The national annual budget for education is USD 10.30 billion.
Commanding market force: India’s GDP is projected to surpass that of the US and Japan and be
second only to China by 2050.
Growing budgets: The institutional market in India for journal subscriptions is estimated at $175
million and growing.
Investment in R&D: In 2011, India pledged to double its R&D expenditures to 2% of GDP over the
next five years.
New institutions: The Indian government has announced the building of some five dozen new
institutions of higher learning.
New library consortia: Newly formed consortia are improving access to and increasing demand for
scholarly publications.
