Social media marketing - English presentation

Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. Concept & 4 SMM characteristicsBasic forms of SMM Advantages and disadvantages of SMM:AdvantagesDisadvantagesFacebook – a effective channel for SMM.
  2. Social media marketing is such a broad term that many people who are looking to boost the image of their company ask “What is social media marketing?”This is a common question, mostly because it is an umbrella term. The definition of social media marketing is hard to truly describe, but a popular definition says that it is the methodical use of marketing with other technological concepts and techniques to achieve specific goals for a company. In simple terms social marketing, means building a business through many different media, like viral videos and blogs, because these give your company exposure. While social media marketing was originally developed from the desire companies had to capitalize on commercial marketing techniques, it has recently developed into a more integrative and comprehensive discipline that draws on a wide array of technology, from the traditional to the most cutting edge methods out there. Not all types of social media marketing working immediately. While you may have to wait a minimum of three months to see any kind of change, it is worth it in the long run when you see what social marketing can do for your business. There are thousands of articles and blog posts describing the actual definition of social media marketing (SMM) online. Many internet marketers are still broadcasting that social media is the next big thing and even though it might all seem new to you, it has been around for a while. When you mention social media to most people, the first thing that they usually think about is Facebook and Twitter. If you think that social media only consists of those two channels (tools), have a look below on some characteristics of this trend, and why it is important to include a detailed social media marketing strategy for your business.Social media marketing characteristicsContributing and participating: Social media is all about contributing and participating in online conversations. With all the new social media channels being launched everyday, people enjoy communicating with others in interactive communities.Open and transparent: One of your main goals should be to build trust with your current and prospective clients in your social media strategy. You must always be truthful when you are dealing with your market online as one negative comment in 140 characters or less can destroy your reputation.Build relationships: If you are a small business owner, it is important to establish relationships with people in your target market. Conversations online on various channels can happen in real-time with real people. People don’t want to be offered any services or products, they want to be connected to be heard.Community focused: Social media marketing for small organizations usually only depends on communities online. Many people use online communities to find and filter for relevant information if they are interested in a specific product or service. If you offer a good service to your customers and you take care to build solid relationships on these communities, you will get positive comments and opinions on your services and products.Social media marketing is an excellent method for small businesses and young start-up companies to get the word out about them. SMM allows you to promote yourself while building lasting relationships in various online communities.

  10. 1.    Bad Branding – The wrong online brand strategy can doom a company, and put you at a huge viral social disadvantage.  Just ask Sony.  Sony has a great platform in the PS3 but they chose to neglect the value of effective social media and as a result the sales of the Microsoft Xbox have soared while Sony’s always remain number two.2.    Commitment  If your company decided to start a blog, twitter feed, or Facebook page, then designate someone to maintain it.  There is nothing worse than going to visit a corporate blog in September and the last post was in June.  It tells potential customers that if you are too busy to maintain your blog then you are probably too busy to provide them with customer support.  They will shop elsewhere.  If as a company you can’t commit at least 6-8 hours a week on Social Media then don’t bother with it.  Social Media is a living breathing beast.  If you feed the beast then the beast works for you, but you need to feed it often.3.    Relevant content! -  Let’s be honest.  Blogs and Twitter feeds tend to take on the persona of their authors and this is a bad, bad thing!  It is not an individual’s feed or blog, it belongs to the company and they have designated you as the reply to post.  Many Social media marketers forget this and think that they are the blog or feed.  This will only end in a bad way.  Corporate blogs and feeds should be agnostic.  4.    Time  Getting involved with Social Media is very time consuming.  As a company you will need to designate an individual to constantly feed your pages and profile with relevant content. This individual also has to monitor comments and respond to questions.  For small companies this can be a serious problem as they need all hands on deck to keep the company afloat. The commitment of time is why many small companies choose not to engage in social media to boost their marketing efforts. They realize their limitations and simply do without.  This is where an outside consultant becomes invaluable.5.No short term – The honest truth is that Social Media Marketing is a long term strategy.  Seeing a return could take anywhere from a few months to a year before a company sees the benefits of increased customer loyalty and sales.6.    The risk of negative comments – Any time a company opens itself up to open criticism there is the possibility of negative comments about a product or service. I don’t see this as a negativeAbove all Social Media is a fantastic tool if used properly, but it takes time and dedication.  Imagine a scenario where something goes wrong with a product line.  Social Media can be used to get your corporate apology and statement out extremely quickly to do damage control and get a statement out before your customers start forming a negative opinion.  It is a great tool, but every tool has to have safety precautions when using it.  Ultimately, deciding if you should employ social networks as part of your marketing plan comes down to what is right for your business.  Can you afford to commit the time and effort to reap the rewards?  Social Media is definitely not a “band-aid” solution to a poor marketing plan, or to give you a sudden surge of sales.  Social Media is a committed effort to building relationships and a client base for the long haul.
