The development of new roads, enhancement of existing roads and new runways are part of infrastructure boom in India as well as in Gujarat. Need of strength parameters of subgrade soils is very important in monitoring and evaluation of roads and runways subgrade quality. Laboratory determination of California Bearing Ratio useful for flexible pavement design, Coefficient of subgrade reaction K-Value needed for rigid pavement, raft footing and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) is required for determination of shear strength parameter of subgrade are time consuming and demand significant effort but mandatory. Dynamic Cone Penetration test can be a faster and easier way to evaluate subgrade strength. In present study an investigation has been carried out on strength parameters for the soil from various locations of Gujarat, In-situ condition has been created in laboratory using bigger testing mould and various tests like Liquid Limit, Plastic limit as well as CBR, PBT, UCS and DCP were carried out on repetitive samples of Maximum Dry Densities achieved through modified proctor effect in soaked condition. The empirical correlations have been established among test results using linear regression procedure. The formulations are validated using other sets of tests data. The developed empirical correlations may be useful to estimate time consuming strength parameters as well as physical properties at numerous locations within area under consideration using simple and rapid DCP test. Polymer composites and hybrid polymer composites are replacing many of the monolithic materials and alloys due to their higher strength to weight ratio, while apparently exhibiting excellent strength to corrosion and wear resistance. Investigation was carried out through experimental study on Silicon Carbide (SiC) filled, different combination of hybrid composites to determine the ‘two body’ abrasive wear behavior. Freshly fabricated Glass-Jute-Epoxy, Glass –Sisal-Epoxy and Glass-Rubber-Epoxy composites with different weight percentage of silicon carbide filler was subjected to two body abrasive wear test under normal room temperature in dry condition on pin-on-disc equipment using 300 grit SiC sand papers. Abrasive paper was stuck on to the rotating disc and test specimen was attached to the flat surface of the pin. The effect of filler content on the (0%,5%,10% ) was studied for 20N load for different sliding distance (25m,50m,75m,100m). The results reveal that the material with increases in filler content is prone to higher wear resistance. The polymer composites with 10% SiC showed least wear loss in all the combination under consideration and lowest wear loss was achieved in glass rubber epoxy and10% SiC combination.

The major constituent of the bituminous mix are aggregates. The characteristics of the bituminous mix are mainly affected by properties of aggregates. The angle of repose of aggregates of different sizes and sources have been designed in the present study. Further, an attempt has been made to study the effect of angle of repose to the strength of bituminous mix. Indirect tensile strength has been used as the measure of the strength of bituminous mix, subsequently, the statistical relationship has been proposed between the overall angles of repose of the aggregates used in the bituminous mix to its indirect tensile strength.

The coir fibre is treated using natural fluid before using in concrete, so that it is not be affected by moisture content presented in concrete. In this tentative study coir fibre is extant consumed in concrete thereby, the mechanical properties such as compressive strength, split-tensile strength, and modulus of rupture of M30Grade concrete and by capricious the spoonful of fibre gratified from0%, 2% 4%,6% and 8%. Stimulation should be given for the appliance of natural fibres which are regionally procurable materials, in the domain of civil engineering.

A state of extreme landfill areas redevelopment program in many parts of the country has cause to bring the use of recycled aggregate. The low quality of recycled aggregate has limited its use to low grade applications such as roadwork sub base and pavements, while its adoption for higher grade concrete is rare because of the lower compressive strength and higher variability in mechanical performance of recycled aggregate. A new concrete mixing method, that is the two stage mixing approach TSMA , was publically recommends to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete RAC by splitting the mixing process into two stages. The variation of compressive strength by experimental analysis involving the new mixing method with the two stage mixing approach by proportioning ingredients with the percentage of recycled coarse aggregates RCA , fly ash and rice husk ash. Based on experiments and results, improves strength to RAC were achieved with TSMA. This can be regarded as to the porous nature of RA and the mixing process that fills up some of its pores and cracks, resulting in a denser aggregate and concrete. This experimental investigation studies the benefits of reinforcing the various sub grade soils in flexible pavement. Three types of soils A, B and C and a particular type of Jute geo textile material were selected for the study. Fundamental properties of soils like specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit and optimum moisture content were determined on unreinforced soils; California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test and Unconfined Compression (UCC) Strength test were also conducted on unreinforced and reinforced soils. The optimum quantity of jute geo textile was arrived based on the results from CBR test, other parameters such as modulus of elasticity and failure stress were ascertained from the results of UCC test. Using the optimum geo textile content, the thickness of pavement required over the three types of sub grade soils with and without reinforcement was determined based on the guidelines specified in IRC 37-2001. A comparative analysis was carried out to identify the economy in the material due to the effect of reinforcing the soils with jute geo textile. Subsequently cost benefit analysis of reinforced and unreinforced pavement was also done to ascertain the economic viability of fibre material. From the result analysis it was observed there is a significant material save of about 25% per every km of pavement

The uses of automobiles are increasing day by day because of that the waste of tyres increases in Sri Lanka. Safer disposal of rubber tyre waste has become a challenging job in Sri Lanka. As a result of the improper way of disposal, there is a great damage to eco system like air pollution and aesthetic pollution. So that use of their basic properties in engineering applications are become prominent. This investigation has focused on the CBR of soil reinforced with randomly mixed shredded rubber tyre chips and the results will be compared with unreinforced samples. The optimal percentage value of shredded rubber tyre content in soil will be determined using the Standard proctor compaction test and CBR test. Concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension and brittle also. Cracks also start forming as soon as the concrete is placed. These above said drawbacks don't permit the use of normal concrete in pavements as they lead to a lack of ductility along with fracture and failure. These weaknesses in concrete can be mitigated by using fibers as reinforcement in the concrete mix. Waste materials in the form of polyethylene and tires cause environmental pollution which leads to various health problems. Polyethylene and waste tires can be reused and used efficiently in the concrete as reinforcement in the fiber form. Polyethylene is a synthetic hydrocarbon polymer which can improve the ductility, strength, shrinkage characteristics. This study deals with the effects of addition of polyethylene fiber on the properties of concrete. In this study, Polyethylene and tire fibers were cut into the size of 25mm x 8mm and they were used 1.5 each by volume. Grades of concrete used were M 30, M 35 and M 40. IRC 44 2008 was followed for the design of concrete mix. In this study, the results of the strength properties of Polyethylene fiber reinforced concrete have been presented. Four point bending and double shear test were performed in the laboratory for flexure and shear strength determinations. There was seen an increase of 18 in the 28 day compressive strength along with an increase of 39 in flexure Strenght and 32 in shear strength. It is also found that 22 reduction in the four point bending test and 36 reduction in deflection by double shear tests were initiated out from the experiments. Theoretical analysis of deflection was carried out with the help of energy methods. Practical values were verified with the theoretical values within the allowable limits. Finally, it is concluded that polyethylene and tire used efficiently in reinforced cement concrete. Huge quantity of Cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash are generating as a waste product in agriculture sector in India and many other developing countries every year. In lack of proper wakefulness and technology expansion, great portion of these by products remain unutilized causing severe disposal and environmental troubles. The main goal of this thesis is to examine the performance of M40 grade concrete with a mix ratio as per M40 grade and a water cement ratio of 0.425 Additionally, it aims to determine the compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of concrete cement when cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash are used in place of cement. With various percentage like 10, 20, and 30 etc. of cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash well as with combined replacement of Cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash. and results that the workability of concrete was found to be reduced on enhance the Cotton stalk ash CSA , rice husk ash RHA by difference percentages. The Maximum increase in 53.67 N mm2 of compressive strength is obtained after the period 28 days with cotton stalk ash substituting 10 of the cement CSA . The maximum increase in flexural strength over the period of 28 days was 5.98 N mm2, with cotton stalk ash substituting 10 of the cement CSA . When 10 of the cement is replaced with cotton stalk ash, the significant increase in split tensile strength for 28 days is 4.23N mm2 CSA By substituting cotton stalk ash, rice husk ash for 20, 10 of the cement, the compressive strength as per this investigations for 28 days is observed 49.47 N mm2 CSA, RHA is not achieved highest value but achieve the target mean strength. The greatest results are achieved when cotton stalk ash are utilized, although at different percentages. Application of Geosynthetics in Pavement Design

For the development of any country, a satisfactory mode of transport and communication is indispensable. This can be achieved through a transportation system, which is economically viable. Economy in road network can be achieved through economical pavement design. The entire load coming over the infrastructure is ultimately transmitted to the subgrade. Load carrying and dispersion capacity of subgrade soil play a vital role in civil engineering. In case of highway a weak subgrade results in greater thickness of pavement layer, so that the stresses on the subgrade are inconsonant with their load carrying capacity. Empirically flexible pavements are designed on the basis of CBR value of the subgrade and traffic on the proposed road. As per IRC recommendation increase in CBR value from 2.0% to 5.0% reduces the thickness requirement by 35% for 1.0 msa of traffic. Therefore improvement in subgrade has always been an area of concern to highway and geotechnical engineers. In the present study a series of Proctor Compaction tests and California Bearing Ratio tests have been carried out on soil mixed with jute fiber. Jute fibers of different diameters (2 to 8mm) and lengths (0.5 to 2.0 mm) are mixed in the subgrade in different percentage (0.2 to 1.0%) to find out the optimal quantity. Proctor and CBR test results are presented in the paper.

Discover the Kisan Call Centre: Your Gateway to Agricultural Assistance KISAN CALL CENTRE In order to harness the potential of ICT in Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the scheme “Kisan Call Centres” (KCCs) on January 21, 2004. Main aim of the scheme is to answer farmers’ queries on a telephone call in their own language. These call centres are working in 21 different locations in the country covering all the States and UTs. A countrywide common eleven digit Toll Free Number 1800-180-1551 has been allotted for Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through mobile phones and landlines of all telecom networks including private service providers. Replies to the farmers’ queries are given in 22 local languages. Kisan Call Centre services are available from 6.00 AM to 10.00 PM on all seven days of the week at each KCC location. Kisan Call Centre agents known as Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), who are graduate or above (i.e. PG or Doctorate) in Agriculture or allied sectors (Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Sericulture, Aquaculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Marketing, Bio-Technology, Home Science, etc.) and possess excellent communication skills in respective local language. Queries which cannot be answered by FTAs are transferred to higher level experts. These experts are Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of State Departments of Agriculture (SDAs), ICAR Institutes, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). A Kisan Knowledge Management System (KKMS) has been developed to capture all the details of the caller and sending gist of answer given through SMS. KKMS has its independent website : http://dackkms.gov.in. The KCC, FTAs working at various KCC locations throughout the country have access to this website through their specific IDs and password provided to them.
