2. WELCOME In your fist three ICT Lessons at Homewood you will learn how to use ICT to become an effective learner. Lesson 1: How do I use my laptop at Homewood? Lesson 2: What is Studywiz and how do I use it? Lesson 3: What is e-safety?

3. USING YOUR LAPTOP Your laptop is your responsibility at all times. Make sure if is always in a safe place. Everyday your laptop must be fully charged , so when you get home from school the first thing you must do is charge your laptop. Otherwise it will run out of battery and you will not be able to use it. A laptop is the same as your planner, basic equipment and reading book it must be brought to school everyday . You will or already have been issued with computer password for the school network and Studywiz write these down in a safe place i.e. your planner. Make sure if you change your password you write the new one down.

4. LOGIN ON Your teacher will now show you how to log into the school network on your laptop using your username and password.

5. THE NETWORK The school network allows all the computers in the school (including the laptops) to be connected together and is one place to store work for teachers and students. It is very important that when saving your work you save it to your network drive , because if your computer breaks down and your work is saved in “My Documents” you may lose all your work.

7. HOMEWORK Using your laptop make a poster to stick up in your bedroom to remind you to charge your laptop everyday. When its finished print it out and put it up so you do not forget! Make sure you save your work on your laptop and user area so your teacher can see it next ICT lesson. Look at an example on the next slide for some ideas.
