Who is a data sexual?
A person who obsessively collects and shares data about his or her own
life to improve self-knowledge and embellish self-presentation.
The datasexual constantly records everything about his or her personal life,
thinking that data -any data about him or herself – is actually sexy. The more
data the better.
Why now?
We know in materially affluent societies, where basic needs are easily met,
human motivation quickly shifts away from what I have to who I am.
The result is a never-ending quest for personal enhancement that can play
out across countless axes: health, formal education, informal skills and
knowledge, creativity, ethics, values and many more.
Trends

on the way the data we share has been evolving
data triviality. We used to share data about special moments and events
in our lives. We now share personal data on increasingly trivial matters
narcissistic tendencies. After the share of commonplace matters,
applications such as Instagram gave us the ability to post pictures of those
daily events as well.

Outlook

for a merged data sexual + quantified self
Collection and analysis of data - using traditional techniques such as
linear regression to establish correlations among the variables under
investigation. To understand potentially high-dimensional data,
visualization techniques can suggest hypotheses that the quantified self
may react on.
Quantified Baby is a branch of the Quantified Self movement that is
concerned with collecting extensive data on a baby's daily activities, and
using this data to make inferences about behaviour and health.

A person who obsessively collects and shares data about his or her own life to improve self-knowledge and embellish self-presentation. The datasexual constantly records everything about his or her personal life, thinking that data -any data about him or herself – is actually sexy. The more data the better.
  • 3. Why now? We know in materially affluent societies, where basic needs are easily met, human motivation quickly shifts away from what I have to who I am. The result is a never-ending quest for personal enhancement that can play out across countless axes: health, formal education, informal skills and knowledge, creativity, ethics, values and many more.
  • 4. Trends
 on the way the data we share has been evolving data triviality. We used to share data about special moments and events in our lives. We now share personal data on increasingly trivial matters narcissistic tendencies. After the share of commonplace matters, applications such as Instagram gave us the ability to post pictures of those daily events as well.
