5. OUR MANIFESTO TO THE WORLD
Technological progress is not a
force of nature, however, it reflects economic
and social decisions. Choices of companies,
individuals
and Governments can influence the direction
technology takes and, consequently, the
income distribution.
From the book: Inequality: what can be done?
— Anthony B. Atkinson
6. OUR MANIFESTO TO THE WORLD
We believe that the social, economic,
cultural and political inequity among
people in the world, in its present
dimension, although historically common,
is ethically and morally unacceptable, and
a severe danger to the future of mankind,
for a sustainable development and a
happier society
Equity means first and foremost a sense of justice,
fairness and respect for equal opportunities and
rights.
We consider that many of the current technological
advances have simultaneously utopian and dystopian
potential, therefore demand intense research on the
progressive and regressive effects of them on
economics, sustainable development and democracy.
We don't believe in techno-solutionism for all our
problems or the somehow apocalyptic vision of
technological singularity2.

7. We are cautiously optimistic that the
technological revolution will create
mechanisms to promote the common good
and increase the quality of life for every
human being. We consider now as a critical
moment to encourage principles, values and
actions in that direction.
We advocate a voluntary and broad debate on principles,
ethics and practices in the development and
accountability of exponential and disruptive technological
innovations.
We understand that the major challenges of humanity
operate in open complex systems, thus shaped by
interconnected, non-linear, self-organized actions and
relationships with multiple causes and effects. We
consider that solutions must be dynamically adapted
to the context, therefore, of "best fit" type and not
"best practice".
We want to take advantage of the devices of the digital
revolution in order to contribute to the reduction of
inequalities, to the regeneration of the ecosystems on
which we all depend and to the promotion of the
ethical values that define us as human beings.
