the levels of aflatoxins contamination-Food Loss.

aflatoxins contamination in the value chain.

3. A Coordination structure for aflatoxins management
targeting the safety of the maize value chain developed.
Technical capacities of the NFSCC members and the
selected technical officers from the national and County
government enhanced
A monitoring programme for aflatoxins management in
maize value chain designed.
A Code of Practice to reduce contamination of aflatoxins
in maize developed.
4. National Food Safety Coordination Committee (NFSCC)
and selected officers at the National level.
Six Counties namely:
-Machakos
-Makueni
-Kitui
-Embu
-Tharaka Nithi
-Meru
5. A draft Coordination Guide has been developed as a
working document for the wider stakeholders input.
The Capacity Needs Assessment has been carried out
in the pilot areas.
- The two drafts will be presented to the wider
stakeholders for further input / review.
6. There are many disjointed initiatives by different players
causing confusion.
Awareness on aflatoxins and associated hazards is low
– information gap.
Low Technical Capacity – Knowledge Gap.
Weak policy and regulatory framework.
Testing capacity and diagnostic detection a major
challenge.
Lack of Market incentives for Aflatoxin free foods.
7. Undertake a Stakeholder analysis.
Urgent need for a National Aflatoxin Platform, PACK??.
Awareness Campaigns on aflatoxins and associated
hazards– Disseminate available information.
Strengthen Technical Capacity both at National and
Counties.
Strengthen Institutional and regulatory framework.
Policy review to support Market incentives for Aflatoxin
free products.
