3. With licensing a software you are NOT the “owner” of the software.
As holder of a software license you are only permitted to USE the software.
How you can USE the software defines the owner of the software (Owner of the Copyright)
The use right of Microsoft software is defined in the …
Volume License Agreement , including:
• PUR (Product Use Rights)
• PL (Product List)
MSLT (Microsoft Software License Terms – former EULA)
“Copyright has two main purposes, namely the protection of the author’s right to obtain
commercial benefit from valuable work, and more recently the protection of the author’s
general right to control how a work is used.”
4. Product Use Rights
• “Agreement” with Microsoft
• Product Use Rights (“Agreement”) documented in the Microsoft Retail Software
License Terms (RSLT)
• Documentation (RSLT) = Online (Download)
• “Agreement” with OEM or System Builder
• Product Use Rights documented in RSLT
• Documentation = usually received from OEM/System Builder as a soft copy on the
hard drive
• “Agreement” with Microsoft
• Use Rights documented in the PURs in combination with the Volume License
Agreement
5. Single License

Distribution with Pre-Installation on a Computer

When you associate your Select Plus
Agreement with a qualifying EA/EAS
Agreement, you are not required to meet an
annual minimum purchase quantity under
Select Plus. You receive the corresponding
price level of your EA/EAS.
If you have an existing VL agreement (e.g.
Select, Open) and have acquired 500 points
or more over the past 12 months, the price
level for each pool is determined based on the
points form the previous 12 months.
You may start a Select Plus Agreement by
meeting the minimum purchase
requirements during your first year. For
each pool, you must meet a minimum of 500
points to continue purchasing in that pool in
the following year.
