Cell Defence in Practice
For organisms to survive and stay healthy, they need robust defences
We live in an environment full of ‘non-self’ competitive cells and potentially
damaging molecules
House dust contains around 9,000 types of fungi and bacteria
Our gut contains trillions of microorganisms
We are exposed to toxic and oxidative stress
To meet this challenge, the immune system exists to sense these antigens and
pathogens and protect us from damage and disease …
… utilising its complex collection of specialised organs, tissues, cells and signaling
molecules
On the one hand the immune system is an intelligent system, highly adaptive to the
individual environment and circumstances
On the other, it is a powerful instrument that does not always work to our advantage and
may itself be the root cause of ill-health
Ensuring it deploys its potent weapons with balance and specificity is the great
challenge to optimising immune health
Introduction
4. +
Cell Defence – a matter of balance
We are “under attack” continuously
We have great a defence system in the form of our immune system and antioxidants
Simple diet and lifestyle changes can help to support our defence system
Look after your immune system and it will look after you
5. +
Methylation as a critical aspect of cell defence
Without a functioning methylation cycle, your DNA is not going
to replicate properly
Clean up your diet
“Real foods”
Balance blood sugar levels
Gluten and casein avoidance may be beneficial
Avoid alcohol / stimulants
Plenty of leafy greens and organic liver are good sources of nutrients for optimal
methylation
Support gut health
Reduce factors that deplete methyl groups (alcohol, excess oestrogen, diuretics)
Consider supplementation
Minimise stress levels
