3. WHAT iS THE OL RANKiNG?
The OL Ranking is a ranking of the most
popular World opposition leaders which
compares and analyzes their capacity to
extend a network of influence through
social media and thus built an opposition
network.

4. Why THE OL RANKiNG?
This ranking is the first step ever in
monitoring the social activity, and its
transcendence, of the main political
actors when it comes to control
government’s activity .
The final objective of this project is to
get a detailed database which will bring
out an overview about the different
strategies and tactics used by non
governmental parties to erode the
executive power.

5. WHAT iS An Ol?
The OL (Opposition Leader or Leader of the
Opposition) is a title traditionally held
by the leader of the largest party not in
government in a Westminster System of
parliamentary government. The Leader of
the Opposition is often seen as the
alternative Prime
Minister, Premier or Chief Minister to the
present incumbent, and heads a rival
alternative government known as the Shadow
Cabinet or Opposition Front Bench1.

6. Methodology
The OL Rank is based on three fundamental
variables: future expectations (based on
age), experience in office and use of
social media. The first two categories are
ranked from 1 to 19 and represent the 17%
of the final average each.
The use of social media analyses
both, personal and party popularity on
social the networks Twitter and Facebook.
The final OL Rank measures the average
position in the three variables
analyzed, so the fewer is the OL
value, the higher leaders are in the
ranking.

7. ChAnges FROM 2ND EDiTiON
Jack Layton take a leave of absence in the summer
of 2011 for health reasons. Nicole Turmel replaces
him as Leader of the Offcial Opposition.
Mariano Rajoy and Arun Jaitley join Twitter.
It is added the opposition leader of Lok Sabha
[INDIA], Sushma Swaraj.
It is added the Twitter and Facebook of Canada’s
New Democratic Party.
It is added the Twitter of New Zealand’s Labour
Party.
