U.S. STEM Education Challenge
# The leaky STEM Talent pipeline, a business & societal issue
 Having a solid STEM education foundation can get our
students one of 8 million jobs in the U.S. by 2018
 80% of the fastest growing occupations in U.S. require
STEM skills; with 71% of those STEM jobs in Computing
 According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS),
between 2013 and 2023, there will be two jobs available for
every graduate with a Computer Science (CS) degree
– There will be more than 1.4 million jobs created by
2020 that require CS and programming skills, but only
400,000 CS college graduates to fill those jobs
– Today lesser than 2.4% of college students graduate
with a degree in CS, with just 12% of CS degrees
awarded to women
– 9 out of 10 schools don’t even offer computer
programming classes
– In 26 of 50 states CS doesn't count towards high school
graduation math and science requirements

 We are leading the efforts to create digital fluency among the future workforce in the
U.S. through an innovative public-private partnership effort called STEM 2.0.
 We are collaborating with 36 organizations including industry leaders such as PepsiCo,
Walmart, Cisco, Dow, Monsanto, Sodexo, educators such as Apollo Group, ASU and
Discovery Education, and education nonprofits such as Smithsonian and Teach for
America.

provide nonprofits with
actionable recommendations
for improving their current IT
infrastructure and needs.
Connecting 1 million men and
women mentors to serve Girls and
Young Women
We built MWM website driving mentor pledge campaign
• We are the Founding Sponsor and
Lead Technology Partner for MWM.
• Our Digital Enterprise team developed
and launched the first phase of the
online platform.
• MWM has built a network of 42
nonprofit partners, who represent over
26 million girls.
• Over 172,980 mentors have already
pledged through the platform.
Connecting 1 million mentors to serve
Students of Color, Minorities and Low-
income Youth
• We are the Lead Technology Partner
for US2020. Our Digital Enterprise
team provided consulting advisory on
technology assessment and product
assessment.
• US2020 has served over 500
organizations, including more than
200 nonprofits, 62 school districts.
• Through the city competitions, nine of
the ten largest cities in the country
and 29 different states have started
creating their 5-year STEM plans.
• Learning Blade® is a web-based e-Learning application designed to promote
career awareness and interest in STEM. Our media and information services
team is supporting optimization for a Software-as-a-Service model.

Student Technology Program
Through goIT, we provide career awareness, hands-on technology education, teacher
training, and parent orientation, free of cost to middle and high school students through
in-school, after-school and out-of-school formats.
• The program teaches students how to collaborate in team activities, participate in technical
workshops with IT professionals, discover career opportunities, and compete in robot challenges.
• Each employee volunteer completes extensive training, covering youth psychology, education
systems and goIT CS programming, to aid their preparation as a mentor to students.
• Targeted at students from low income groups, underserved minorities, and girls; with limited access
to CS curriculum.

  • 4. 4 U.S. STEM Education Challenge # The leaky STEM Talent pipeline, a business & societal issue  Having a solid STEM education foundation can get our students one of 8 million jobs in the U.S. by 2018  80% of the fastest growing occupations in U.S. require STEM skills; with 71% of those STEM jobs in Computing  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), between 2013 and 2023, there will be two jobs available for every graduate with a Computer Science (CS) degree – There will be more than 1.4 million jobs created by 2020 that require CS and programming skills, but only 400,000 CS college graduates to fill those jobs – Today lesser than 2.4% of college students graduate with a degree in CS, with just 12% of CS degrees awarded to women – 9 out of 10 schools don’t even offer computer programming classes – In 26 of 50 states CS doesn't count towards high school graduation math and science requirements 100 High School Graduates STEM Graduates 39 Enter College 24Graduate four year college 4 2.5 Enter STEM Job

  • 9. 9 STEM 2.0  We are leading the efforts to create digital fluency among the future workforce in the U.S. through an innovative public-private partnership effort called STEM 2.0.  We are collaborating with 36 organizations including industry leaders such as PepsiCo, Walmart, Cisco, Dow, Monsanto, Sodexo, educators such as Apollo Group, ASU and Discovery Education, and education nonprofits such as Smithsonian and Teach for America.

Founding Partner Girls and Young Women The Firm, STEMconnector leaders at MWM Launch MWM will engage one million women (and men) in STEM to serve as mentors by 2018 to advance at least one million girls and young women throughout the school to work age continuum, in STEM courses, degrees, and careers.   • 11. 11 STEM e-Learning App Optimization for SAAS STEM Pro-bono Technology Projects IT Consulting for Non Profits ILP Community Projects • As part of the initial onboarding and training process, 300+ U.S campus hires have participated in skills based volunteering projects, providing IT consulting and advisory services to 62 nonprofits. • Projects allowed them to work in teams and utilize their IT skills for social good, while understanding what it means to be a consultant serving a client. • The goal of the project is to provide nonprofits with actionable recommendations for improving their current IT infrastructure and needs. Connecting 1 million men and women mentors to serve Girls and Young Women We built MWM website driving mentor pledge campaign • We are the Founding Sponsor and Lead Technology Partner for MWM. • Our Digital Enterprise team developed and launched the first phase of the online platform. • MWM has built a network of 42 nonprofit partners, who represent over 26 million girls. • Over 172,980 mentors have already pledged through the platform. Connecting 1 million mentors to serve Students of Color, Minorities and Low- income Youth • We are the Lead Technology Partner for US2020. Our Digital Enterprise team provided consulting advisory on technology assessment and product assessment. • US2020 has served over 500 organizations, including more than 200 nonprofits, 62 school districts. • Through the city competitions, nine of the ten largest cities in the country and 29 different states have started creating their 5-year STEM plans. • Learning Blade® is a web-based e-Learning application designed to promote career awareness and interest in STEM. Our media and information services team is supporting optimization for a Software-as-a-Service model.
  • 12. 12 Student Technology Program Through goIT, we provide career awareness, hands-on technology education, teacher training, and parent orientation, free of cost to middle and high school students through in-school, after-school and out-of-school formats. • The program teaches students how to collaborate in team activities, participate in technical workshops with IT professionals, discover career opportunities, and compete in robot challenges. • Each employee volunteer completes extensive training, covering youth psychology, education systems and goIT CS programming, to aid their preparation as a mentor to students. • Targeted at students from low income groups, underserved minorities, and girls; with limited access to CS curriculum.
