A SUITCASE THAT
BRINGS YOU TO
THE GATE
In Chicago, a w heeled suitcase, called
Modobag, w as invented that brings
passengers to the gate. The Modobag
w ith its built-in motor w ould bring
travellers to the gate three times faster
than on foot. Developer Kevin O'Donnell
came up w ith the idea w hile pulling his
children on a conventional suitcase
through the airport. At a
cruising speed of 12 km/h the Modobag can
transport people w eighing up to 117 kg for
more than 10 km thanks to the built-in battery.
One can easily sit on the suitcase and put
your feet on the foldable foot rests. In addition,
the case is equipped w ith a USB socket and
microchip.
So far, only one prototype of the Modobag
exists, but in summer a crow d-funding
campaign is expected to raise the necessary
capital for series production.

AIRBUS PRINTS AN
ELECTRIC
MOTORCYCLE ON A
3D-PRINTER
Airbus CEO, Tom Enders, presented an
electric motorcycle in Ottobrunn w ith a metal
frame printed completely on a 3D printer. The
so-called Light-Rider consists of thousands of
60 micrometer-thin layers of a special
aluminum alloy and w eighs only 35 kg.
Equipped w ith a 6 kW electric motor it still
achieves speeds of 80 km/h. The motorcycle
w as developed by tw o aerospace engineers
from Airbus subsidiary, APWorks. The 3D
printer is also being increasingly employed in
the aviation industry.
AIRBUS CEO, Enders, uses the technology
and believes that by 2030, so many metal
parts w ill be replaced by lighter elements
created by a 3D printer that an Airbus
A350 may be one tonne lighter. Those
w ho w ould like to ow n this exceptional
racer, must be quick and have a suitcase
full of money: APWorks are only planning
to manufacture 50 Light-Riders. How ever,
the unit price is a remarkable €50 000.
