2. great body of salt water comprising all the oceans
and seas that cover nearly three-fourths of the
surface of the earth.
The world ocean covers 71 percent of the earth’s
surface, or about 361 million sq km (140 million sq
mi). Its average depth is 5,000 m (16,000 ft), and its
total volume is about 1,347,000,000 cu km
(322,300,000 cu mi

6. How can the oceans
affect weather?
How is it essential to
Biodiversity?
How is it significant
to mankind?
OCEANS….
7. The ocean regulates the hydrologic or water cycle - Since
this comprises ¾ of the earth’s surface, most amount of
water vapor came from the oceans. The changes in ocean
current may result to weather changes in land.
The ocean serves as intermediary of the winds which help
to circulate air- The surface currents of the ocean are
characterized by large gyres, or currents that are kept in
motion by prevailing winds, but the direction of which is
altered by the rotation of the earth (Coriolis Force). The best
known of these currents is probably the Gulf Stream in the
North Atlantic; the Kuroshio Current in the North Pacific is a
similar current, and both serve to warm the climates of the
eastern edges of the two oceans.

8. The ocean serves as the largest home/shelter of
several marine species.
Because of it’s unique composition and structure, the
marine animals learned to adopt from the extreme
environment.
Provides marine plants that play a crucial role to
mankind.
The marine plants such as phytoplankton and algae
provides much of the world’s oxygen supply and take
in huge amount of carbon dioxide. Thus, the
absorption of this gas is a useful tool in reducing the
severity of climate change.

9. The ocean not just serves as the home of the
wonderful creatures but it also enhances the
characteristics of these animals.
Provides life not only for the marine animals but also
to mankind.
