The social, political and religious context of Jesus' life and teachings was that he lived in Palestine which was controlled by the Romans and governed by the Jewish leaders. Politically, Jesus believed in justice and equality in society. Apart from that, it is said that Jesus was uninvolved in politics directly. His sermons, however, challenged and criticised the powerful of the time.

5. What were the different groups? The main groups involed in Jesus' preachings were the Pharaisees, the Sadducees (cnservative leaders) , the Essenes and the Zealots (radical and sometimes violent). Pharaisees and Sadducees were similar in the fact that they based their ethics on hebrewscriptures – they were the lawyers and judges. However, Pharaisees accepted some later traditions whereas the Sadducees rejected them, keeping with only their original beliefs.

6. Effects of Roman Empire Up On Palestine and Judea The Roman Empire caused the fall of Jeruslam in 70 AD. Some people believe that the same civil unrest that Jesus responded to caused the rebellions and uprising that led to the Roman ‘crack-down’. Jesus was more critical of the Jewish religious leaders than the Roman leaders. Roman troops led by Pompeius occupied Palestine and Judea. It's temple was destroyed.
