This document outlines a research study on employee job satisfaction. The researcher will use a mixed methods approach including a 5 question survey to understand what factors influence employees to stay at their jobs. The survey will collect both quantitative data in the form of ratings of satisfaction, recognition, and feedback, as well as qualitative data from open-ended questions about satisfaction levels and job preferences. The researcher hopes to provide organizations with insights into improving employee job satisfaction.

3. TOPIC: EMPLOYEE JOB SATISFACTION
THIS AREA OF DISCUSSION FOCUSES ON A KEY FACTOR THAT IS NEEDED FOR ORGANIZATIONAL SUCCESS.
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
• IN RECENT TIMES, ORGANIZATIONS HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT JOB SATISFACTION PLAYS A VITAL ROLE
IN EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE.
• THE AMOUNT OF DEDICATION THAT AN EMPLOYEE WILL GIVE DEPENDS ON THE LEVEL OF MOTIVATION
THAT THE ORGANIZATION HAS TO OFFER.
• DETERMINING HOW TO INCREASE EMPLOYEE JOB SATISFACTION HAS BEEN AN UPHILL BATTLE, WITH THE
OPPORTUNITY TO HIT ITS PEAK BY GETTING INTO THE MINDS OF EMPLOYEES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT
DRIVES EMPLOYEE JOB SATISFACTION.
5. RESEARCH STRATEGY
• THE MIXED METHODS RESEARCH STRATEGY IS ONE THAT I WILL USE TO CONDUCT THE INFORMATION
THAT WILL BE DOCUMENTED FOR THE PREFERRED OUTCOME.
7. RESEARCH RATIONALE
• I CHOSE THE MIXED METHOD APPROACH BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THE FEEDBACK THAT IS REQUIRED.
THE PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO DISCUSS THEIR HONEST OPINIONS.
• “MIXED METHODS IDEALLY INCLUDE THE BENEFITS OF BOTH QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE DATA”,
(HUGHES, 2016)
• THE QUALITATIVE ASPECT OF THE RESEARCH INCLUDES OBSERVATIONAL OR INTERVIEW DATA.
• THE QUANTITATIVE ASPECT OF THE RESEARCH INCLUDES NUMERICAL DATA.
8. RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
• THE MIXED METHODS RESEARCH DATA WILL BE CONDUCTED USING A SURVEY THAT ASK SPECIFIC
QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO EMPLOYEE JOB SATISFACTION.
• THIS INSTRUMENT WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE OF THE STRUCTURE IT HOLDS FOR OBTAINING NUMERICAL
AND OBSERVATIONAL DATA.
9. THE 5 QUESTION SURVEY

YOU ARE EMPLOYED? YES OR NO
2. HOW OFTEN DOES UPPER MANAGEMENT RECOGNIZE THE EFFORTS THAT YOU PUT FORTH? NEVER,
SELDOM, OFTEN, ALWAYS
3. IS THE FEEDBACK RECEIVED FROM UPPER MANAGEMENT HELPFUL? YES OR NO
4. IF YOU ARE SATISFIED, WHY? IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED, WHY NOT LEAVE?
5. IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN RECEIVING A RAISE FROM YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER OR TAKING
YOUR DREAM JOB AT YOUR CURRENT SALARY, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE? WHY?

• 3 OUT OF 5 PARTICIPANTS SAID THAT FEEDBACK RECEIVED WAS NOT HELPFUL
13. DATA ANALYSIS CONT.
4. IF YOU ARE SATISFIED, WHY? IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED, WHY NOT LEAVE?
• ALL PARTICIPANTS WERE CURRENTLY NOT SATISFIED WITH THEIR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT, BUT WERE CONTENT

WITH THEIR CURRENT SALARY.
• 2 OUT OF 5 PARTICIPANTS SAID THAT THEY WOULD TAKE A RAISE AT THEIR CURRENT PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT.
After obtaining the responses from the participants, It was time to analyze the results. The qualitative data came from questions 4 & 5. the quantitative data came from questions 1-3.
Sample Population
The sample population was derived of those in the lower spectrum of the middle class that usually work from paycheck to paycheck.
Ethical Considerations
Communication is very important when it comes to employee job satisfaction. This is because employees need to feel included in the day to day function of their working environment. Employees seek to make their lives less stressful while trying to complete their job requirements. It is the organization’s responsibility to make sure that stress is limited in the workplace. Although, cash incentives are favored they do not create a lasting effect. “Sure, a raise or benefits will probably improve employee contentment, at least temporarily, but small, inexpensive changes can have a long-term impact”, (Shetrone, 2011).
Survey Interpretation
The quick response answers (questions 1-3) gave insight to the interaction between the participants and their employers. The open-ended answers (questions 4 &5) gave insight to the key strengths that organizations hold in keeping employees content regardless of satisfaction.
