varies in perception depending on the viewer. Texture describes surface characteristics and is associated with both touch and sight.
Urban actions require an active strategy that provokes reactions through simple elements, potentially leading to architecture. They do not require large budgets, generate complexity, affect citizenship through participation, can interact and adapt to the environment, and have unpredictable consequences.

PHP and the Cloud (phpbenelux conference)Ivo Jansch
The document discusses PHP and cloud computing. It defines cloud computing according to NIST as having five essential characteristics, three service models (Software as a Service, Platform as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service), and four deployment models. Infrastructure as a Service involves offering hardware, storage, networking and computing resources as a service and allows for elastic scalability. The document provides examples of using Rackspace Cloud and Terremark's InfiniCloud for IaaS and discusses designing applications to take advantage of cloud capabilities like horizontal scalability and abstraction.
The document discusses lessons learned from using social media for fundraising efforts during the 2010 Haiti earthquake. It provides examples of how charities used tools like Twitter, Flickr, blogs and maps to share stories and updates from Haiti in a real-time manner. This digital response helped engage communities and increased donations to relief efforts. While charities had no prior experience, they learned through doing and partnering. The document advocates for transparency by showing donors where funds are spent and thanking donors.
The girls are coming! Gender, youth and the new Basque literaturekatixa
This document summarizes the history and development of Basque literature, with a focus on the emergence of women writers. It outlines how Basque literature was limited for many years due to political and linguistic factors. It then discusses how women began publishing works in the 19th-20th centuries but were still underrepresented. The document highlights how since the 2000s, there has been a new generation of women writers born in the 1970s-1980s who are receiving significant attention and critical acclaim for their works across various genres and styles. It notes some perceptions of their literature but also emphasizes the diversity within this new generation of women authors.
The story of how we leveraged a number of agile practices and lived the agile principles to turn a project on the edge of disaster into a resounding success, delivering 46% more functionality than planned.
Since Facebook opened its platform in 2007, we've developed many ways of enabling JustGiving users to fundraise with Facebook apps, and our latest app enables people to donate without leaving Facebook and is optimised for encouraging sharing.
The document is a poem about enjoying life in Colombia's National Coffee Park located in the state of Quindio. The poem expresses appreciation for the smells, sights, and sounds of nature like the morning scent, sunrise, and mountains. It finds beauty in small daily pleasures like the first sip of coffee and kissing one's partner. It acknowledges that time passes quickly but says life is beautiful when shared with loved ones, until the end.
Hivos and Kennisland co-operate in organizing the Wicked Series. In this series the objective is to learn more about the complex dynamics of wicked problems by generating new insights derived from innovatives strategies and approaches that are currently deployed and experimented with in the context of wicked problems.
The Wicked Notes are a direct knowledge product of the Wicked Series and reflect on the ideas and findings generated by the members of this new network during the series.
The Wicked Notes will eventually be part of a Wicked Publication, co-created by Hivos, Kennisland and the Wicked-members to share insights and ideas on the dynamics of wicked problems.

The girls decided to have a night out for Christmas. They planned to meet at the new Italian restaurant in town at 7pm on Christmas Eve before doing some last minute shopping at the mall. The friends were looking forward to spending quality time together without any kids or partners to distract them during the busy holiday season.
