Brief overview
1. Introduction
2. Electronic Information Resources
3. E-journals And Academic institutions
4. Use of e-resources
5. Accessing e-journals and electronic books
6. Conclusion
1. Introduction
 Technology is creating new publishing media and today’s collections
have to adapt to not only holding print but also electronic sources of
    academic information.

 All too often, academic and student users are either unaware of
what is available to them, uncertain of its use and value, or unable
to find their way to and into the resources provided for them.

 The range of electronic sources now available to researchers and
students alike is dizzyingly wide, and they can be confusing and
complex to identify and locate, with so many publishers, aggregators,
    portals and databases.
Cont..

 Today we realize that academic institutions
increasingly subscribes to a vast amount of
information that is not available by simply searching
    the Web.

 This includes essential information that you will be
expected to refer to in your essays, dissertations
    and research.
What is an ‘electronic library
     resource’?
Any library or information resource that can
  be accessed via computer, e.g.
2. Electronic journals Full-text—whole journal
      available
      Electronic version of print
      Electronic only
      Examples at www3.oup.co.uk/jnls/

EXAMPLES
Also e-books, reports, magazines, grey literature
Cont..

 E-journals provide access to’ full text’ of
individual or collected journals of various
    subjects.

 Some are freely available but others require
    subscriptions through parent
    organisations/individuals.Ex. Most public
universities are members of the African
universities corsotia -share and access e-
    resources through subscription.
5. Use of e-resources in Academic
            institutions

                    Use of e-resources

  outside library Off campus

                         In library
                           47%
6. Accessing e-journals

internet explorer), click on the database link or e-
    Journal title to gain access.

10. Conclusion
 Academic and research institutions in the 21st century will continue to
acquire, organize and preserve academic information-
    irrespective of the disciplines

 Completing the transition from print and electronic resources will
allow students across levels repurpose themselves towards
accessing information online not withstanding the challenges of
    the emergence of new technologies.
