An Interfaith Panel Puts A Personal Face on Religion
At the beginning of the fall semester, Santa Clara High School students were offered a unique opportunity to meet and engage in
an interfaith dialogue with representatives of four major world religions: Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. As 60
students gathered in the library, their excitement was obvious. This was the first panel of its kind and an integral part of their
studies. Read the complete story here:

The feedback from the group included:
“It is truly inspirational to myself as a teacher that there are others out there who also
highly value educating the public and encouraging youth to respect the array of belief
systems, ideas, opinions, and traditions that exist.” ~ Teacher, Santa Clara High School

The Importance of Tracking Annual Student Performance
To assess students' knowledge of the California content standards, public schools are required to administer the California
Standards Tests (CSTs) for History–Social Science. Each year, these tests are administered to students in Grade 8 and in Grades 9-
11 who have completed U.S. History and World History courses.
Higher proficiency levels in schools hosting ING presentations
An in-depth study of Bay Area schools that have consistently and consecutively offered ING presentations shows that these
schools have higher than average student CST scores for History-Social Science.

For Teachers and School Administrators
Understanding Muslim Students: Fostering an Inclusive Environment
Designed for K-12 district administrators and teachers as well as faculty in colleges and schools of
education, department chairs, deans and pre-service teachers, this seminar provides valuable information
and guidance for interaction with Muslim students and their families, while helping build an inclusive
learning environment for all students.
According to the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, the number of
students in public schools who belong to a minority ethnic group had increased from 22% in 1972 to 43%
in 2003. Diversity awareness training by ING provides best practices for integrating Muslim students who
can also come from varying cultural backgrounds. This training is an essential component of ongoing
professional development for teachers and school administrators.
