2. Its Time that Employees help fight COVID Scare for Business in 2020
While there is a general anxiety among people about COVID-19’s outbreak, it's also more with the businesses who
provide employment to millions of people in the world.
The current situation may be more grave for smaller companies as coping post impact is difficult. For big-scale or
large companies, the impact would be way beyond the reach as it can be easily seen with the economies
experiencing a major slowdown. However, employees in small and mid-sized companies are more close to the
business interns of multiple functional areas and management.
Impact :
There is a cascading effect on various businesses irrespective of the business that you are in. The Global impact of
COVID-19 is threatening to paralyse the Economic Activities including Manufacturing, Services within the country
and Exports/Imports of Goods and Services as most of the countries are in their lockdown period. There are
dependencies of businesses which would impact on various other businesses leading to the revenue losses of
companies in every Industry.
For example, if an American firm has outsourced its various segments to a firm operating in India then the loss will
be borne by both the companies if lockdown state occurs in any of the countries (as they would be incapable of
meeting demands & supply).
3. You as an Employee can do to help and support your business:
1. Protect 😷:
Protect yourself and your team members from the virus by following the complete hygienic schedule issued by
various governments. Since the world has already encountered around 2,76,500 cases to date, it becomes of
utmost importance for you to take complete care of yourself by self-quarantining. Moreover, humans are the most
important resources for any industry and that's why companies have churned out great precautionary measures to
curb the spread.
2. Prepare 🙏:
Talk to your manager/owner or whosoever is in charge, how you could contribute to the higher productivity while
having limitations in resources. We’re living in the Gen-Z generation where all necessary equipment is available at
our disposal, the only thing required is the change in mindset.

4. Business Ideas:
Identify new opportunities to improve the business’s interaction
with client / customers / Employees. Keep your point of view and
creative solutions for the company to consider.
Remember, best of the ideas come from the lowest level of
employees, as they know the ground realities. Business owners are
extremely positive to help implement things that matter to most to
the Business.
Eg: If you see this poster by #zaggle is an idea of an employee. In his
own words of the Founder - Raj N Phani: "Very proud of Zaggle's
gesture, the idea came from one of the junior-most employee and it
got enacted in minutes". In this example, it is not just the idea but
also the impact it's doing to the entire employees in contributing to
the well being of the company.

Multiple Roles:
Help to perform other functional/operational tasks that can help an organisation avoid new hiring - you can try out
different domains and help your colleagues so that the hiring cost and time gets saved.
Utilise leaves
If possible - if WFH is not possible and if you’re not able to concentrate on work due to personal reasons, take the
ownership of contributing to your business.
Leave without pay:
If there is a possibility that you may be able to contribute to this option and also in cases where you don't have
leaves in store. Also can be used where you feel that your continuation to business may not be much during this
stress times.
Partial Work Hours:
Use partial work hours and pay - many countries have adopted partial work hour norms and employees are paid the
amount equivalent to the hours worked.
Differed Pay:
Support in partly differing the pay at later parts of the year- understand that the companies are going through a
downfall and if you can manage the expenses for a while, consider this option.
6. Work from Home (WFH):
All the Works that allow this option. Rest of the works with caution on-site/offsite work as if you are working at an
office. Work timings: need to be followed, so be ready as if you are moving out, shall definitely give a positive vibe,
&remove distractions and fix time for those. Stick to what your timings were when you were at the office, don’t
contribute less to what you had committed for. Set routine for everyone - really important for working mothers - ask
kids to get up and set a schedule for themselves and pack tiffin's/lunch/snacks accordingly (at least for the first half)
as most of us are reachable/ productive at that time - kids won't disturb you - add little (TV / game time / online
learning / hobby session) in their schedule
Meeting over Slack, Skype, WebEx, or Zoom:
If you are into a business which deals with clients then encourage them to connect via virtual network and conduct
meetings over Slack, Skype, WebEx or Zoom. People conduct various webinars on these platforms and manage to
gather a good amount of response from the public. Nothing’s changed when you’re working from home, rather it has
made the work easier for you (take it as an opportunity to reinvent in your digital world and plunge into the game).
Utilize Extra-time of Commute:
On average, a normal Indian spends 1-3 hours commuting on a daily basis. While working from home would give you
an option to stay away from the honk & traffic amidst the everyday hustle & bustle, save up your time by investing in
the pending work or learning something new or offer your time for interning and learning new things from other
departments/functions, that way you can contribute faster to the business stability.

7. Branding via Social networking:
When it comes to social networking- LinkedIn, Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & others have reduced the
physical distance or presence of an individual. Today deals are cracked over LinkedIn even before the persons or
businesses meet in person. This is the greatest time of all as you can put all your efforts in forging on a great
branding plan. Be vocal about your company and ensure that your presence over social platforms are being marked
or seen viably.
4. Own The Business👑:
The most important skill in the testing times. Look at from the business owner perspective and if it was your
business to help you and the business. An attitude to wear!! it's your business and the impact is equally weighted
on you. Every person who contributes to the business growth should consider taking the ownership of business as
leaders aren’t built overnight, it takes a complete amount of time, dedication and a spark of doing or achieving
more. Feel accomplished to be the part of an organization and make moves as if it’s your business which is facing a
downfall (because the downfall would certainly affect every single employee).
