2. Introduction
Irrigation is an artificial supplying of water to the root of
plants.
The old methods which is use for irrigation are – watering
cans , water channels that have to open or close
manually.
In this case a lot of water is wasted in this process.
An automated irrigation system needs to develop to
optimize water use for agricultural crops.
An intelligent irrigation system has to have all the
components that autonomously monitors or control the
level of water available to the plant without any failure.
4. METHODOLOGY
Irrigation using soil moisture sensors and Microcontroller.
automatically feed plants with water according to their
need without farmer’s interference.
sprinkle the pesticide mixture uniformly in the desired
ratio deserved by the plants automatically
Soil moisture sensors help to know the status of the water
level in the farm.
Solenoid valves for controlling water flow to the farm.
5. IRRIGATION CONTROL SYSTEM
Use for watering the plant
in field.
When all the fields
acquire sufficient water
levels, then the system is
programmed to shut off
the main motor.
6. PESTICIDE CONTROL
this mechanism use for mix and
spray the fertilizers to the plants
in a definite proportion.
two motors are needed in order
to pump the water and
pesticides to a tank where it can
be mixed thoroughly .
7. MICRO-CONTROLLER
Microcontroller ATMEL
89S52 is the heart of the
system.
It is a single chip
Microcomputer with I/O
ports.
It can be used for many
control applications like
motor speed control,
waveform generation etc.
8. SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR
Soil moisture sensors
measure the water
content in soil.
A soil moisture probe is
made up of multiple soil
moisture sensors.
designed to estimate soil
volumetric water content
based on the dielectric
constant of the soil.
9. Solenoid-Valve
It is an electromechanical valve for use with liquid
or gas.
A solenoid is an electromechanical device which
allows for an electrical device to control the flow
of a gas or liquid.
The valve then changes state, either opening or
closing to allow a liquid or gas to either flow
through or be blocked by the solenoid valve.
This is applicable in controlling the hydraulic
actions.
10. LM324 Comparator
It is integrated circuit use as a
motor driver.
Advantages of LM324 Comparator
are :
The LM324 is used as both like
comparator and op-amp
LM324 is a high-gain electronic
voltage amplifier
11. Advantages
Highly sensitive
Work according to the soil condition
Fit and forget system
Low cost and reliable circuit
Complete elimination of manpower
System can be switched into manual mode whenever
required.
12. Disadvantages
There are cost in purchasing , installing and maintaining
automatic equipment.
Sometimes failure will occur.
13. Conclusion
Automatic irrigation control system has been design and
constructed.
The system components are readily available , relatively affordable
and operate quite reliably.
The system help to eliminate the stress of manual irrigation.
The prototype of system worked according to specifications.
