There is an old saying "What I hear I forgot,
What I see I remember, What I do I understand”
Research finding understands that generally we
learn one person through 1% by taste, 1.5 % by
touch,3.5% by smell,11% by hearing and 83%
through sight. We remember 20% of what we
hear,30% of what we see,50% of what we see
and hear,80% of what we say,90% of what we
say and do..
Audio-Visual Aids :
•Help to learn more and remember for long
•Give reality and vividness to learning
situations
•Motivate the learners
•Reduce verbalism
•Make the abstract concrete
•Make learning interesting, meaningful and
permanent
•Develop deeper understanding
•Using Visual Aids should not be considered as a substitution for teaching. It
only meant to supplement oral and written presentation.
•Use of aids in the class room should not be confused with providing
entertainment. The aim of using aids should be to make learning more
interesting and effective.
•Aids must be suited to the age and intellectual level of the pupil and to the
nature and extent of their previous experiences
•Aids should be realistic in nature. The use of actual specimen should be
preferred to showing a photograph or slide
•When a teacher has to select one aid from among a possible set ,economy of
time, effort and money and the efficiency of the aid should be the criteria for
making the selection
Audio –Visual aids are classified in to three. They
are:
Projected Aids
Non-Projected Aids and
Activity Aids
Planning-should aware about the objectives of the
presentation. Ample number of Aids have to be planned. Plan
in advance to keep them ready to present at the appropriate
time
Preparation-Select convenient and comfortable
meeting place, seating arrangement. Anticipate the need for
special effects like ventilation, total lighting, darkeness etc
based on the concerned aid
Presentation –Motive the audience and stress the key
points they should observe during the presentation. Present
aids at the right moment and in sequence. Speak facing the
audience and not the side. And
Evaluation-At the end evaluate by providing the
discussion and dispel misunderstanding if any.
