2. General Warning
May damage ozone layer and
cause irritation
Flammable
Some substances give off
flammable glass when in contact
with water. Easily catch fire
Radioactive
Gives out radiation. Used when
radioactive materials are used
Laboratory Hazards
Corrosive
Destroy or burn living tissue,
damages skin as well as eyes
Explosive
Explodes easily
Glassware
Broken glass equipment can
cause injury or wounds

3. Toxic/Danger
Lead to death if inhaled,
absorbed by skin or
ingested/swallowed
Electrical Hazard
Make aware about the electrical
wires than can cause electric
shocks
High-Voltage
Cause death or harm to living
organism when it comes in
contact with high voltage
electricity
Hot Surface
Gives indication of the
equipment behind you is
extremely hot and cause burning
Oxidizing Material
Can burn even without air.
Provides oxygen which allows
material to burn fiercely
Non-ionizing Radiation
Cause damage to body tissues if
exposed to it much

4. Laboratory Safety Measures
 Before entering the lab
make sure you are
wearing goggles,
gloves, lab coat and lab
shoes for your safety
 Tie up your hair before
performing any
experiment
 Do not take edibles
along with you in the
laboratory
 Do not play with any
equipment or thing
in the laboratory
 Do not mix up chemicals
without following the given
instructions. Ask you teacher
for queries

 Do not use the
equipment you are
unaware off
 Do not taste or smell
any chemical
 Never return unused
chemicals to original
container
 Examine glassware
before each use
 Report even the minor
injury to your teacher
 Use the first aid box
present in the
laboratory
 Always wash
your hands
after handling
the equipment
 Always read the labels of any
apparatus/ chemical before using

A glass tube with a tap at
one end, for delivering
known volumes of a liquid
Stirrer
It is a glass rod used
to mix chemicals and
liquids
Weighing Balance
A machine used to
measure mass in any
unit
