Un buon CV è chiaro, conciso e focalizzato sui punti importanti del profilo professionale richiesto. Un CV è una rassicurazione per un potenziale datore di lavoro, e la opportunitaà di spuntare le caselle giuste per un colloquio di lavoro. I datori di lavoro, che ricevono continuamente dozzine di curriculum vitae, non leggono interamente un CV, molti decidono in base alle informazioni di alcune sezioni. D’altro lato i responsabili delle risorse umane impiegano sempre meno tempo per analizzare i profili dei candidati. In conclusione attenersi a una pagina di carta in formato A4. Nella scrittura del CV si raccomanda di utilizzare le linee guida del discorso dell’ascensore (elevator pitch) - tipo di discorso e forma di comunicazione con cui ci si presenta, per motivi professionali, ad un'altra persona o organizzazione. L'elevator pitch è infatti il discorso che un imprenditore farebbe ad un investitore se si trovasse per caso con lui in ascensore. L'imprenditore si troverebbe costretto a descrivere sé stesso e la propria attività sinteticamente, chiaramente ed efficacemente per convincere l'investitore ad investire su di lui, ma nei limiti di tempo imposti dalla corsa dell'ascensore (da 30 secondi a 2 minuti). Il discorso dell’ascensore è considerato come un documento da aggiornare costantemente e "sfoderare" ad ogni buona occasione, che sappia "dare valore" ad ogni singola parola. Non si può mai avere una seconda possibilità per fare una buona prima impressione. Ecco perché è necessario essere in grado di presentarsi e rispondere alla domanda "mi parli di lei" in modo chiaro e conciso. L'elevator pitch può essere lo “spot” da utilizzare durante i colloqui di selezione e nel #CV1page.
