5. ABOUT THE MODELED ENGINE
As we are concentrating on modeling and
simulation of radial engine we didn’t go for the
designing of various parts. For the dimensions of
various parts of radial engine we referred the book of
Prof. Sham Tickoo and edited some of the dimensions
as per need (with reference of flickr.com and
cadcim.com).

This skeleton contains all necessary information to
determine the relative motions of the main links, namely,
the length AB of the crank; the length BC of the master
rod; A the location of the axis of the main bearing; and
the path AC of point C, which represents the piston-pin
axis.

11. KINEMATIC ANALYSIS
The kinetics analysis is calculated with help of
three methods:
• Klein’s Construction.
• Approximate Analytical Method for velocity and
acceleration.
• Kinematic Analysis with the help of CATIA V5 R17.
• Klein’s Construction Method

Vp = ω×OM = 314.16×25.981 = 8.162 m/s.
• Acceleration of piston,
ap = ×NO = ×14.946 =1475.111 m/s.
Approximate Analytical Method:
• Velocity of Piston, Vp = ω×r( + ) = 8.652 m/s
• Acceleration of Piston, ap =
= 1391.58 m/s2
.
Using CATIA V5 Software:
• Velocity of piston = 8.778 m/s.
• Acceleration of piston = 1200.13 m/s2
.

12. COMPARISON OF RESULTS
The results obtained through the various methods
for the velocity and acceleration of the connecting rod
and piston are found to be satisfactory.
13. DISCUSSION
• In order to calculate the accelerations, we must first
find the positions of all the links or elements in the
mechanism for each increment of input motion, and then
differentiate the position equations versus time to find
velocities, and then differentiate again to obtain the
expressions for acceleration.
• From Newton's second law, “Dynamic forces are
proportional to acceleration”.
• We need to know the dynamic forces in order to
calculate the stresses in the components.
14.CONCLUSION
Using CATIA software one can understand
complete working of the radial engine(any model)
before it actual designing and manufacturing.

  • 20. 12. COMPARISON OF RESULTS The results obtained through the various methods for the velocity and acceleration of the connecting rod and piston are found to be satisfactory.
  • 21. 13. DISCUSSION • In order to calculate the accelerations, we must first find the positions of all the links or elements in the mechanism for each increment of input motion, and then differentiate the position equations versus time to find velocities, and then differentiate again to obtain the expressions for acceleration. • From Newton's second law, “Dynamic forces are proportional to acceleration”. • We need to know the dynamic forces in order to calculate the stresses in the components.
  • 22. 14.CONCLUSION Using CATIA software one can understand complete working of the radial engine(any model) before it actual designing and manufacturing.
