WHAT IS A PHC ?
 Primary Health Centre (PHCs), sometimes referred to as public health
centres, are state-owned rural healthcare facilitiesin India. They are
essentiallysingle-physicianclinicsusuallywith facilitiesfor minor
surgeries, too. They are part of the government-funded public health
system in India and are the most basic units of this system. Presently there
are 23,109 PHCs in India
 PHCs form a basicpart of
the healthcare system.
The MedicalOfficer
appointedto run the PHC
must be aMBBS degree
holder.
FUNCTIONS OF PHC
•Provision of medical care
•Maternal-childhealthincluding familyplanning
•Safe water supply and basic sanitation
•Prevention and control of locally endemic diseases
•Collection and reporting of vital statistics
•Education about health
•National health programmes, as relevant
•Referral services
•Trainingof health guides, healthworkers, local dais and health assistants
•Basic laboratory workers
MAIN FOCUS OF PHC
 Infact immunization programs
 Anti-epidemic programs
 Birth control program
 Pregency and related programs
 Emergencies
TYPES OF PHC
There are 2 types of PHC’s.They
are:-
Type A PHC: PHC with delivery load
of less than 20 deliveries in a
month,
Type B PHC: PHC with delivery load
of 20 or more deliveries in a month

a.It is used for testing blood
samples.
b.Some testslike stool
,urine,etc are also carried
here.

a.It consists of of a bed for the
patients to take rest.

MINOR OT
a.This should be located
close to the OPD to cater
to patients for minor
surgeries and emergencies
after OPD hours.

a.Toilets should be well and
cleanly mentained.

STORES
a.There must be available of all
types of medicines thoses are
advised by respective doctors.

a.Used for operations purpose.
b.Near this room all usefull things
should be available easily

a.Dressing room is attached to
this room
b.Used by staff for relax

a.Clear floor area shall be provided in the room y
for newborn corner. I

good source of light, preferably shadow-less.
