Welcome to final presentation of the Geoinformation Lab. David, Fabian Dominik and me were supervising
this fantastic lab where we can use cutting-edge technolgoies to make geoinformation fun , interesting and intuitive.
I’t’s our second round working with Mixed Reality and we are honored having again partners from the industry which have collaborated with us this semester.
Hereby we want to welcome especially Florian Kaiser form Wälli AG, Losinger-Marazzi and Stefan Arrizona form Esri R&D, and a warm welcome to all other people in audience from administration, private industry and colleguas of our presenters.
Therefore our GIS Lab tries to deal with real-problem opportunities but also with visions.
This year various visionaires visiting ETH this year to elaborate on how technology is shaping our future.
Dangermond, Nadella
Jack stands for GIS
GIS tries to
Understanding our World with Data by
Gathering data
Analyse data
Visualise geoinformation
Nadella pointed out three main trends which drives Microsoft: Artificial Intelligence, Human computer Interaction and Mixed Reality
Mixed Reality augments our World by embedding data and computing to nature by
Gathering geoinformation
Developing interactions
Deploying smart Holograms
Through GIS the nature gets much better modelled, Through MR Computing gets much more natural
--------------------------------------------------------------
GIS is collecting, analysing and modeliung real world data for understandy the world we live in.
HCI and mixed reality is to blend the power of computing with the real world.
Distributed computing: Computing is embedded in the real world
The defining trends he proclaimed beside AI, Human Computer Interaction and Mixed Realiy.
(Computing gets much more natural)
And natural computing and mixed realtiy is very exciting for Communicating Opendata and Urban Plannung in immersive way.
is Computing Geographical Information
Jack Dangermond focused on the importance of Urban Plannung
Nadelle synthesied crrently three main trends
We try enabling student to combine both, the approach of projecting reaility with geoiinframtion and embedding virtuality back in nature
Thta was the overacrhing goal of the GIS Lab.
But Fabian, Explain us the secret behind this lab!
In this Sept 6 brave students from Geomatics and Datascience started with the GIS Lab
In a hackathon like session, our industry partners Esri RnD, Losinger Marazzi and the Wälli AG presented interesting uses cases and shared challanges they face day to day
Students split up in groups to create ideas and work on the input provided
We had trainings on Pitching, introduction to versioning and git hub and developing for HoloLens
Then a period of lots of coding, testing and bugfixing started
And now we are here today!
