The fact is that interaction has been completely revolutionized. What for the past several years has been driven by millions of transactions via the web has now been made significantly more challenging by the explosion of mobile and the internet of things. From smart phones, connected cars, Internet TVs, game consoles, sensors and connected appliances are driving trillions of transactions.
Because of this you need to rethink your concept of integration. For years, integration was a back office functionality, the domain of IT architects and developers (where you would walk into a dark cold room filled with empty mountain dew cans). Integration was needed but it wasnât a differentiator. It didnât drive business value. That has changed. With this revolution of interaction the integration landscape is changing. The collection of data, more than that the effective usage of data to drive action is determining the winners and losers in the marketplace. The adoption of Cloud has become the great equalizer allowing organizations to punch above their weight and quickly compete in established marketsâŚor create new markets. Engagement, with customers, partners, even competitors will redefine the value you create in the marketplace. And the internet of things will provide the context to drive decisions, to influence the marketplace, and to ensure action.

Integration has become the center of the universe. And guess whatâŚthe universe is expanding. More sensors, more partners, more insight, more apps, moreâŚeverything. And your ability to integrate all of those and do it quickly is going to determine the winners and losers. Making all of those flashy and cool new technologies come to lifeâŚall of those business initiatives that the boardroom is staking the companyâs growth onâŚthey depend on integration to work.
Because now everyone is doing integration. From IT managers, to developers to your lines of business who are sitting at their desks combining data sets to drive their own insight. They may think they are just doing analysisâŚbut they are integrating.
So while the CMO or the COO may not start screaming for integration on a daily basis; youâll certainly hear about it when that new mobile app canât connect to you existing data.
So for all of you sitting in this room todayâŚthis is your chance.
It is time to take integration out of the back office and treat it for the resource it is. The ability to connect big data sources, the ability to securely integrate hybrid and private cloud applications and to connect systems of engagement to systems of insight to systems of recordâŚthat is going to be the competitive differentiator.
Today, you must integrate across everything.
We know that delivering on the promise of mobile, the Internet of Things and even Web technologies presents a challenge. Your line of business peers are asking for apps to meet their objectives and those of your organization. They expect to use mobile apps to deliver value to your customers, prospects and employees. But they donât consider the challenges of developing engaging apps and integrating them securely with back end systems of record and insight. Dealing with those challenges can be a drain on time and resources.
Some of the early pioneers in mobile built native applications and hooked them up to their systems of record. There was a large bank in Europe that did thisâconnecting their mobile apps directly to their master data management system. This created a couple of problems. First, as the mobile apps scaled, the load on the back end systems grew enormously. Additionally, if you had to make a change to your system of record, you took an outage on your mobile apps. Hence IBM believes a new tierâa system of engagementâis needed for mobile apps, to allow for cloud scaling and to mash up information from systems of record as well as other cloud sources and the Internet of things.

Letâs look at whatâs behind the scenes in the Passenger+ demo.
We have a hybrid app with the Passenger+ Mobile Experience running in the cloud on Bluemix which provides the experience to the ipad.
It pulls information from the airlines Systems of Record like the Reservation System, Customer Profile System and Flight Operation systems.
All of this is integrated through Hybrid Integrations Servercies.
It leverages services including Analytics, Rules and Workflow.
Now, Iâd like to invite Matt Key, Senior Solution Architect and Bill Souliere, Senior Systems Architect from WestJet up to talk about what they are doing.
Marie: Thank you Bill and Matt.
Now Iâd like to bring Harish Grama, up. Harish is the Vice President of Middleware Products within IBM Systems.
Thank you Marie. WestJet and the Passenger+ scenario are two powerful examples of why organizations need a Multi-speed IT environment.
Â
The Passenger+ scenario demonstrated how an organization leveraged mobile apps and the cloud to change the client experience.
Â
And WestJet used integration solutions to transform their businessâ leveraging their existing infrastructure with SOA and then adding richer integration capabilitiesâŚâŚâŚ..to open new opportunities.
Â
So whether you are creating apps that are born on the cloud and need an infrastructure based on speed to easily provision new environments and rapidly prototype new applications or, an organization with a strong reliance on existing systems and data, a multi-speed IT environment gives you the flexibility to differentiate by leveraging the strength of your IT assets wherever they may be.
Â
It is no longer sufficient to live solely in the traditional enterprise world. Yet, rapid innovation cannot deliver real business value unless it is integrated with core enterprise systems.
Â
This is where the hybrid world accelerates transformation by bringing the two sides together. A hybrid, multi-speed IT environment, provides the agility to grow and innovate across a fluid landscape. --> Go to next slide
Â
Integration and an Application Platform are at the heart of digital transformationâŚ..because you need an application platform to build, run and manage apps anywhere, anytime and in any format and integration capabilities to deliver the seamless experience.
Â
Capabilities like messaging, API management, gateway services, runtimes, open ecosystems and devops are key to digital transformation because they provide a differentiated customer experienceâŚâŚâŚ.all with built in security at every point in the environment.
Â
Let's take a closer look at the Integration component of this transformation

Â
Let's take a closer look at the Integration component of this transformation
The nature of applications has changed dramatically â we see data rich mobile and social apps that drive billions of transactions every minute. So itâs imperative that you have an application platform that gives you speed and agility across a hybrid landscape to handle the diverse nature of modern applications.
Specifically, an Application Platform that provides the freedom to choose how, when, where and in what format you want to build, run, move and manage apps. The ability to accelerate application delivery â because in todayâs digital world, innovation doesnât stop. Customers wonât wait for the next big releaseâŚ.they want continuous delivery of new capabilities and information nowâŚwhen it matters most. And finally, as new business services, insight and capabilities are pushed through mobile, social and other channels, systems of record are under pressure to perform and scale at unprecedented levels, This requires you to operate at dynamic scale - to scale up or down to capitalize on new opportunities when the time is right.

Integration is critical in this hybrid world. You have to incorporate with new partners, vendors, third parties, and even new devices. The ability to seamlessly and securely connect applications, processes and data from within and also outside your enterprise is vital. Integration is no longer just within the firewall or within the company. It also brings together the multi-speed IT organization.
Kaiser Permanente is a good example of how integration can drive transformation and improve the customer experience. Kaiser Permanente is an integrated, nonprofit health-management consortium serving approximately 9.5 million members in the United States with nearly 40 hospitals and over 600 medical offices. To tell you why and how they did it, let me introduce Terry Cameron. TerryâŚ..

Now Iâd like to share some exciting integration announcements weâre making this week with new support for both on premise and in the cloud
The latest release of IBM Integration Bus offers some key feature enhancements. Reduce the time it takes to produce robust integration solutions with built-in unit testing and new patterns and tutorials that makes development faster and even easier for existing customers and those who are new to IIB
Â
Last week we announced our first messaging appliance that provides all the features of MQ v8 in a physical appliance. The new appliance offers convenience, fast time-to-value, lower cost of ownership, administration ease and two models to suit different userâs requirements. This announcement also complements the recently released MQ Light software and service that offers simplified development of scalable and responsive apps.
Â
IBM DataPower Gateway is the new name of a consolidated, extensible & modular platform. It is available in physical and virtual form factors and provides increased performance & scalability to meet the needs of mission critical applications as well access enforcement via IBM Security Access Management integration.
Â
We have announced the release of our latest version of IBM API Management. API Management enables companies to securely open up their business to a broad developer community via managed APIs. This capability is offered on-premises, within the cloud and now directly in Bluemix. The range of options allows you to manage your APIs in the location that best fits your needs and share those APIs both internally and externally.
Building upon our API Management capabilities we are focused on enabling Hybrid Integration
As you may have heard yesterday, we've just announced the first phase of our Hybrid Integration Services. These services are a new approach to enterprise integration, which bring together the key capabilities required to enable and support your integration requirements in the era of digital transformation. The capabilities included in this first phase are secure connectivity, data refining, API management, cataloging and experimental intuitive search. These services are addressing key trends and challenges in the market such as the convergence of data and application integration, collaboration and re-usability of assets.
Â
My colleague, Don Boulia, will be coming up in a few minutes to talk about Hybrid Integration in more detail.
Â
Â
Along with hybrid integration, you also need a strong application platform
As you can see from these examples, customers are transforming their businesses yet leveraging their IT assets in different ways. We are continuing to invest in technologies that provide a multi-speed IT environment to support transformations at any step along the journey.
Now let me introduce my colleague Don Boulia to talk about hybrid integration.
What does that take to make it happen? The team working on your new mobile app needs access to the data that being created by the people who are updating your contextual sensor to feed to those people who are creating new business processes in the cloud and need to connect with the team doing regular maintenance on your mainframe. How do you make sure you are leveraging all of your assetsâŚhow do you break up work efforts to different team and make sure they can still bring it all back together? All you need is for one of those connects to break, one team to go in a direction that is incompatibleâŚand it all comes down.
The solution? Every part of your organization needs to be united by a single integration platform. Now I donât mean a single solution or a single product, but a single platform that spans both on-premise and cloud integration and brings them together
One that gives you the freedom incorporate new and existing organizations, partners and devices both internal and external to your organization.
One that allows for seamless integration across your application initiatives and your data initiatives enabling you to bring them together easily and virtually invisibly.
One that provides for multi-speed IT operations giving you the best of both worlds and allowing you respond quickly without giving up control.
And there are companies that can offer you cloud integration and there are companies that can offer on-premise integration, but IBM is the only one who can provide both.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
gives you the ability to inteIf you look at integration as the Center of the UniverseâŚas the key that enables you to incorporate across your ecosystemâŚwhat does it take to make this happen.
The trick isâŚthat is hard to do. Because unless you are an organization of 10 people you donât have 1 person working on all of this. You have tens of people working across different projects at different locations with different objectives and different timelines.
What you need is that single integration platform that signifies the convergence of on-premise integration and cloud integration.
On-prem and cloud integration converagance
App and data integration is 2nd convergance (now they donât care). Canât deal with these differently. Integration platform that goes across all of that without hindering the people and the project and allows for 2 speed IT, allows for integration across internal and external boundariesâŚgiving you the speed and freedom to innovate. (get with Brandon to see if they have that slide). Would have to 3 to 4 bullets on whay we are special allows collaboration and the magic the shock absorber of 2 speed IT (allows for collaboration across all of thisâŚ.the people, the data, the shock absorber of speed of IT. We are going to make this secure enterprise grade without the speed hinderence (all the tradition and knowledge of products and bringing that into the new way of intergrating).
Use personas a little bit (go to the next level): developers, with IT Managers with sales, with marketing;
Why two speed IT is because our end customers have changed the way the sell from through a person to through a device. That device is responsible for providing the personalzed service that used to be from a person. The analytics on what I buy and what I like to buy needs to come from SoR to where where you are (context and SoI) and combine that real time data to my phone to make me feel special. Create new engagement models, ânew market of oneâ.
Bringing all the things on slide 23 together is where the magic happens with an integration (new way). Collabroation between people and data and records with one integration platform to do it.
Collaboration needs to be emphasis to keep up with the pace of change.
Start small and growthâŚand scale
Micro services â do we work this in.
The concept of collaborating across your ecosystem is expanding the concept of integration. When you look at those three things, systems of insight, systems of engagement and systems of record; it used to be that all three of those pillars were fully encompassed by your organization and behind your firewall. The world has now changedâŚnew partners, new markets, new connected devices mean that new opportunities require a new organization. Now value is created by leveraging your systems of record, and combing that with systems of insight that come from partners and sensors around the world, and providing services through not only your systems of engagement, and not only the systems of engagement of your partners, but through 3rd party organizations that you may have no relationship to. But they are using your business services, and they are representing your organization. And they may be opening up new business opportunities for you that never existed before.
So that is what we mean when we say hybrid organizations. Organizations that span their traditional boundaries and are constantly looking to drive business value through integration with innovative partners where the line becomes blurred between where organizations start and end. It is the ability to be in constant contact and be continually connected with the sensors and devices that provide context and insight no matter where you are or what you are doing. Success is determined by those who can quickly integrate, provide value, learn, and then integrate again. This isnât something you do onceâŚit is a constant evolution.
-----------------------------------------
We need to collaborate because use the aspects of Data, Cloud, Engagement, and IoT differently. How a 1 developer working on IoT sees data vs. 1 creating new apps in the cloud sees data might differ very drastically. But they still need to come together. And frankly it is not all bad. Because if you look at some of the leading organizations and where they are going they are realizing that they may not have the ability to be all things to all people
This need to collaborate is extending beyond the or
A Single integration platform means the ability to integrate application projects and data projects quickly and easily. And today this is critical because your end customers have changed the way they shop and the way they buy from through a person to through a device. But that device is still expected to provide the personalized services that they are used to getting from a real person. So in order to make that work the analytics on what a customer buys and what they like to buy needs to come from your SoR; integration with your SoI to provide the context of where they are and combine that with the ability to interact through their mobile deviceâŚall with the end goal of making the customer feel special and knowing what they want before they even do.
Look at the IT projects that are required to make something like that happen. They canât be done by one personâŚthey canât be done by one team. To achieve the speed of development you need to be able to break this up across initiatives. But when you break it upâŚyou need to bring it back together. That means consistency in how you integration to accelerate how you get to market.
Your end goal is create an experience that is so targeted, is so personal, that you know your customers better than they know themselves. And they feel they are the only thing that matters to you. We call it creating the market of one. And in a digital world where people want personal touchâŚit is what is going to differentiate you from your competition.
