It is impossible to separate the human factors from software engineering expertise during software development, because software is developed by people and for people. The intangible nature of software has made it a difficult product to successfully create, and an examination of the many reasons for major software system failures show that the reasons for failures eventually come down to human issues. Software developers, immersed as they are in the technological aspect of the product, can quickly learn lessons from technological failures and readily come up with solutions to avoid them in the future, yet they do not learn lessons from human aspects in software engineering. Dealing with human errors is much more difficult for developers and often this aspect is overlooked in the evaluation process as developers move on to issues that they are more comfortable solving. A major reason for this oversight is that software psychology (the softer side) has not developed as extensively

Communications Management in Scrum Projects Vered Holzmann and Ilanit Panizel Faculty of Management of Technology, Holon institute of Technology ‐ HIT, Holon, Israel [email protected][email protected] Abstract: The last decade is characterized, in many IT companies, by changing the system development life cycle methodology from the classical waterfall or prototype methods to the agile methodology of development. The agile methodology, developed in the beginning of 2000's, encourages the development of working software within a defined framework, while accepting changes and keeping the customer involved during the whole project. The present paper examines the relationship between the project management‐customer's communication and the project success. The agile software development methodology was introduced in February 2001, when the Agile Manifesto was conceived, based on four values: (1) Individuals and interactions over processes and tools; (2) Working software over comprehensive documentation; (3) Customer collaboration over contract negotiation; and (4) Responding to change over following a plan. The scrum model for developing software applies the agile values and methodology while presenting a framework, terminology, roles and ceremonies to perform successful projects. The core roles include the development team, the scrum master, and the product owner who represents the customer and the users. Effective communication with the various stakeholders in a scrum project, aimed to develop a new product or software, is essential. The scrum method defines a series of sprints, of two to four weeks, in which the team performs the tasks to be completed. The current paper presents a quantitative research, where 61 managers and customers of IT scrum projects, answered a reliable questionnaire. The study investigated the perceived success of agile projects as measured by meeting schedule, budget and performance requirements, as well as customer satisfaction and long term achievements such as business objectives and development of core competencies. Findings reveal that effective communication is a dominant factor in a success scrum project. Furthermore, the communications with the customer was characterized by the following items: face‐to‐face conversations, telephone and email correspondences, and accepting changes following conversations with the customer. Analysis of the virtual communication tools effectiveness shows that although the project team members are satisfied with the use of these communication media tools, the tools are usually not evaluated on an economical basis but rather based on a convenience of use. The objectives of this study was to bring out the understanding of the concept of agile IT project management; what it is and what it is not. It was also aimed at comparing the pros and cons of both agile and traditional methods of IT project management in a typical industry setting; the challenges of going purely agile, and so on. It is purely a review of literature of peer reviewed papers sourced mainly from Google Scholar. It was revealed that agile outweigh the traditional methods in terms of benefits, but its implementation poses a lot of challenges due to a number of issues, paramount among them being organizational culture and empowerment of the project team. This has resulted in a number of industries sticking to the traditional methods despite the overwhelming benefits of agile. In another school of thought, the combination of the two paradigms is the way forward.

Software engineering has been transformed in recent years by understanding the interaction with customers and the target context as an ongoing learning process. Responsiveness to change and user-centered design have been the consequences. In a similar way, knowledge and ontology engineering are undergoing fundamental changes to acknowledge the fact that they are part of a collective knowledge maturing process. We explore three examples: (i) social media based competence management in career guidance, (ii) ontology-centered reflection in multi-professional environments in palliative care, and (iii) aligning individual mindlines in pratice networks of General Practitioners. Based on these, we extract four levels of designing for knowledge maturing and associated technical implementations. This shows that future technology support should especially target facilitation of self-organized, but tool-mediated knowledge development processes, where, e.g., workplace learning analytics can play a prominent role

Software development field is becoming more productive day by day with the wonderful model name Agile. Agile is the main focus of research now a days. It is because of its abilities of handling changes in efficient way through iterative and incremental practices. Although it became famous because of its capabilities still there are some issues in it, which is ignorance of usability engineering in different phases of agile that is an important aspect to understand the software. Usability has deep roots in software quality and is a core construct of HCI. To develop interactive and usable systems there is a need of such a model which can integrate HCI with Agile. To address this issue. To solve this issue we have proposed a model which will work with both User Centered (main focus of HCI) and Agile by assembling different practices from both fields which will result useable products. It will enhance software life with user satisfaction by giving them running software with usability.

um ersten Mal hat Apple Schweiz zur Apple Developer Stage eingeladen – und Zühlke war dabei. Als einer von 8 ausgewählten Partnern von Apple haben wir dem interessierten Publikum unsere Story zur Entwicklung von Enterprise Apps vorgestellt. Auch wenn es um die Entwicklung von Enterprise Apps geht, müssen viele funktionale und nicht funktionale Anforderungen berücksichtigt werden. Natürlich ist dabei vor allem auch das User Interface einer Inhouse-App sehr wichtig. Die Mitarbeiter eines Unternehmens bringen schliesslich ihre Erfahrungen mit privat genutzten Apps mit und haben dementsprechend auch Erwartungen an Enterprise Apps. Für ein beeindruckendes Nutzungserlebnis (User Experience) darf jedoch nicht nur Wert auf ein modernes und ästhetisches User Interface gelegt werden. Insbesondere die „inneren Werte“ einer App spielen eine grosse Rolle für eine „End-to-End User Experience“. Vergleichen wir dies mit einer hochwertigen Armbanduhr am Beispiel einer IWC Portugieser. Mit Sicherheit bietet dieses entwickelte Produkt ein sehr schönes User Interface: das Zifferblatt ist bis ins Detail präzise gestaltet, die Funktionen der Uhr einfach zu erkennen und abzulesen. Jedoch wird kaum jemand nur aufgrund optischer Eindrücke eine hochwertige Armbanduhr kaufen. Die Emotionalität einer IWC ergibt sich schliesslich aus der Kombination mit den inneren Werten der Uhr. Hier geht es um mechanische Raffinesse, Genauigkeit, Verlässlichkeit, Effizienz und schliesslich das perfekte Zusammenspiel aller Komponenten. Anhand dieses Beispiels kann eine Analogie zur App-Entwicklung hergestellt werden. Für viele Benutzer von Smartphones ist die verwendete Hardware in Kombination mit begeisternden Apps ebenfalls ein hochgradig emotionales Produkt. Immer wieder zeigt sich in Umfragen, wie gross daher die Angst vor dem Verlust des mobilen Geräts ist. Auf dem Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona wurde dazu die Wortkreation „Nomophobie“ aufgeschnappt. Dieses „Krankheitsbild“ beschreibt die Angst ohne mobiles Gerät auskommen zu müssen (No-Mobile-Phobie). Sehr viele Unternehmen haben erste Apps auf den Markt gebracht und dabei wertvolle Erfahrungen gesammelt. Dabei standen meist erste Gehversuche mit B2C-Apps im Vordergrund. Die meisten Applikationen sind stark auf den Client fokussiert und sind dementsprechend gar nicht oder nur wenig mit Back-End Systemen integriert. Mit Enterprise Apps, darunter zum Beispiel Management Informationssysteme, CRM oder ERP-Apps, ist eine Verzahnung der Apps mit bestehender Infrastruktur jedoch zwingend erforderlich. Business Apps greifen häufig auf Geschäftsdaten im Backend zu und müssen existierende Geschäftsprozesse unterstützen.
