1. Die Sonne und der Wind führten einst
eine Unterhaltung, in welcher der
ungestüme und streitlustige Wind
behauptete, er sei der Stärkere von
beiden.
„Ich werd es dir beweisen”, sagte der
Wind. „Siehst du den alten Mann dort
unten? Ich wette, dass ich ihm seinen
Mantel schneller ausziehen kann als du.”
One day the sun and the wind
quarreled about which was the
stronger.
The wind said, “I’ll prove I
am. See that old man down
there with a coat? I bet I can
make him take his coat off
quicker than you can.”
So the sun went behind a cloud and
the wind blew until it was almost a
tornado, but the harder it blew, the
tighter the old man wrapped his
coat about him.
3. Schließlich gab der Wind auf
und flaute ab. Dann kam die
Sonne hinter der Wolke hervor
und lächelte den Mann sanft an.
Nach kurzer Zeit wischte sich
der Mann über die Stirn und zog
seinen Mantel aus. Die Sonne
hatte dem Wind gezeigt, dass
Wärme und Güte stärker sind als
Wut und Kraft.
Finally the wind calmed down
and gave up; and then the sun
came out from behind the cloud
and smiled kindly on the old
man. Presently, the man
mopped his brow and pulled off
his coat. The sun then told the
wind that gentleness and
friendliness were always
stronger than fury and force.
