Modal verbs in German
They are conjugated differently than “normal” verbs

• müssen
• sollen
• wollen
• dürfen
They are:
Können – can, be able to
• Ich kann
• Du kannst
• Er/sie/es/man kann
• Wir können
• Ihr könnt
• Sie/sie können
Müssen – must, have to
• Ich muss
• Du musst
• Er/sie/es/man muss
• Wir müssen
• Ihr müsst
• Sie/sie müssen
Sollen - should
• Ich soll
• Du sollst
• Er/sie/es/man soll
• Wir sollen
• Ihr sollt
• Sie/sie sollen
Wollen – want to
• Ich will

Dürfen – be allowed to
