- So, how do we identify the high risk wards? Risk levels can be estimated for each part of Cheshire, Halton and Warrington and highlighted in colour coded maps using the rapid risk calculator. This information can also be used to show the penetration level of HSAs in high risk wards, plus % of over 65 in an area. The calculator uses the Predicted Rate of Dwelling Fire Injury per million population that uses based on the following census data: Lone parent with dependent child(ren) Never Worked Ethnic minority background (Calculated by GreenStreet Burman) ADF: Accidental Dwelling Fire IMD: Index of Multiple Deprivation

- The contact assessment is the first stage of the Single Assessment Process (SAP) which is a national initiative to ensure that every over 65 year old is assessed for needs such as mobility aids, meals on wheels, or support with tasks such as shopping or gardening. Since the scheme launched in 2008, CFRS have made over 12,000 referrals A target of 5000 contact assessments per annum is in the Local Area Agreement Now delivering to all four unitary areas (originally CE and CWAC, now Warrington and Halton too)
- Age Concern processed 2454 requests for support from CFRS, ranging from requests for information to specific support requests such as help with financial management and the provision of benefits. From 2454 contact assessments completed 891 clients (36%) received direct action or support from Age Concern as part of their âSupporting Youâ programme. A recent survey conducted by Age Concern found that clients who have received support from Age Concern had used or intended to use the following services in response to the referral. Therefore the outcome in relation to our assessments amounts to the following: cleaning - 23%, shopping - 20%, transport - 30%, mobility equipment - 32%, personal care -15%, home maintenance -24%, pendant alarm/telecare - 29% and meal delivery - 9%. 60% of residents felt happier following the support they received at home (statistics provided by Age Concern)
- Proud for our partnership to recognised through a national E-Government award in January 2010 Acronym SPRINGBOARD stands for (Starting a Proactive Response, Introducing New Gains, Benefiting Older-people and Reducing Dependency) O n 19th January, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service won an award for Innovation in Strategy at a Local Level at the hotly contested E-Government Excellence Awards, held at the Guildhall in the City of London. The award was presented for the Serviceâs SPRINGBOARD Project, which centres on the delivery of Home Safety Assessments (HSAs) for the over 65s.
