Automating Compliance Monitoring of Patient Programs
F As Tag Sheet 100510
1. FAsTagTM
Using Technology to Identify Patients in
Need of Financial Assistance
What is FAsTagTM
?
Avadyne Health’s FAsTag service:
Is a proprietary process to identify and mark
accounts based on each guarantor’s likely need
for financial assistance (FA)
Is designed to help non-profit hospitals meet
community benefit obligations in an efficient
and cost-effective manner
Is a documentable, consistent methodology to
apply financial assistance discounts on a
presumptive basis
Combines patient account data, external
information sources, and a hospital’s financial
assistance policy to arrive at a discount
recommendation for each account
Results in increased financial assistance and
reduced bad debt, while minimizing cash impact
Is customizable to a particular financial assistance
policy and desired workflow
Why Should I Consider Using FAsTag?
While community hospitals provide a vast amount of
uncompensated care to disadvantaged patients, they face
increasing pressures to demonstrate they are meeting
community benefit obligations.
Relying on patients to complete financial assistance
applications is a cumbersome and ineffective method of
properly classifying the cost of uncompensated
care as community benefit.
Unless your hospital has in place an automated,
deliberate, and documentable way of classifying
qualifying balances as financial assistance discounts, many
of these balances will end up classified as bad debt. This
results in under-reported community benefits and
negatively affects patient relations.
How Does it Work?
FAsTag works in three easy steps:
1. We set up a secure data connection for data
exchange and upload your financial assistance
policy parameters onto FAsTag
2. Using US Census data and other public data
sources, FAsTag generates an economic profile
for each guarantor
3. FAsTag applies your financial assistance
policy parameters to arrive at a classification (Tag)
and a discount recommendation for each account
What are the Results?
Published studies estimate that as much as a third of
balances classified as bad debt could have been more
accurately classified as community benefit. FAsTag
outcomes are consistent with these estimates.
Using FAsTag as part of Avadyne Health’s Intelligent
TreatmentTM process results in reduced bad debt write-
offs, higher reportable community benefit, and minimal
cash impact to your hospital.
