4. ISLAM?
What:
Literally means “surrender” or “submission”
As a faith: requires total and sincere surrender to God.
Why:
So that one can live in peace and tranquility
How:
Achieved through active obedience to the commandments of God
5. What Muslims believe in
A Muslim must believe in the following:
1. God
2. The Angels
3. The Holy Books
4. The Prophets and Messengers
5. The Day of Judgment
6. The Divine Decree of God (Fate)
6. Belief in God
God is ONE
No Partners
No Son or Daughter
The All Powerful and Everlasting
The only one who has the right to be worshipped
7. Belief in the Angels
Created by God from light
Very Powerful
Neither Female or Male
Act precisely according to the orders of God
Many different angels
Have different responsibilities
E.g. The Arch Angles
8. Gabriel: Brought down the revelations from
Allah to the Messengers (including
Muhammad, Jesus and Moses).
Michael: Appointed to deliver sustenance to Allah’s
creatures.
Israfeel: Will blow the horn to commence the Day of
Judgment.
9. Belief in the Books
Muslims believe in all of the original scriptures
revealed by God unto man
Muslims MUST believe in every scripture mentioned in the
Quran and in the Prophetic orations.
These revelations (in their original form) were the word of
God.
10.
11. The scriptures God mentions in the Qur’an are as
follows:
1. The original Scrolls as revealed to Abraham.
2. The original Torah as revealed to Moses.
3. The original Psalms as revealed to David.
4. The original Injeel (Gospel of Jesus) as revealed to
Jesus*.
5. The Qur’an as revealed to Muhammad (which is still
available in its original form).
* The different gospels in today’s Bible were written after the time of
Jesus by other authors. The Injeel mentioned in the Qur’an refers
only to the revelations that came through Jesus, the son of Mary.
12. The Prophets and Messengers
They were merely human beings
Made of flesh and blood
Did NOT share in any part of God’s divinity
Forbidden for Muslims to worship them or use them as
conduits to God
Muslims believe that Prophets and Messengers
are sinless
They may have committed mistakes but they did not sin.
13. Some of the Prophets and Messengers mentioned in the Quran
•Adam
•Noah
•Enoch
•Abraham
•Ishmael
•Issac
•Jacob
•Joseph
•David
•Solomon
•Moses
•Aaron
•Elias
•Jonah
•Lot
•Jesus
14. Belief in the Day of Judgment
Muslims believe in life after death
The body will be physically resurrected and the soul
reunited with it
Just as God gave us life, he can also raise us from the dead
Human beings will stand in front of God
Will be asked to give an account for their deeds in this
worldly life.
“So whosoever does good equal to the weight of a speck of dust shall
see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of speck of dust
shall see it.” [Qur’an 99:6-7]
15. Belief in God’s Divine Decree
God is the All-Knowing
Timeless in nature
Knows everything about the past, present and future
Human beings still have free choice
An important aspect in Islam
Man will always have the choice between right and wrong
Free will does NOT contradict the fact that God is All-Knowing
God’s knowledge of a person’s future decisions or actions does
NOT mean that the person is being “forced” to make that
decision or action.
