TORAH: Genesis: 25:19-28:9
HAFTORAH: Malachi 1:1 to 2:7
B’RIT CHADASHAH: Romans 9:6-16, Hebrews 11:20;
The Hebrew word “Toldot” according to Strong’s or Wikipedia
means: genealogy, generations, chronicles, history, etc.
In Hebrew “Toldot” means more. “Toldot” also includes results,
outcomes and consequences. More than “generations” or
“history”, it means “fruit”. Or perhaps it would be more
accurate to say, “birthings”. The root of “Toldot” (or “toldah” in
the singular) is “leidah” or “birthing”. “Toldah” is the result, the
outcome of a “birthing”. If “leidah” is the act of birthing,
“toldah” is the “fruit” of birthing, or that which is birthed.
There’s a phrase in Judaism; “Toldot’ei’hen shel Tzadukim
massim tovim”, meaning: “The fruit (children) of righteous
people are their good deeds”. Children are not just an
extension of ourselves; nor, just our future, or our heirs. They
are fruit that will bear fruit forever. As you step back in time all
the way back to Isaac and Rebecca, Abraham and Sarah, even
Adam and Eve; we’re all part of one unbroken chain of
“Toldot”, of “birthings” and “fruits.
‫,יהוה‬ manifested in the flesh, inserted Himself in this chain of
“fruit” so that we can be righteous and bear good fruit for
eternity.
2
In the first verse of our parsha this week and in six other
verses, “Toldot” is spelled “Tav-vav-lamed-dalet-tav”. The
word “toldot” appears 39 times in the TaNaK, and with 7
variations in spelling.
In Genesis 2:4, when Torah speaks of the “toldot” (births or
generations) of the heavens and the earth, “toldot” is spelled
“tav-vav-lamed-dalet-vav-tav”. The other variations have
diminished spelling, or omitted letters; that is, until we get to
Ruth 4:18, where the spelling of “toldot” is restored to its full
spelling. In Hebrew thought it is taught that in Torah the
spelling of toldot / generations was diminished after the fall
of man in the Garden of Eden, because the generations of
man were diminished by Adam’s disobedience. Further, it was
restored to its fullness in Ruth 4:18, as it is here, that the
Scriptures detail the toldot / birthing’s leading up to King
David, who is a picture of Mashiach, who restores the fullness
of the generations of man, at His coming. Thus, we have “Tav-
vav-lamed-dalet-vav-tav” as the full expression of
“Generations”.

FROM GENERATION TO GENEARATION ( DOR V’ DOR)
Deut.7:9 “ Because of this, know that YAHWEH
your Elohim, He is Elohim, the faithful El,
keeping the covenant and mercy to those who
love Him, and to those who keep His
commandments, to a thousand generations;”
In our parasha, twin brothers enter the picture and before
they’re even born, it is clear that ‫יהוה‬ has a favourite:
“I have loved you,” said ‫.יהוה‬ “But you asked, ‘In what way
have You loved us?’ “Was not Ěsaw Yaʽaqoḇ’s brother?”
declares ‫.יהוה‬ “And I love Yaʽaqoḇ, but I have hated Ěsaw,
... (Malachi 1:2-3)
Yet, before they were born or had done any good or evil – in
order that the purpose of Elohim, according to choice,
might stand, not of works but of Him who calls – it was said
to her, “The greater shall serve the lesser,” as it has been
written, “Yaʽaqoḇ I have loved, but Ěsaw I have hated.”
(Romans 9:11-13)
Scripture tells us that character traits and purpose can be
set even before birth:
The wrong have been estranged from the womb;
These who speak lies go astray from birth. (Psalms 58:3)
“Before I formed you in the belly I knew you, and before you
came out of the womb I did set you apart – I appointed you a
prophet to nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
So why does Isaac “love Esau”? Why did the aged Isaac seem
to want to bless Esau over Jacob when ‫יהוה‬ “hated Esav”?
To attempt to understand these complicated relationships,
we will begin with Rebecca’s barrenness and her subsequent
pregnancy.
6
And within her the children struggled together, and she said, “If
all is right, why am I this way?” So she went to ask ‫.יהוה‬ And ‫יהוה‬
said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples
shall be separated from your body. And one people shall be
stronger than the other, and the older serve the younger.”
(Genesis 25:22-23)
Now, Rebecca feels a struggle going on within her. She seeks
‫,יהוה‬ as she is naturally worried about what might be happening
within her body.
To “inquire of ‫”יהוה‬ is an expression which, in similar contexts,
refers to an appeal to a prophet to explain the future.
And ‫יהוה‬ tells her that “two nations” are in her womb and that
“two peoples” will be “separated” from her body. Now, the word
used for “nations” here is “goyim”. We know that “goyim”,
Strong’s #1471, means; “nations” or “peoples”. 7
And Yitsḥaq was forty years old when he took Riḇqah as wife, the
daughter of Bethu’ĕl the Aramean of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laḇan
the Aramean. And Yitsḥaq prayed to ‫יהוה‬ for his wife, because she was
barren. And ‫יהוה‬ answered his prayer, and Riḇqah his wife conceived.
(Genesis 25:20-21)
Considering the terrible shame attached to barrenness, Rebecca would
have been on her knees regularly praying. Yet God chose not to act
until her husband, Isaac, got on board and entreated God on his wife’s
behalf.
Isaac, even though he was not the first-born, was the “child of the
promise” that ‫יהוה‬ gave to Abraham and Sarah. In this parsha we are
introduced to another child that was not the “first-born”; but, the one
chosen by Elohim and given the “promise”.
Isaac was 40 years old when he took Rebecca as his wife. In Hebrew
thought, 40 is the number of learning, trials and testing, as in the 40
years the children of Israel spent in the wilderness. 40 is the numeric
value of the letter Mem, which means “water” or “fountain” as in
“fountain of knowledge” and the “living water”. 8
“Goyim” is spelled “Gimmel-Yud-Yud-Mem”.
•The “Gimmel” is to “lift up” or “bridge”.
•The double “Yud”, as “Yud” is “hand”; making it “two
hands”. Since there were twins born, the two boys (the two
goyim) are the “double yud”.
•“Mem” means “water” or “fountain”, as in “water of the
Word” or “fountain of knowledge and Truth”; both being
euphemisms for Torah.
It took 40 years in the wilderness to learn Torah, and ‫יהוה‬
brought forth “water” (mayim or mem) from the Rock
throughout their journey.
- What we have in “goyim” is “the bridge between the two
hands is Torah”.
These hands are “Israel” and “the world”. So the “Bridge
between Israel and the world”, or “the way the world
becomes Israel” is the “Torah”, the Fountain of Knowledge
and Truth.

“One of the deep mysteries of the Torah is that the natural, apparent
first-born are repeatedly rejected in favor of the true, "spiritual" first-
born. --- Cain was rejected while Abel's sacrifice was accepted.
Japheth was made subordinate to his younger brother,
- Shem; as Shem and his descendants were the "high priests" who
brought knowledge of [Elohim] to the world.
- Ishmael and Esau were rejected in favor of Isaac and Jacob
respectively.
- Later on, Jacob's first-born Reuven was rejected in favor of Levi,
Judah and Joseph.
- Ephraim was given precedence over Menashe. Kehas, the son of
Levi, was given precedence over Levi's first-born, Gershon... and
- Moses attained leadership over the firstborn Aaron, who was three
years his senior. Yet through Aaron's humble, joyous submission to
his younger brother Moses, whose spokesman he became, Aaron
earned the priesthood. Through the balance between the lawgiver
and the priest, the trans generational struggle between brothers
that started with Cain and Abel was brought to a satisfactory
conclusion: as religious service (represented in Aaron) must be
subject to religious law (Moses). Otherwise service turns into
excess.”
But Yaʽaqoḇ said, “Sell me your birthright today.” And Ěsaw said,
“Look, I am going to die, so why should I have birthright?” Then
Yaʽaqoḇ said, “Swear to me today.” And he swore to him, and sold
his birthright to Yaʽaqoḇ. (Genesis 25:31-33)
In the Hebrew, Esau tells Jacob that he has “walked to the point of
death”. It’s interesting that from the Hebrew, this phrase could also
be read to say that “his walk was killing him”.
Because of this price, ‫יהוה‬ hated Esau because he despised his
birthright; it counted for less than a bowl of pottage. The world has
indeed sold its birthright for much less.
Legends of the Jews: In addition, Jacob paid him in coin, and,
besides, he gave him what was more than money, the wonderful
sword of Methuselah, which Isaac had inherited from Abraham and
bestowed upon Jacob..Nor did he fail to have a document made
out, duly signed by witnesses, setting forth that Esau had sold him
the birthright together with his claim upon a place in the Cave of
Machpelah.
12
And the boys grew up. And Ěsaw became a man knowing how to
hunt, a man of the field, while Yaʽaqoḇ was a complete man,
dwelling in tents. (Genesis 25:27)
Here we see that Esau becomes a “hunter” or “tsa’yid”. In fact,
the KJV calls him a “cunning” hunter. The only other person in
scripture that was called a “hunter” was Nimrod in Genesis 10:9.
Esau was also called a man of the “field”, or “sadeh” which
means a “tiller” or “cultivator” of the land, like Cain, Abel’s
brother.
With Jacob we see that he was a “complete” man, or “tamiym”
which means “perfect” or “innocent”, “dwelling in tents”. The
word used here for “tents” is “ohel’im” which means “wilderness
tents” or “Tabernacles”.
The Book of Jasher states that Jacob studied the Word of Elohim
in the tent of Shem (the Melek Tzaddik). However, as we see, this
word is “ohel’im”, plural. The rabbis teach that he also studied in
his father and grandfather’s tent. Jacob was 13 when Abraham
died. He would have learned “severity”, “strength” and
“judgment” in Isaac’s tent and “chesed” or “loving kindness” of
Abraham tent. 13
And by your sword you are to live, and serve your brother. And it
shall be, when you grow restless, that you shall break his yoke
from your neck.” (Genesis 27:40)
Isaac told Esau that he would serve Jacob until Esau became
restless and broke Jacob’s yoke from his neck. Has that happened
yet? Well actually, Esau’s hatred for Jacob’s descendants is shown
throughout Scripture. It was Edom who refused to let the children
of Israel pass through their land while in the wilderness in Exodus
20. However, David (the staff or scepter of Y Jacob) subdued Edom
and made all Edom serve him in 2 Samuel 8.
But, Solomo, David’s son saw them rebel again and “break the
yoke of Ya’aqob from his neck” until this day.
Since then, Edom, or a remnant thereof, has dwelt in Eretz Israel
and warred with the sons of Jacob, even until now.
Revelation 6-19
(The Time of Jacob’s Trouble: Children of Israel vs. (Esau - Islam)
The 3rd division of the Book of Revelation deals with a variety of
subjects. The time period in which the events of Revelation
chapters 6 through 19 occurs during the last 7 years of this present
age known in Jewish eschatology as the “Time of Jacob’s Trouble”.
This present age will reach its culmination at the 2nd coming of the
Messiah. *** Traditional Christian eschatology scholars generally
agree that there will be a period of world persecution of Christians
and Jews during that 7 year period known as the “tribulation
period”. This period as witnessed to in the Book of Revelation also
holds that cataclysmic judgments will be unleashed on mankind in a
last attempt by Jehovah to change the hearts and minds of
disobedient men who are alive at this time. This is the same mode of
operation Jehovah uses through out history.
Repent and return to righteous living, or face the consequences.
Here in Rev 6-19 we find the present age of this world coming to an
end and Jehovah is giving his final warning to return to
righteousness
Isaac in his old age has become blind. Just like the many
in Israel that are blind today. But, ‫יהוה‬ had a plan in this
blindness of Isaac.
- Isaac was not able to tell Israel from the world, Jacob
from Esau; because, like the world Isaac had become
blind. While he sought what the world (Edom) had to
offer, the taste of wild game (the sensual pleasures
of taste, etc), ‫יהוה‬ had other plans.
- Rebecca encouraged Jacob (even said she would bear his
curse, or punishment, if required) to pretend to be Esau in
order to receive the first-born’s blessing, that went along
with the birth-right. She prepared the meal, dressed Jacob
in Esau’s clothing and even put goat skins on his arms and
hands, in order to “circumvent” Isaac’s blessing of Esau.
There’s Jacob’s name again, “Yah’s Supplanter”.
The picture: Israel hidden in Edom’s clothing, hidden in the
world’s clothing, so the blind cannot see him.
“And Ěl Shaddai bless you, and make you bear fruit and increase
you, and you shall become an assembly of peoples, and give you
the blessing of Aḇraham, to you and your seed with you, so that
you inherit the land of your sojournings, which Elohim gave to
Aḇraham.” (Genesis 28:3-4)
The Torah speaks of two sorts of blessings. Rabbi Menachem
Leibtag calls the first one the “bechira” (birthright)– i.e. the
Almighty’s designation of Abraham and his offspring to become
His special nation to inherit His special land. So far we have seen
this “bechira” blessing pass from Abraham to Isaac. It is Elohim
who chooses who will receive the “bechira” blessing, not the birth
father.
A simple blessing is called a “bracha” (blessing). It is a blessing
given by a father prophesying the personal destiny of his sons.
Noah blessed each of his sons, and later we will read the account
of Jacob blessing his 12 sons.
Before Isaac goes, his father gives him the “bechira” blessing.
And there was a scarcity of food in the land, … And ‫יהוה‬
appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Mitsrayim,
live in the land which I command you. “Sojourn in this land.
And I shall be with you and bless you, … And Yitsḥaq sowed
in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold,
and ‫יהוה‬ blessed him. And the man grew great and went
forward until he became very great. .. and the Philistines
envied him. (Genesis 26:1-14)
Unbothered by a severe drought, he sowed his dry fields in
faith, and he reaped a hundred fold return! It has been
correctly said that the harvest of the planter depends more
on the favor and goodness of ‫יהוה‬ than in the excellence of
the seed and skill of the ploughman.
I planted, Apollos watered, but Elohim was giving growth. So
neither he who plants nor he who waters is any at all, but
Elohim who gives the increase. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7).
- Isaac became very great and prospered despite difficulties
and the surrounding Philistines became very envious.
And the Philistines had stopped up all the wells
which his father’s servants had dug in the days of
Aḇraham his father, and filled them with dirt.
(Genesis 26:15)
The association between "Philistine" and“Barbarian” is fitting, for the Philistines represent thevery opposite of Chesed, which was the attribute of Elohim that drove Abraham’s life. The numerical value of the Hebrew letters of Philistim (Fey - 80, lamed - 30, shin - 300, tav - 400, yud - 10, mem -40) is 860. 86 is the numerical value of the letters of the divine name Elohim, alluding to Gevurah, might, power, limitation and concealment. The Philistines equal 10 x 86, which represent the forces of limitation and concealment multiplied and in full array.
The Philistines had stopped up all the wells which
his father’s servants had dug in the days of
Abraham his father, and filled them with dirt. The
Philistines closed up the very sources of the living
waters of spirituality with earthliness and gross
materialism. Rashi points out that the Targum of
the word "closed up" has the connotation of
"closing up the heart" with insensitivity and
foolishness.

Why is restoration necessary?
We are Israel. Every person who chooses to follow YHVH and His ways
are part of His people, His chosen ones. Even gentile believers are
grafted into Israel(Rom 11:17). When Israel left Egypt, they were
joined by a “mixed multitude” (Ex 12:38). This “mixed multitude” was
to be obedient to YHVH Elohim, thus following the identical
instructions. There is one Torah for all (Num15:16,29). Likewise, it is for
us: if we choose to follow the one true Elohim, we are to be obedient
to His instructions. However, if we are not, we shall suffer the
consequences. These are described in Lev 26 and Deut 28.
- Israel was disobedient and as a result they were taken into
captivity. This disobedience and the consequences thereof is
depicted by the life of the prophet Hosea. Gomer – his ever straying
wife- is a picture of Israel, who strays from her “husband” YHVH.
The consequence of this is well described in the book of Hosea.
- There will be a wall build against her (Israel) so that she cannot find
her paths.
- Her (Israel) feasts, new moons and Sabbaths were all put to an end.
This is what happened to us. We have lost the true way.
Why is restoration necessary?
Lamentations 2:6
6 And He has violently treated His tabernacle like a
garden booth; He has destroyed His appointed meeting place.
YHVH has caused to be forgotten
The appointed feast and sabbath in Zion,
And He has despised king and priest
In the indignation of His anger.
- We are in exile; we have lost our calendar and our feasts as a
result of our disobedience. YHVH has caused us to forget our
appointed feasts and Sabbaths. We are the banished ones
spoken of in Deut 30:1.
- However, there is hope! If we return to YHVH and obey Him
with all our heart and all our soul, all that we are
commanded, we will be restored from captivity. YHVH will
gather us from the ends of the earth and restore us back to
the land. It is a promise made to us in Deuteronomy 30:1-5.
Deuteronomy 30:1–5
1 “So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the
blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to
mind in all nations where YHVH your Elohim has banished you, 2 and you
return to YHVH your Elohim and obey Him with all your heart and soul
according to all that I command you today, you and your sons, 3 then
YHVH your Elohim will restore you from captivity, and have compassion
on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where YHVH your
Elohim has scattered you. 4 “If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth,
from there YHVH your Elohim will gather you, and from there He will
bring you back. 5 “YHVH your Elohim will bring you into the land which
your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will prosper you
and multiply you more than your fathers.
- This passage speaks to us and about us. We, being in captivity, must
first return to YHVH through the repentance of our sins and the sins of
our fathers. We must then return to the ancient paths. The paths He
has established before the foundation of the earth. What are the
ancient paths? The ancient paths are YHVH’s instructions, His Torah.
We are given the choice to return to YHVH in obedience.
Jeremiah 6:16 “the Ancient Paths” THE WAY
16 Thus says YHVH, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for
the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will
not walk in it.’
- By obeying the commandments here in the Diaspora, we
are returning to His ancient ways. We are showing our
Father our willingness to obey Him. In Deut 30:2 it is
written that we are to obey Him with all our heart and
soul according to all He commanded us.
- This to me is the key. If we obey with our heart and our
soul all that He commanded us, we do it to the very best
of our limited ability. We shouldn’t employ human
reasoning when it comes to His commands. We should
obey His Word in humility.
- LAW VS THEORY VS HYPOTHESIS
All the commandments were given to us as instructions by
our loving Father. Obeying YHVH with all our heart and soul
is to us a surrender of all our human reasoning. Having an
obedient heart is having a keen heart to do whatever He
would have us do.
Even the commandments that are difficult to do, because
we don’t live in the land. We won’t be able to do everything
perfect, but we can do, what we could, with a willing heart.
- Why do we try to reason away His instructions? Isn’t that
a rebellious heart? I have experienced it in my own life.
- Whenever something new is revealed to me, I would
attempt to find ways not to do it.
- I would try to reason it away. It is human nature.
For we know that the Torah is Spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under
sin. For what I work, I know not. For what I wish, that I do not
practise, but what I hate, that I do. But if I do what I do not wish, I
agree with the Torah that it is good. And now, it is no longer I that
work it, but the sin dwelling in me. For I know that in me, that is in
my flesh, dwells no good. For to wish is present with me, but to
work the good I do not find. For the good that I wish to do, I do not
do; but the evil I do not wish to do, this I practise. And if I do that
which I do not wish, it is no longer I who work it, but the sin
dwelling in me. I find therefore this law, that when I wish to do the
good, that the evil is present with me. For I delight in the Torah of
Elohim according to the inward man, but I see another law in my
members, battling against the Torah of my mind, and bringing me
into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched
man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death?
Thanks to Elohim, through ‫יהושע‬ Messiah our Master! So then, with
the mind I myself truly serve the Torah of Elohim, but with the flesh
the law of sin. (Romans 7:14-25)
Who restores?- From the Scriptures, we see that YHVH does
the restoration work. Many times the phrase “restores
fortunes” is used. This term means to restore from captivity.
The word fortunes: 8654 ‫בּות‬ ְׁ‫ש‬( šeḇûṯ): n.fem.; ≡ Str 7622;
captivity, i.e., the state of being captured, implying control
and oppression, and often reside in another place such as a
prison or another country (Jer 29:14 ; Jer 30:3; Jer 31:23; Jer
33:7; fortunes, assets, i.e., primarily possessions, materials,
and propertyYHVH restores us, our souls, back to Him if we
repent (Ps 23:3, Lam 1:16).- The restoration process is as
follows: When we repent of our sins and the sins of our
fathers, YHVH will restore our souls, He will restore us back
to Him. This will be followed by a process of restoration of
righteousness as we grow in obedience. This restoration of
righteousness will ultimately result in the restoration of our
captivity, and He will restore us back to the land.
When will the restoration process commence ?
- From the Scripture, we learn that the restoration process will
commence after repentance. True repentance is from the heart. I
found two very profound passages describing the process of
repentance and return to YHVH. The context of the first passage
is when King Josiah discovered the book of the covenant. He
read it and repented. After he repented he shared it with the
people and they all obeyed. Notice how King Josiah uses almost
the same words (2 Kin 23:3)used as in Deut 30:2: “we are to obey
Him with all our heart and soul according to all He commanded
us” 2 Kings 22:19
19 because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself
before YHVH when you heard what I spoke against this place and
against its inhabitants that they should become a desolation and
a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I
truly have heard you,” declares YHVH.
2 The king went up to the house of YHVH and all the men of
Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the
priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and
great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of
the covenant which was found in the house of YHVH. 3 The king
stood by the pillar and made a covenant before YHVH, to walk
after YHVH, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies
and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to carry out
the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all
the people entered into the covenant. 2 Kings 23:2–3
This, to me is a beautiful picture of what we also experienced.
After realizing that we have been living in lawlessness due to the
false teachings we have grown up with, we repented. We then
started learning how our Heavenly Father wants to be worshiped
and how we are to live. It is like King Josiah, who discovered the
book of the covenant, likewise; we discovered the book of the
covenant.
Restoration of the Kingdom
When will the final process of restoration of all things
be? Y’shua, during His time on earth, was initiating
another restoration process: the restoration of the
Kingdom. He was healing the sick, resurrecting the dead,
and restoring the sight of the blind. Y’shua’s ministry of
physical restoration was made manifest as a forerunner
of the spiritual restoration that is to take place.
- This commenced with the outpouring of the Ruach ha
Qodesh. This resulted in spiritual restoration.
- The restoration of the blind would henceforth not
only be physical, but also spiritual.
- Slowly, but surely, eyes are being opened for Abba’s
truth.
However, there is something else to consider. It is said
in Matthew 17:11 that Eliyah is to come and restore all
things.
Matthew 17:11
11 And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will
restore all things;
John the Baptist came in the spirit of Eliyah and called
everybody to repentance before Y’shua’s first coming.
Luke 1:16–17
16 “And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to YHVH
their Elohim. 17 “It is he who will goas a forerunner before
Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of
the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the
attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people
prepared for YHVH.”
The final restoration of all things would be in the same way.
Elijah would restore all things. What does this “restoring of all
things” mean? Is it a calling back to repentance like John the
Baptist did? I do think so. With the coming of John the Baptist,
this prophecy in Malachi was partly fulfilled. It could not have
been the final fulfillment because it says “before the coming of
the great and terrible day of YHVH”. That points to a future
fulfillment.
Malachi 4:5–6
5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the
coming of the great and terrible day of YHVH. 6 “He will restore the
hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children
to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a
curse.”
*** Then Y’shua will come and restore the Kingdom. He will restore
our calendar, our feasts and teach us how it was intended to be
observed.
Acts 3:17–21
17 “And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as
your rulers did also. 18 “But the things which Elohim announced
beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that
His Anointed would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 “Therefore
repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of
YHVH; 20 and that He may send Y’shua, the Anointed appointed for
you, 21 whom heaven must receive until theperiod of restoration of
all things about which Elohim spoke by the mouth of His holy
prophets from ancient time.
Acts 15:16–18
16 ‘After these things I will return, And I will rebuild the tabernacle
of David which has fallen, And I will rebuild its ruins, And I will
restore it, 17 So that the rest of mankind may seek YHVH, And all the
Gentiles who are called by My name,’ 18 Says YHVH, who makes
these things known from long ago.
Conclusion
Restoration is a twofold process. It is, firstly, a personal restoration
back to YHVH and to His ways. This process starts with a repentant
heart. Out of repentance and regret will come forth a deep yearning
to do the will of our Father. We shall grieve about the appointed
feasts. The reproach of exile will be a burden upon us. This
describes to me where we are now. We are longing to know YHVH’s
perfect way and we are hoping to be returning to the land.
Zephaniah 3:18
18 “I will gather those who grieve about the appointed feasts— They
came from you, O Zion; Thereproach of exile is a burden on them.
Secondly, it is the restoration of the Kingdom. We are the living
stones that will be used to rebuild the Kingdom. Each of us has to
be restored first before the Kingdom is be restored with Y’shua as
the chief cornerstone.
1 Peter 2:4–10
4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but
is choice and precious in the sight of Elohim, 5 you also, as living stones, are
being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual
sacrifices acceptable to Elohim through Y’shua Messiah.6 For this is contained
in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone,
And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 7 This precious value,
then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which
the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,” 8 and, “A stone of
stumbling and a rock of offense”; for they stumble because they are
disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. 9 But
you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
for Elohim’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of
Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you
once were not a people, but now you are the people of Elohim; you had not
received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Lamentations 5:21
21 Restore us to You, O YHVH, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of
old,
- Similarities between the weekly Sabbath and the Sabbatical year.
The weekly Sabbath is on the seventh day of the week and the
Sabbatical year is the seventh year in a week of years.
- Both of these commandments are test commandments as well as rest
commandments.
When we observe the weekly Sabbath, we are to abstain from all work.
- In the sabbatical year the land must rest in the same way. We are not
to sow our land or prune our vineyard or olive grove, the land must
rest.
NO sowing, harvesting or pruning. YHVH confirms it with the words
“we are to let the land lie fallow” Exodus 23:10–11
10 “You shall sow your land for six years and gather in its
yield, 11 but on the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, so
that the needy of your people may eat; and whatever they leave the
beast of the field may eat. You are to do the same with your
vineyard and your olive grove.12 “Six days you are to do your work, but
on the seventh day you shall cease from labor so that your ox and your
donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave, as well as your
stranger, may refresh themselves.
FALLOW GROUND and LET IT REST
The Hebrew word “shamat” was translated as “rest.”
H8058 ‫ׁשמט‬ shâmaṭ
A primitive root; to fling down; incipiently to jostle; figuratively to let

have an object be not used, implying a rest for the object, as a figurative
extension of letting fruit or leaves drop off a tree or plant (Ex 23:11+),
note: in context, land is what is not used 3
- Farmers, generally do not follow YHVH’s instructions on how to tend
the land. Greed has driven people to use lots of artificial fertilizers,
herbicides and pesticides. These kill the soil and as a result more of
these chemicals have to be used. The land is not given the time to
rest and rejuvenate. This instruction alone should be enough to
convince us that we cannot have our vegetable garden in the
Sabbatical year. “you shall let it rest and lie fallow.”
- In order for the land to lie fallow, we are to leave it. The Hebrew word
“shamat” was translated as “rest.”

It is written that the land must rest (shamat) and lie fallow
(natas). We have already looked at the definition of “shamat.”
Here is the definition for the word “natas”
Brad Scott wrote a short article on Ps 23:3 which explains it very well:
“The word paths is actually taken from the Hebrew root ‘agol ( ‫עגל‬), which
means to be round or a cycle. Actually, David is using a familiar phrase to
the Hebrew people. He is saying YHVH leads us or guides us in the cycles of
righteousness. The cycles of righteousness refers to the yearly return of the
feasts of YHVH. This is why the closely related word chag ( ‫חג‬) or festival, is
referred to as “making a cycle”. The chaggim are the cyclical holy days, in
which the righteousness of the God of Israel is taught. It is these cycles that
David is referring to. - - There is also a weekly cycle with the sabbath being
the seventh day, a monthly cycle starting with Rosh Chodesh, a seven year
cycle which ends in the Sabbatical year and a 49 year cycle which ends in
the Jubilee year (which is both the 50th year as well as the first year of the
next sabbatical cycle).
*** These are YHVH’s cycles of sanctification.
Sanctification is the process of transformation. YHVH uses these cycles to
teach us to live a set apart life.
We are currently in the fall season of the feast cycle. The next feast is the day of Atonement or Yom
Kippur. Yom Kippur is a solemn day of fasting, introspection and repentance. Every year at this time
YHVH teaches us about repentance. How to return to Him.
National and Personal redemption,
both are required

Difference between open pollination, heirloom and hybrid seeds
The seed of heirloom plants, on the other hand, can be
harvested and sown and will continue to give you vegetables
with the same characteristics as the original plant. There may be
slight variation as the plants tend to adapt, but it does not affect
the yield or the quality of the vegetables.
Hybridization is just another example of how we humans
thought we knew better than YHVH.
YHVH prohibits the mixing of seed.
Leviticus 19:19
19 ‘You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed
together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your
field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon
you of two kinds of material mixed together.
Difference between open pollination, heirloom and hybrid
seeds
YHVH prohibits the mixing of seed.
Leviticus 19:19
19 ‘You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your livestock
breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with
mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come
upon you.
Deuteronomy 22:9
9 “You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, or all
the produce of the seed which you have sown and the increase
of the vineyard will become defiled.
Here is “two kinds of seed” defined by the Hebrew and Aramaic
lexicon of the Old Testament
ִּ‫כ‬‫י‬ ‫ַי‬ ‫א‬‫ְל‬:?ַ‫כְל‬, du., Bauer-L. Heb. 569o; MHeb. forbidden (as in
BHeb.) mating or hybridisation of two different species
What is a hybrid?
In biology a hybrid is a mix of two animals or plants of different
breeds, varieties, species or genera.5
- Hybridization was basically the mixing of seed and thus, not
acceptable according to this commandment.
- We also wrote that we also understand it to mean that we are
to plant the plants in rows. Although planting vegetables in
neat rows make identification easier.
This must be the reason why YHVH prohibited us from mixing
seed, He knew if we did this, we would be destroying our own
food supply.
As we said before, YHVH created all plants to propagate by
themselves. If they don’t, something is wrong. This something is
usually caused by human intervention in this case called
hybridization and genetic manipulation.
I am so glad there were people with the foresight to preserve heirloom
and open pollinated seeds for us. What would we do if all the
companies selling hybrid seed can for some reason not sell seed?
Most farmers rely solely on these seeds. If they were to stop producing
or selling seed, there would be no food to eat. I now understand
hybridization as another way we are being controlled without knowing
it. We can’t harvest our own seed for planting the next year, instead
we have to buy seed every year in order to have success. However, if
we were to sow only heirloom or open pollinated seeds, we will have
seed to harvest and if we leave the seed on the plant, we will have
volunteer crops, but if we use hybrids, we may not.
Here is a quote from a garden forum about the subject.
If the seeds came from hybrid vegetables, there’s no telling what sort of
tomato/squash it’s going to be. As I understand it, a hybrid won’t come
true from seed. The volunteers may have some or more of the
vigor/disease resistance of the hybrid, but also may have none of the
taste, or fruit size/shape, or other desirable characteristics. Then again,
it may. It’s a gamble because you don’t know what you’ll get until
harvest.
The volunteer crops that come up in the Sabbatical year may not be as
organized as we originally planted them, but that is fine. Let it grow where it
sprouted.
There are other advantages to sowing heirloom or open
pollinated seeds.
- The fruit is more tasty and nutritious. It is healthier for us to
eat vegetables from heirloom or open pollinated seed.
- The flowers are open pollinated so we can save our own
seeds and replant. - Heirloom vegetables are less uniform
which means they don’t all ripen at the same time.
- The plants are often more drought and disease resistantSowing heirloom or heritage seed also helps conserve biodiversity. If everybody were to plant only a certain hybrid, it can easily be wiped out by a disease specific to that hybrid. It has happened before and if it happens on a grand scale, our food supply is gone.
** YHVH made plants the way He did because He knows what is
good for us. We changed it because we think we know better, but
we don’t.
If we were to sow only heirloom seeds in the sixth year, we will
have volunteer crops during the Sabbatical year.
- This would answer the question that was asked a long time ago.
Leviticus 25:20–22
20 ‘But if you say, “What are we going to eat on the
seventh year if we do not sow or gather in our
crops?” 21 then I will so order My blessing for you in
the sixth year that it will bring forth the crop for three
years. 22 ‘When you are sowing the eighth year, you
can still eat old things from the crop, eatingthe
old until the ninth year when its crop comes in.
Let’s just have a look what this word “crop” means.
Does it only refer to grains only?

What is the Kingdom of God?
In current times we look at the scripture and the phrases "Kingdom of
God" and Kingdom of Heaven" and think the first is talking about a
kingdom on earth and the second a kingdom in the heavens. This is
not the case. As a Jew, Y’shua was saying the same thing with both
phrases.
The use of Kingdom of Heaven was a way of avoiding saying the name
of God. The same is the case when we say, "Heaven help me!" Don't
we really mean "God help me?"
In order to know Y’shua the man we must know the people of the
time. The Pharisees used the term "Kingdom of Heaven" and so Y’shua
used this term and goes further in talking about what the Kingdom is
like.
*** Have you ever noticed that today we hear a lot about Jesus in our
churches but very little about the Kingdom of God? Why do you think
that is? (lack of understanding)
There are four basic elements of a Kingdom:
- A territory (the earth)
- A people (the physical inhabitants of the earth)
- A constitution or rules by which to govern (the
Scriptures)
- An authority (King Messiah and His saints) [Daniel 7:13-14, 18]
*** The Kingdom of heaven mentioned in Matthew’s gospel
is the same as the Kingdom of God.[Matt. 19:23-24]
When Y’shua talks about the Kingdom He is talking about:
A Person - the King is a person and He is that person
A Power and A Process - when you think about the Kingdom, think
about the power of the Holy Spirit which is actively working in your
life. The Kingdom is also a process. Sometimes things happen quickly;
other times they take what seems like forever. God will only break in
on your life when there is a humble and broken heart. When you
"own" the King then you are the king. ** But when the King "owns"
you there is a big difference in one's perspective and how one acts.
A People - The Kingdom is a people over whom God reigns with
redemptive power. Just because you call upon His name doesn't
necessarily mean you are in His Kingdom. You need to be continually
focusing on Him and His will. You need to get rid of those things that
come between you and God. If you don't they will become what you
worship instead of God.
THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND ITS COVENANT
THE LAND
THE PEOPLE
THRU THE SCRITURES (Beginning with the Torah)
The Kingdom was first mentioned in scripture in Exodus 15.
The Rabbis say this is the begining of the Kingdom of God. It
is important to remember that He is King only over those
who submit to him. This does not change the fact that He is
the creator of all of us who will judge all the people, but the
Kingdom is only for those who are subjects of the King. It
wasn't until Israel said "Yes" to God that He became their
King. And it was not based upon the good works of the
Jewish people, it was based upon their acceptance of the
covenant and its reqirements. You don't have to accept God
as the creator and judge... It is true but you don't have to
accept it! If you want into the Kingdom, you have to accept
the responsibilities that come with it.
Because my people have forgotten me, they have
burned incense to vanity, and they have caused
them to stumble in their ways from the ancient
paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up; To
make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing;
every one that passes there shall be astonished, and
wag his head. I will scatter them as with an east
wind before the enemy; I will show them the back,
and not the face, in the day of their calamity."
Jeremiah 18:15-17

road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Religion is

INDIVIDUAL AND NATIONAL REPENTANCE (Phils)
Our journey in life is part of a cycle.
Everything in life is cyclical.
Just look at nature – the cycle of life… we are born into this world, we
grow up and we grow old and we die. Our life can be meaningful or
meaningless. Our choices determine which one it would be.
*** In the Scripture there are also different cycles:
cycles of righteousness and cycles of unrighteousness even cycles of
punishment.
*** We choose which of these cycles apply to our lifes.
We can choose obedience to YHVH – learning from His cycles of
righteousness and live a meaningful life or choose disobedience and
live with the consequences.
- The world is currently starting to experience the consequences of
disobedience to YHVH – YHVH is calling us to return to Him! The cycles of
righteousness are YHVH’s cycles.
Brad Scott wrote a short article on Ps 23:3 which explains it very well:
“The word paths is actually taken from the Hebrew root ‘agol ( ‫עגל‬), which
means to be round or a cycle. Actually, David is using a familiar phrase to

YHVH teaches us about repentance. How to return to Him.
Nothing is impossible to YHVH, He hears us when we pray, but
sometimes He chooses not to….If we are disobedient to Him,
He may not answer our prayers.
*** We are given instructions in the Scripture as to how we
are to live. We are to be obedient to His instructions. These
instructions are His commandments.
We can choose to be obedient to YHVH out of love for Him.
- We can’t attain salvation by doing it, but it is like a child who
is obedient to his parents out of love for them. They will still
love him whether or not he obeys. There is however a penalty
for being disobedient…
YHVH is our loving Father and He is calling us back to Him. He
is full of grace, loving-kindness, truth and justice. (Ex 34:6-7)
YHVH does not tolerate sin, but He has compassion on us
when we return to Him. He goes so far as to call us back to
Him. Joel 2:12–14
Joel 2:12–14
12 “Yet even now,” declares YHVH, “Return to Me with all your
heart, And with fasting, weeping and mourning; 13 And rend
your heart and not your garments.” Now return to YHVH
your Elohim, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to
anger, abounding in lovingkindness And relenting of
evil. 14Who knows whether He will not turn and relent and
leave a blessing behind Him, even a grain offering and a drink
offering for YHVH your Elohim?
*** We are even told by YHVH how we are to return to Him.
We are to confess our sin with genuine sincerity and turn
away from our wrong ways and obey Him. He will forgive us
and restore us back to Him. He will even bless us. Verse 14
refers to the possibility of YHVH having pity and relenting and
even blessing them with crops enough to present an offering
to Him.

Article II Section 1 of the Constitution states that:
SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES – DEFILED LAND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
What defiled land looks like according to scripture
and how it can be cleansed. ***
For the purpose of the study we need to understand the
concept of spiritual principles.
By spiritual principles, I mean spiritual truth, you may also
call it spiritual laws. ***
YHVH has put certain spiritual principles in place.
*** One example is how obedience will bring about
blessing, while disobedience will bring about a curse.
This is a spiritual principle.
- A spiritual principle is in actual fact, truth we find in the
Scripture, something YHVH has said or commanded.
“If you have the faith of a mustard seed, you will be able to
move a mountain.” That is another spiritual principle.
What you sow, you will reap and many more.
These spiritual principles are always at work, it can
be compared to weather science.
Certain weather conditions will always cause
cloudy conditions or much wind.
*** In the physical realm, which is interlinked with
the spiritual realm, certain actions or conditions of
our hearts will bring about certain conditions in
our lives.
- Keep this in mind as you study with us.
We first need to understand what defilement is.
What is defilement?
What is defilement in the Holy Scriptures?
There are many references to defilement in scripture. The
Hebrew word that was translated as defiled or polluted is
“tame”
3237 I. ‫א‬ ֵ‫מ‬ ָ‫ט‬ (ṭā·mē(ʾ)): v.; ≡ Str 2930; TWOT 809—1. LN 53.33–

4:14+); (hitp) make oneself unclean, defile oneself (Lev 11:24);
(hotpaal) be defiled (Dt 24:4+); 2. LN 88.271–88.282 (nif) improper sexual behavior, formally, defiled, i.e., initiate or receive improper sexual contact, and so be socially and ceremonially defiled (Nu 5:13),note: for another parsing in Mic 2:10,see 32392
The Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary defines it well:
Uncleanness or impurity is basically defined as that which is a threat to
or opposes holiness, and hence must be kept separate from that
sphere.3
This is a good practical definition. Defilement and holiness cannot exist
together. Holiness is opposed by defilement. YHVH commanded us to
be holy, because He is holy. ***
Leviticus 20:26
26 ‘Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I YHVH am holy; and I
have set you apart from the peoples to be Mine.
- Defilement or uncleanness can be caused by
natural human processes like marital relations, a
woman’s monthly cycle, childbirth, certain illnesses
and contact with a dead person. It can also be
caused by improper sexual relations and idolatry
for example, in short sin.
- We will for the purpose of clarity refer to this as
defilement or spiritual uncleanness and
- normal human processes as uncleanness or ritual
uncleanness.
The earth belongs to YHVH.
Psalm 24:1 The earth is YHVH’s, and all it contains, The world,
and those who dwell in it.
We, human beings are stewards of all that is on the earth.
After YHVH created the earth and everything on it, He said it
was good. HE then instructed Adam and Eve to be stewards of
it. YHVH gave man dominion over all that was on the earth.
Elohim blessed them; and Elohim said to them, “Be fruitful and
multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish
of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living
thing that moves on the earth.”- Genesis 1:28
- YHVH didn’t give them the earth, He instructed them to rule
over it. That is stewardship. Good stewardship involves
obedience and brings about blessing while bad stewardship
involves disobedience and corrupt the earth and defiles it.
- They sinned, which resulted in their expulsion from the
garden. The land also was cursed because of this sin.
In the garden. The land also was cursed because of this sin.
Genesis 3:17–18
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the
voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I
commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is
the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the
days of your life. 18 “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for
you; And you will eat the plants of the field;
*** From this, we already see the principle of disobedience
causing a curse, at work. The ground is still cursed today, it
brings forth thorns and thistles and we have to work very
hard in order to produce food to eat. This doesn’t stop here.
We already have to live with this reality, but land can also
become defiled due to disobedience. There are many
references in Scripture referring to land becoming defiled.**
What defiles the land?
Several causes of defiled land are mentioned in Scripture.
This defilement of the land is spiritual, but manifests itself in
the physical as we will see later. The first cause is idolatry.
Idolatry
Jeremiah 3:9
9 “Because of the lightness of her harlotry, she polluted the
land and committed adultery with stones and trees.
*** Idolatry defiles land. Idolatry is not only practiced when
a statue of wood or stone is physically worshiped,
- but when anything or anyone takes the place of YHVH as
we will see in a future article on strongholds.
Fornication and adultery
Leviticus 18:24–28
24 ‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these
the nations which I am casting out before you have become
defiled. 25 ‘For the land has become defiled, therefore I have
brought its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its
inhabitants. 26 ‘But as for you, you are to keep My statutes and My
judgments and shall not do any of these abominations, neither the
native, nor the alien who sojourns among you 27 (for the men of
the land who have been before you have done all these
abominations, and the land has become defiled); 28 so that the
land will not spew you out, should you defile it, as it has spewed
out the nation which has been before you.
*** The quoted passage is preceded by details about how the
land was defiled by incest, bestiality, sodomy and other sexual
sins. Any sexual immorality will defile the land, including
adultery and fornication.
Land is not only defiled when these sins are
physically practiced, but also when done in the
heart and mind.
A good example of this would be pornography.
Matthew 5:27–28
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not
commit adultery’; 28 but I say to you that
everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her
has already committed adultery with her in his
heart.
The next cause is bloodshed.
Psalm 106:38
38 And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their
daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was polluted with the blood.
*** Bloodshed includes any form of murder or
manslaughter. Abortion is also murder and is a way in which
sons and daughters are sacrificed to the idols of today which
are money, status and lifestyle.
Numbers 35:33–34
33 ‘So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for
blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the
land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of
him who shed it. 34 ‘You shall not defile the land in which you
live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I YHVH am dwelling in
the midst of the sons of Israel.’ ”
Bloodshed of any kind defiles the land. I believe
hatred and bitterness can also defile land, as this
defilement of the land is also spiritual.
Y’shua said:
Matthew 5:21–22
21 “You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You
shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits
murder shall be liable to the court.’ 22 “But I say to you
that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be
guilty before the court; and whoever says to his
brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before
the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall
be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
The fourth curse is the breaking of a covenant.
Breaking a covenant
*** When a covenant is broken, land becomes defiled.
Marriage, for example is a covenant, when this covenant
is broken, the land will become defiled because of this.
Jeremiah 3:1
1 Elohim says, “If a husband divorces his wife And she
goes from him And belongs to another man, Will he still
return to her? Will not that land be completely polluted?
But you are a harlot with many lovers; Yet you turn to
Me,” declares YHVH.
*** Land is defiled in the same way when the covenant
YHVH has with us is set aside by our stubborn
disobedience.
Isaiah 24:5–6
Isaiah 24:5–6
5 The earth is also polluted (defiled) by its
inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated
statutes, broke the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore,
a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it
are held guilty. Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth
are burned, and few men are left.
*** The terms of the covenant was stipulated at
Sinai. When we don’t keep YHVH’s commandments,
we defile the land.
From the section above, we learned what can defile
land. We will next look what defiled land looks like.
What does defiled land look like?
In the section above, we have learned what causes a land to
become defiled. Sin pollutes the land and attract certain
punishments which manifests itself in us and the land.
Fear, illness, depression, lack.
Leviticus 26:16
16 I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a
sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away
the eyes and cause the soul to pine away; also, you will sow
your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up.
*** The land does not yield its produce, and the trees do not
yield fruit
Leviticus 26:20
20 ‘Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not
yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their
fruit.
Deuteronomy 28:38–40
38 “You shall bring out much seed to the field but you will
gather in little, for the locust will consume it. 39 “You shall
plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of
the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worm will devour
them. 40 “You shall have olive trees throughout your territory
but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives
will drop off.
Produce is devoured by worms and fruit drop off…
Deuteronomy 28:42

your ground.

Jeremiah 23:10
10 For the land is full of adulterers; For the land mourns
because of the curse. The pastures of the wilderness have
dried up. Their course also is evil (dysfunctional) And their
might is not right.
What we see above is punishment from YHVH.
Leviticus 18:25
25 ‘For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought
its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its

If there is no repentance, the land will be made desolate.
Jeremiah 12:11
11 “It has been made a desolation, Desolate, it mourns before
Me; The whole land has been made desolate, Because no man
lays it to heart.
Before we look at what this desolation means, we want to
show you that a house can also become defiled.
A Defiled house
The uncleanness spoken of in this passage is supernatural. Take
note it was YHVH who has put a mark of leprosy on the house.
Leviticus 14:33–36
33 YHVH further spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: 34 “When
you enter the land of Canaan, which I give you for a possession,
and I put a mark of leprosy on a house in the land of your
possession, 35then the one who owns the house shall come and tell
the priest, saying, ‘Something like a mark of leprosy has become
visible to me in the house.’ 36 “The priest shall then command that
they empty the house before the priest goes in to look at the mark,
so that everything in the house need not become unclean; and
afterward the priest shall go in to look at the house.
There is a specified ritual involved in cleansing this house and in
some cases breaking it down is the only remedy. What could have
caused this defilement?
When we read the context, we can deduce that this house
belonged to a Caananite. When Israel took possession of the land,
they used the houses that were already there. With this mark
YHVH showed them that the house was defiled. This also proves
that we can be affected by defiled property previously owned by
others as this uncleanness is transferable to the objects and
people in the house.
Leviticus 14:46–47
46 “Moreover, whoever goes into the house during the time that he
has quarantined it, becomes unclean until evening. 47 “Likewise,
whoever lies down in the house shall wash his clothes, and
whoever eats in the house shall wash his clothes.
From this we have learned that land and houses can become
defiled. This defilement is spiritual and cannot be seen. It can be
transferred to those who go into that house as they will become
unclean until evening.
Land defilement does affect the people living there
As we have seen in the section above about the house
becoming defiled, the defilement can be transferred to
objects in the house and to people who may enter the house.
My question, when I started this study was, if we moved into
a new house with a piece of land, can the sins committed by
the previous owners affect us in any way? If they defiled the
land by any of the things we learned about like, idolatry,
bloodshed, sexual sin or breaking a covenant, would it affect
us?
From her and our experience, and from what we have learned
thus far, it confirms that we can be affected by defiled land.
This verse in Leviticus also confirms this.
Leviticus 26:32
32 ‘I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who
settle in it will be appalled over it.
The Dictionary of Biblical Languages gives the following
definition of the word “samen.”
be appalled, horrified, terrified, dismayed, i.e., have an
emotion or attitude of horror and great fear, implying also
dismay and discouragement 2
If I understand the scripture correctly, it seems that
defilement leads to desolation. A land that is made desolate,
is almost uninhabitable by humans. It says here they will be
appalled over it, meaning filled with dread and great fear.
Why is this so? We can speculate about what this means or
we can search some more. Let’s look at what desolated land
entails.
Demons are associated with defiled and desolated land
Demons are associated with defiled and desolated land
Did you know that demons associate themselves with defiled
land? As we said before, we believe that this defilement of
the land is spiritual. In the book of Zechariah, the unclean
spirit from the land is mentioned.
Zechariah 13:2
2 “It will come about in that day,” declares YHVH of hosts,
“that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and
they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the
prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.
We clearly see here the association of unclean spirits where
idolatry is practiced.
In Zephaniah, the desolation of the land is described and how
is has become a resting place for beasts. I used to understand
this as a physical desolation inhabited by wild animals.
However, many other Scriptures supports it to be seen as
Zephaniah 2:15
15 This is the exultant city Which dwells securely, Who says in
her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she
has become a desolation, A resting place for
beasts! Everyone who passes by her will hiss And wave his
hand in contempt.
The Hebrew word for “beasts” is “hayyah”
2651 I. ‫ָה‬‫י‬ ‫חי‬ (ḥǎy·yā(h)): n.fem.; ≡ Str 2416; TWOT 644a—1. LN
4.1 animal, wild beast, i.e., a most general term for an animal,
usually a wild animal, with a focus of a being as living or
animate (Ge 1:24; Nu 35:3); 2. LN 4.1 animal in a revelation,
i.e., a supernatural creature representative in appearance of
several different kinds of creatures (Eze 1:5–10:20 passim)2
It makes logical sense after all, if land is defiled or unclean,
then unclean spirits will or can dwell there. It is as if the
defilement gives them the right or perfect habitat to dwell
there. This also explains the passers-by’s reaction to this
place. Those who pass by will hiss and wave their hands in
contempt. There are a few more references to this and it
seems to support this context. (Jer 18:16 and Jer 19:8)
In Isaiah, land judged by YHVH is described as desolate and
with the desolation, demons are associated.
Isaiah 34:14
14 The desert creatures will meet with the wolves, The hairy
goat also will cry to its kind; Yes, the night monster will settle
there And will find herself a resting place.
When you read this passage, you may understand it to be
literal. However, when you look at the Hebrew words that
were used, this verse could be translated as follows:“The

Revelation 18:2

demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of
every unclean and hateful bird.
The word “prison” in Greek is “phylake” and can also be
translated as “haunt” or “den” or “lair.”
These verses all show us there is a strong association between
desolated land and demons. It seems to work as follows: land
is defiled by sin and sin is judged which results in desolation.
Demons inhabit defiled and desolated land. How do we get
rid of these?
How do we cleanse defiled land?
Before we do anything else, we are to make sure we are in
right standing with YHVH.
We must be cleansed first
Before we even consider doing anything else, we are to be
clean before YHVH. Our own sin can defile our land.
2 Chronicles 7:13–14
13 “If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I
command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence
among My people, 14 and My people who are called by My
name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn
from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will
forgive their sin and will heal their land.
For this reason, we are to ask YHVH to bring to our
remembrance any unrepented sin no matter how
insignificant, in our eyes. We must search ourselves deeply
and repent. It may be something we have done in ignorance
or something we have forgotten to repent of. Any such thing
defiles us and gives demons the opportunity to harass us.
Our homes must be cleansed
After you have done this, go through your home and property
and ask YHVH to show you if you have anything that is an
abomination to Him. This can be African masks or drums,
statues of Baal or Buddha, dream-cathers, books about the
occult, pornographic material, music or dvd’s. If we have dvd’s
in our home that portrays adultery or fornication or any sin in
a positive way, we sanction that and that will give ha satan an
opportunity in our lives. The media we expose ourselves to
have a profound effect on our lives. I recently watched a
program about Media and the brain and it is amazing to see
this confirmed by scientific study.
Anything related to sin, any unclean thing is an abomination
to YHVH. We bring a curse over ourselves when we have
defiled things in our homes. With these things, we also give
demons an opportunity to harass us.
Deuteronomy 7:26
26 “You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and
like it come under the ban; you shall utterly detest it and you
shall utterly abhor it, for it is something banned.
We are to destroy these things, best is to burn it, but any
form of destruction is good. We are, furthermore, to ask for
forgiveness for having these abominable things in our homes.
So, if land is defiled, how can it be cleansed? When Israel
entered the land of Canaan, a land that belonged to heathen
nations, that land must have been defiled by all their
practices. How was the land cleansed?
We know about the procedure that was followed to clean a
house that was defiled and had the mark of leprosy on it. This
procedure is described in Lev 14:49-53. However, this was
done by a Levitical priest, so this is not an option at this point
in time. The Levitical priesthood is an eternal priesthood
So, if we cannot follow what was prescribed, what are we to
do? I believe we can ask YHVH to drive out what needs to be
driven out. We read in Exodus and 2 Chronicles that YHVH has
driven out the inhabitants of the land. These inhabitants will
naturally include physical and spiritual beings.
Exodus 23:29–30
29 “I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that
the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field
become too numerous for you. 30 “I will drive them out before
you little by little, until you become fruitful and take
possession of the land.
This is physical, but also spiritual as the physical and spiritual
are interconnected. When you read this with a spiritual
context in mind, we gain understanding as to how this works.
2 Chronicles 20:7
2 Chronicles 20:7
7 “Did You not, O our Elohim, drive out the inhabitants of this
land before Your people Israel and give it to the descendants
of Abraham Your friend forever?
YHVH has also given His people authority to drive out the
inhabitants of the land. This driving out included the
destruction of anything that had to do with their idol worship
and their pagan ways.
Numbers 33:51–52
51 “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you
cross over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you
shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you,
and destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their
molten images and demolish all their high places;
Deuteronomy 7:5
Deuteronomy 7:5
5 “But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their
altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their
Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.
This is, in my opinion physical, but also spiritual. Demons
attach themselves to anything unclean, and when these
objects are destroyed, they will leave.
Another facet to this cleansing is found in the book of Ezekiel.
YHVH said the following:
Standing in the gap
Ezekiel 22:30
30 “I searched for a man among them who would build up the
wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I
would not destroy it; but I found no one.
“A man who would build up the wall and stand in the
gap…” What does this mean? When we do the article about
Sound the alarm – shofar – YHVH WILL HEAR
We are commanded to sound an alarm with the trumpets
when we go to war against the adversary who attacks us.
Numbers 10:9
9 “When you go to war in your land against the adversary who
attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets,
that you may be remembered before YHVH your Elohim, and
be saved from your enemies.
It is spoken of physical war here. I believe we could do it
when we battle in the spiritual as well. YHVH gave the reason
for doing this: “that you may be remembered before YHVH
your Elohim and be saved from your enemies.”
Two other good examples are found in Judges and Joshua:
Judges 7:18
Judges 7:18
18 “When I and all who are with me blow the trumpet, then
you also blow the trumpets all around the camp and say, ‘For
YHVH and for Gideon.’ ”
Joshua 6:3–4
3 “You shall march around the city, all the men of war circling
the city once. You shall do so for six days. 4 “Also seven priests
shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark; then
on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven
times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
Every day the trumpets were sounded as they walked once
around the city once. On the seventh day they walked around
seven times and the seventh time as the trumpets were
sounded, the people shouted and the walls crumbled.
Every physical battle we find in scripture, is instruction in
strategy for us in spiritual battle. I say this because every
battle is spiritual and physical. Those of the Israelites and
ours. I have not done an intensive study on this, but I believe
if we study the nature of the enemy and how it was
overthrown, we can learn much about spiritual battles. When
you consider the battles in scripture, some were fought
entirely by YHVH, while others were fought by the Israelites.
Let me give you an example. The battle between the Israelites
and Ai, just after Jericho fell. They made two mistakes: they
underestimated the enemy, but more importantly, they had
sin in their midst. Achan took things under the ban. That was
a sin and it caused the Israelites to lose that battle against Ai
(Josh 7:1-26). Righteousness is a prerequisite for victory. It is
the same in spiritual battle, we are not to underestimate our
enemy and we are to have no unrighteousness in us. YHVH’s

The way we understand the cleansing of defiled land is as
follows:
We are to first cleanse ourselves, and remove anything that is
an abomination to YHVH. Then, we are to sound the shofar
and drive out the spiritual inhabitants of the land. We were
given authority in Y’shua to do this. We will go into more
detail about this later. The last step is to stand in the gap and
intercede on behalf of the previous inhabitants, asking
forgiveness of YHVH for any sin that might have been
committed on the property, any bloodshed, broken
covenants, sexual sin or idolatry or anything related to this.
These four categories basically cover most sin.
When we do this the land will be cleansed.
After victory we are to dedicate the house and land to YHVH.
Dedicate your land to YHVH
Dedicate your land to YHVH
To dedicate is to set something apart for sacred use or in
honor of YHVH. The Hebrew word for dedicate is“hanukkah”
2853 ‫ָה‬‫כ‬ֻ‫נ‬ֲ‫ח‬ (ḥǎnǔk·kā(h)): n.fem.; ≡ Str 2598; TWOT 693b—LN
53.44–53.52 dedication, consecration, i.e., an act. of setting
apart something for a sacred use, in honor of God (Nu 7:10,
11, 84, 88; 2Ch 7:9; Ne 12:27; Ps 30:1[EB title]+)2
In Scripture, we read of a special offering that was brought for
the dedication of the altar ( Num 7:10, 11, 84,88) In2 Chron
7:9, we read about the dedication of the Temple. These are
specific sacred places. However, we also read about the
dedication of the wall of Jerusalem.
Nehemiah 12:27
Nehemiah 12:27
27 Now at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought
out the Levites from all their places, to bring them to
Jerusalem so that they might celebrate the dedication with
gladness, with hymns of thanksgiving and with songs to
the accompaniment of cymbals, harps and lyres.
There is also a psalm written by David with a title “dedication
of the house” We do not know which house he was referring
to. It is said that it may be some kind of liturgy for the
dedication of buildings. We do not know for sure. There is a
verse in Deuteronomy that refers specifically to the
dedication of a home.
Deuteronomy 20:5
Deuteronomy 20:5
5 “The officers also shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Who is
the man that has built a new house and has not dedicated it?
Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might
die in the battle and another man would dedicate it.
The Hebrew word “hanak” was also used here.

53.52 (qal) dedicate, consecrate, i.e., a ritual and commitment
to devote a structure to deity or special purpose (Dt 20:5;
1Ki 8:63; 2Ch 7:5+)2
We shall look into how we are to do this in the next section. I
believe it is important to do this. If we have dedicated the
place to YHVH, He has authority there, it belongs to Him.
I understand that doing this would lessen or prevent the
influence of lesser elohims and their demons. These have a
right to the territory because there is a brothel 3km from our
home and a yoga center down the road. This, and the general
defilement of the area give demons the right to dwell there.
When we dedicate our place to YHVH, it will be under His
authority only as long as we don’t defile it with our sin.
We dedicated our land by walking around the perimeter,
blowing the shofar and proclaiming the land for YHVH. We did
this by reading certain Scriptures. We also stood in the gap
and asked forgiveness for sins committed on the property as
YHVH lead us. If you don’t know the history of the place, you
can ask forgiveness for the four sins that defiles land:
bloodshed, sexual immorality, broken covenants and idolatry.
Our next step is to do the same with the house.
Dedication of your home
Dedication of your home
We learned in the previous section that we are to dedicate
our homes. The question is how do we do this? Some people
anoint the doorposts and windows of their homes with oil
while praying over it. Is this scriptural?
There is scriptural proof for anointing the tabernacle and the
objects in it.
Exodus 40:9–10
9 “Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the
tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all
its furnishings; and it shall be holy. 10 “You shall anoint the
altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the
altar, and the altar shall be most holy.
Leviticus 8:10–11
10 Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the
tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. 11 He
Numbers 7:1
1 Now on the day that Moses had finished setting up the
tabernacle, he anointed it and consecrated it with all its
furnishings and the altar and all its utensils; he anointed them
and consecrated them also.
The tabernacle was a sacred building. I deduce, based on this
that we can anoint our homes and so set it apart to YHVH. It
is important to remember that there is no special power in
this anointing. All power is from YHVH. We cannot sin and
then anoint our homes and think it will remedy the situation,
repentance is what is required when we sin. I read a
testimony of a man who watched a horror movie, this scared
him so much he had to sleep with his light on. The horrible
images stayed with him. The next day he decided to anoint his
home to get rid of the demons, but YHVH showed him that he
was to repent of watching that movie and ask YHVH to
Leviticus 14:51
51 “Then he shall take the cedar wood and the hyssop and the
scarlet string, with the live bird, and dip them in the blood of
the slain bird as well as in the running water, and sprinkle the
house seven times.
This procedure can only be done by a priest. The reason I am
showing this is to show that a cleansing ritual was prescribed
in this case. I do not see any harm in anointing your home
with oil while dedicating it to YHVH as long as you remember
that there is no special power in the oil. It is YHVH that
cleanses, not the oil.
After the cleansing and dedication, we are to make sure we
do not bring cursed objects into our homes and we are to live
our lives in purity and holiness. That means we are to keep
the commandments.
Keep YHVH’s commandments
Keep YHVH’s commandments
When we don’t keep YHVH’s commandments, we defile
ourselves and these unclean spirits gain a right to return to
afflict us. We see this in the Bible. When Israel strayed from
YHVH these “nations” returned to afflict them.
These commandments include the land Sabbath. The earth
belongs to YHVH, and we are for this reason, to keep the land
Sabbath wherever we are. It is very interesting how Israel
kept the sabbatical year after they entered the land. That was
no coincidence. We have written a few posts on how this
commandment is a test of faithfulness. The next sabbatical
year starts in Aviv 2016. Heed this call. The Sabbatical year is
not to be spiritualized, it is a literal commandment that we
are to keep.
Leviticus 26:34–35
Leviticus 26:34–35
34 ‘Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the
desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land
will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 ‘All the days
of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not
observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it.
Keeping YHVH’s commandments will ensure that YHVH keeps
that protective hedge around us that protects us. We will still
be tested, that is part of being a believer, but at least we will
not be afflicted as a result of our sin.
Conclusion
We have learned in this study that land can become defiled
by sin, especially idolatry, sexual immorality, broken
covenants and bloodshed. When land becomes defiled, it
attracts YHVH’s punishment, which will make it desolate.
Defiled and desolate land is inhabited by unclean spirits,
We can, however, cleanse the land and we have shown you
how to do that. After the cleansing, we are to dedicate the
property to YHVH and we are to live in obedience to Him. We
are to be very vigilant and not allow any defilement in our
lives or homes.
Let us not be destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Hosea 4:6
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…
You can read this whole passage in Hosea 4:1-19. This passage
addresses the priests whom we supposed to teach the people
to keep YHVH’s commandments, but didn’t. They were as a
result of this destroyed. YHVH employ different means to do
this. So, when we choose disobedience over obedience, we
will also be destroyed. Spiritual defilement brings destruction.
Micah 2:10
Micah 2:10
10 “Arise and go, For this is no place of rest Because of the
uncleanness that brings on destruction, A painful destruction.
Spiritual defilement will result in punishment. YHVH does not
punish us to get back at us for doing evil, but to get us to
return to Him. We are to make the right choices, we are to
cleanse ourselves and our homes and live pure and righteous
lives.

Avraham said to the servant who had served him the longest,
who was in charge of all he owned, "Put your hand under my
thigh; because I want you to swear by Adonai, God of heaven
and God of the earth, that you will not choose a wife for my son
from among the women of the Kena`ani, among whom I am
living; but that you will go to my homeland, to my kinsmen, to
choose a wife for my son Yitz'chak." The servant replied,
"Suppose the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land. Must
I then bring your son back to the land from which you came?"
Avraham said to him, "See to it that you don't bring my son back
there. Adonai, the God of heaven — who took me away from my
father's house and away from the land I was born in, who spoke
to me and swore to me, 'I will give this land to your descendants'
— he will send his angel ahead of you; and you are to bring a
wife for my son from there. But if the woman is unwilling to
follow you, then you are released from your obligation under my
oath. Just don't bring my son back there." The servant put his
hand under the thigh of Avraham his master and swore to him
concerning the matter. (Genesis 24:2-9 CJB) 147
It was the father’s duty to provide the bride for his son. Isaac was
thirty-seven years old when his mother died and had waited
upon his father to see when a bride would appear. Notice Isaac
did not take charge of his own life by going about seeking his
own bride. It was the responsibility of the father.
You did not choose Me, but I chose you (John 15:16).
Abraham chose his eldest servant for this very delicate job of
finding a bride for Isaac. Even though the servant’s name was
not mentioned in this whole story, it has always been
understood the servant was Eliezer (Genesis 15:2).
As was the custom when swearing an oath, the servant placed
his hand under Abraham’s thigh, thus validating his oath to him.
The thigh represented the seed of that person. If an oath were
broken or violated, then the issued children from that seed
would avenge the act of disloyalty (Genesis 24:2-9). Because
YHVH had led Abraham out of the spiritual filth of Babylon he no
way wanted Isaac to go back to what he had left behind.
148
Now why would Abraham insist on a wife for Isaac from the same
idolatrous culture that he had once been commanded to abandon?
Surely there were many faithful and available converts in his camp,
which had grown to at least several hundred.
Bereshith 9:25-27 Then he said: "Cursed be Canaan; A servant of
servants he shall be to his brethren.“ And he said: "Blessed be YHVH ,
The Elohim of Shem, And may Canaan be his servant. May Elohim
enlarge Japheth, And may he dwell in the tents of Shem; And may
Canaan be his servant."
The curse of Canaan passes down to all generations. This is the reason
why Abraham was not willing to consider a Canaanite wife for his son.
Long before this, it was Sarah who had understood that Ishmael could
not qualify as the seed of promise because he was born of a
descendant of Ham (Hagar). Later that son had to be cast out for he
did not carry the seed of promise. For Abraham, staying away from the
Canaanites and creating a line of descendants that was pure, was the
key to inheriting the land.
149
Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and all kinds of gifts
from his master, got up and went to Aram-Naharayim, to Nachor's city.
(Genesis 24:10 CJB)
Eliezer took ten of his master’s camels with him. It is the number of
Divine order; as in the Ten Commandments, the Ten generations from
Adam to Noach and ten more from Noach to Avraham.
Most significant is the idea of Eliezer being a picture of the Ruach
HaKodesh.
(1) Who has quickened and guided the Zionist movement and the
restoration of the Jews to the land of Israel, and
(2) Who the Father has sent to gather from the nations, restore,
equip, and return to the Father's house, the Bride of Messiah
Yeshua. The Spirit is currently restoring many believers, who are in
covenant with YHVH through faith in the blood of Messiah, to the
knowledge of their faith's Hebraic origins, their Israelite identity
and responsibilities, and their heritage of the Spirit and Torah of
YHVH.

Toldot Shmita preparation 21 Nov 2015 Bro. Aike MLTC

  • 1. TORAH: Genesis: 25:19-28:9 HAFTORAH: Malachi 1:1 to 2:7 B’RIT CHADASHAH: Romans 9:6-16, Hebrews 11:20;
  • 2. The Hebrew word “Toldot” according to Strong’s or Wikipedia means: genealogy, generations, chronicles, history, etc. In Hebrew “Toldot” means more. “Toldot” also includes results, outcomes and consequences. More than “generations” or “history”, it means “fruit”. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say, “birthings”. The root of “Toldot” (or “toldah” in the singular) is “leidah” or “birthing”. “Toldah” is the result, the outcome of a “birthing”. If “leidah” is the act of birthing, “toldah” is the “fruit” of birthing, or that which is birthed. There’s a phrase in Judaism; “Toldot’ei’hen shel Tzadukim massim tovim”, meaning: “The fruit (children) of righteous people are their good deeds”. Children are not just an extension of ourselves; nor, just our future, or our heirs. They are fruit that will bear fruit forever. As you step back in time all the way back to Isaac and Rebecca, Abraham and Sarah, even Adam and Eve; we’re all part of one unbroken chain of “Toldot”, of “birthings” and “fruits. ‫,יהוה‬ manifested in the flesh, inserted Himself in this chain of “fruit” so that we can be righteous and bear good fruit for eternity. 2
  • 3. In the first verse of our parsha this week and in six other verses, “Toldot” is spelled “Tav-vav-lamed-dalet-tav”. The word “toldot” appears 39 times in the TaNaK, and with 7 variations in spelling. In Genesis 2:4, when Torah speaks of the “toldot” (births or generations) of the heavens and the earth, “toldot” is spelled “tav-vav-lamed-dalet-vav-tav”. The other variations have diminished spelling, or omitted letters; that is, until we get to Ruth 4:18, where the spelling of “toldot” is restored to its full spelling. In Hebrew thought it is taught that in Torah the spelling of toldot / generations was diminished after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, because the generations of man were diminished by Adam’s disobedience. Further, it was restored to its fullness in Ruth 4:18, as it is here, that the Scriptures detail the toldot / birthing’s leading up to King David, who is a picture of Mashiach, who restores the fullness of the generations of man, at His coming. Thus, we have “Tav- vav-lamed-dalet-vav-tav” as the full expression of “Generations”. 3
  • 4. FROM GENERATION TO GENEARATION ( DOR V’ DOR) Deut.7:9 “ Because of this, know that YAHWEH your Elohim, He is Elohim, the faithful El, keeping the covenant and mercy to those who love Him, and to those who keep His commandments, to a thousand generations;”
  • 5. In our parasha, twin brothers enter the picture and before they’re even born, it is clear that ‫יהוה‬ has a favourite: “I have loved you,” said ‫.יהוה‬ “But you asked, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ “Was not Ěsaw Yaʽaqoḇ’s brother?” declares ‫.יהוה‬ “And I love Yaʽaqoḇ, but I have hated Ěsaw, ... (Malachi 1:2-3) Yet, before they were born or had done any good or evil – in order that the purpose of Elohim, according to choice, might stand, not of works but of Him who calls – it was said to her, “The greater shall serve the lesser,” as it has been written, “Yaʽaqoḇ I have loved, but Ěsaw I have hated.” (Romans 9:11-13)
  • 6. Scripture tells us that character traits and purpose can be set even before birth: The wrong have been estranged from the womb; These who speak lies go astray from birth. (Psalms 58:3) “Before I formed you in the belly I knew you, and before you came out of the womb I did set you apart – I appointed you a prophet to nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5) So why does Isaac “love Esau”? Why did the aged Isaac seem to want to bless Esau over Jacob when ‫יהוה‬ “hated Esav”? To attempt to understand these complicated relationships, we will begin with Rebecca’s barrenness and her subsequent pregnancy. 6
  • 7. And within her the children struggled together, and she said, “If all is right, why am I this way?” So she went to ask ‫.יהוה‬ And ‫יהוה‬ said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your body. And one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older serve the younger.” (Genesis 25:22-23) Now, Rebecca feels a struggle going on within her. She seeks ‫,יהוה‬ as she is naturally worried about what might be happening within her body. To “inquire of ‫”יהוה‬ is an expression which, in similar contexts, refers to an appeal to a prophet to explain the future. And ‫יהוה‬ tells her that “two nations” are in her womb and that “two peoples” will be “separated” from her body. Now, the word used for “nations” here is “goyim”. We know that “goyim”, Strong’s #1471, means; “nations” or “peoples”. 7
  • 8. And Yitsḥaq was forty years old when he took Riḇqah as wife, the daughter of Bethu’ĕl the Aramean of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laḇan the Aramean. And Yitsḥaq prayed to ‫יהוה‬ for his wife, because she was barren. And ‫יהוה‬ answered his prayer, and Riḇqah his wife conceived. (Genesis 25:20-21) Considering the terrible shame attached to barrenness, Rebecca would have been on her knees regularly praying. Yet God chose not to act until her husband, Isaac, got on board and entreated God on his wife’s behalf. Isaac, even though he was not the first-born, was the “child of the promise” that ‫יהוה‬ gave to Abraham and Sarah. In this parsha we are introduced to another child that was not the “first-born”; but, the one chosen by Elohim and given the “promise”. Isaac was 40 years old when he took Rebecca as his wife. In Hebrew thought, 40 is the number of learning, trials and testing, as in the 40 years the children of Israel spent in the wilderness. 40 is the numeric value of the letter Mem, which means “water” or “fountain” as in “fountain of knowledge” and the “living water”. 8
  • 9. “Goyim” is spelled “Gimmel-Yud-Yud-Mem”. •The “Gimmel” is to “lift up” or “bridge”. •The double “Yud”, as “Yud” is “hand”; making it “two hands”. Since there were twins born, the two boys (the two goyim) are the “double yud”. •“Mem” means “water” or “fountain”, as in “water of the Word” or “fountain of knowledge and Truth”; both being euphemisms for Torah. It took 40 years in the wilderness to learn Torah, and ‫יהוה‬ brought forth “water” (mayim or mem) from the Rock throughout their journey. - What we have in “goyim” is “the bridge between the two hands is Torah”. These hands are “Israel” and “the world”. So the “Bridge between Israel and the world”, or “the way the world becomes Israel” is the “Torah”, the Fountain of Knowledge and Truth. 9
  • 10. 10
  • 11. “One of the deep mysteries of the Torah is that the natural, apparent first-born are repeatedly rejected in favor of the true, "spiritual" first- born. --- Cain was rejected while Abel's sacrifice was accepted. Japheth was made subordinate to his younger brother, - Shem; as Shem and his descendants were the "high priests" who brought knowledge of [Elohim] to the world. - Ishmael and Esau were rejected in favor of Isaac and Jacob respectively. - Later on, Jacob's first-born Reuven was rejected in favor of Levi, Judah and Joseph. - Ephraim was given precedence over Menashe. Kehas, the son of Levi, was given precedence over Levi's first-born, Gershon... and - Moses attained leadership over the firstborn Aaron, who was three years his senior. Yet through Aaron's humble, joyous submission to his younger brother Moses, whose spokesman he became, Aaron earned the priesthood. Through the balance between the lawgiver and the priest, the trans generational struggle between brothers that started with Cain and Abel was brought to a satisfactory conclusion: as religious service (represented in Aaron) must be subject to religious law (Moses). Otherwise service turns into excess.”
  • 12. But Yaʽaqoḇ said, “Sell me your birthright today.” And Ěsaw said, “Look, I am going to die, so why should I have birthright?” Then Yaʽaqoḇ said, “Swear to me today.” And he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Yaʽaqoḇ. (Genesis 25:31-33) In the Hebrew, Esau tells Jacob that he has “walked to the point of death”. It’s interesting that from the Hebrew, this phrase could also be read to say that “his walk was killing him”. Because of this price, ‫יהוה‬ hated Esau because he despised his birthright; it counted for less than a bowl of pottage. The world has indeed sold its birthright for much less. Legends of the Jews: In addition, Jacob paid him in coin, and, besides, he gave him what was more than money, the wonderful sword of Methuselah, which Isaac had inherited from Abraham and bestowed upon Jacob..Nor did he fail to have a document made out, duly signed by witnesses, setting forth that Esau had sold him the birthright together with his claim upon a place in the Cave of Machpelah. 12
  • 13. And the boys grew up. And Ěsaw became a man knowing how to hunt, a man of the field, while Yaʽaqoḇ was a complete man, dwelling in tents. (Genesis 25:27) Here we see that Esau becomes a “hunter” or “tsa’yid”. In fact, the KJV calls him a “cunning” hunter. The only other person in scripture that was called a “hunter” was Nimrod in Genesis 10:9. Esau was also called a man of the “field”, or “sadeh” which means a “tiller” or “cultivator” of the land, like Cain, Abel’s brother. With Jacob we see that he was a “complete” man, or “tamiym” which means “perfect” or “innocent”, “dwelling in tents”. The word used here for “tents” is “ohel’im” which means “wilderness tents” or “Tabernacles”. The Book of Jasher states that Jacob studied the Word of Elohim in the tent of Shem (the Melek Tzaddik). However, as we see, this word is “ohel’im”, plural. The rabbis teach that he also studied in his father and grandfather’s tent. Jacob was 13 when Abraham died. He would have learned “severity”, “strength” and “judgment” in Isaac’s tent and “chesed” or “loving kindness” of Abraham tent. 13
  • 14. And by your sword you are to live, and serve your brother. And it shall be, when you grow restless, that you shall break his yoke from your neck.” (Genesis 27:40) Isaac told Esau that he would serve Jacob until Esau became restless and broke Jacob’s yoke from his neck. Has that happened yet? Well actually, Esau’s hatred for Jacob’s descendants is shown throughout Scripture. It was Edom who refused to let the children of Israel pass through their land while in the wilderness in Exodus 20. However, David (the staff or scepter of Y Jacob) subdued Edom and made all Edom serve him in 2 Samuel 8. But, Solomo, David’s son saw them rebel again and “break the yoke of Ya’aqob from his neck” until this day. Since then, Edom, or a remnant thereof, has dwelt in Eretz Israel and warred with the sons of Jacob, even until now.
  • 15. Revelation 6-19 (The Time of Jacob’s Trouble: Children of Israel vs. (Esau - Islam) The 3rd division of the Book of Revelation deals with a variety of subjects. The time period in which the events of Revelation chapters 6 through 19 occurs during the last 7 years of this present age known in Jewish eschatology as the “Time of Jacob’s Trouble”. This present age will reach its culmination at the 2nd coming of the Messiah. *** Traditional Christian eschatology scholars generally agree that there will be a period of world persecution of Christians and Jews during that 7 year period known as the “tribulation period”. This period as witnessed to in the Book of Revelation also holds that cataclysmic judgments will be unleashed on mankind in a last attempt by Jehovah to change the hearts and minds of disobedient men who are alive at this time. This is the same mode of operation Jehovah uses through out history. Repent and return to righteous living, or face the consequences. Here in Rev 6-19 we find the present age of this world coming to an end and Jehovah is giving his final warning to return to righteousness
  • 16. Isaac in his old age has become blind. Just like the many in Israel that are blind today. But, ‫יהוה‬ had a plan in this blindness of Isaac. - Isaac was not able to tell Israel from the world, Jacob from Esau; because, like the world Isaac had become blind. While he sought what the world (Edom) had to offer, the taste of wild game (the sensual pleasures of taste, etc), ‫יהוה‬ had other plans. - Rebecca encouraged Jacob (even said she would bear his curse, or punishment, if required) to pretend to be Esau in order to receive the first-born’s blessing, that went along with the birth-right. She prepared the meal, dressed Jacob in Esau’s clothing and even put goat skins on his arms and hands, in order to “circumvent” Isaac’s blessing of Esau. There’s Jacob’s name again, “Yah’s Supplanter”. The picture: Israel hidden in Edom’s clothing, hidden in the world’s clothing, so the blind cannot see him.
  • 17. “And Ěl Shaddai bless you, and make you bear fruit and increase you, and you shall become an assembly of peoples, and give you the blessing of Aḇraham, to you and your seed with you, so that you inherit the land of your sojournings, which Elohim gave to Aḇraham.” (Genesis 28:3-4) The Torah speaks of two sorts of blessings. Rabbi Menachem Leibtag calls the first one the “bechira” (birthright)– i.e. the Almighty’s designation of Abraham and his offspring to become His special nation to inherit His special land. So far we have seen this “bechira” blessing pass from Abraham to Isaac. It is Elohim who chooses who will receive the “bechira” blessing, not the birth father. A simple blessing is called a “bracha” (blessing). It is a blessing given by a father prophesying the personal destiny of his sons. Noah blessed each of his sons, and later we will read the account of Jacob blessing his 12 sons. Before Isaac goes, his father gives him the “bechira” blessing.
  • 18. And there was a scarcity of food in the land, … And ‫יהוה‬ appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Mitsrayim, live in the land which I command you. “Sojourn in this land. And I shall be with you and bless you, … And Yitsḥaq sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold, and ‫יהוה‬ blessed him. And the man grew great and went forward until he became very great. .. and the Philistines envied him. (Genesis 26:1-14) Unbothered by a severe drought, he sowed his dry fields in faith, and he reaped a hundred fold return! It has been correctly said that the harvest of the planter depends more on the favor and goodness of ‫יהוה‬ than in the excellence of the seed and skill of the ploughman. I planted, Apollos watered, but Elohim was giving growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is any at all, but Elohim who gives the increase. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). - Isaac became very great and prospered despite difficulties and the surrounding Philistines became very envious.
  • 19. And the Philistines had stopped up all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Aḇraham his father, and filled them with dirt. (Genesis 26:15) The association between "Philistine" and“Barbarian” is fitting, for the Philistines represent thevery opposite of Chesed, which was the attribute of Elohim that drove Abraham’s life. The Philistines had stopped up all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, and filled them with dirt. The Philistines closed up the very sources of the living waters of spirituality with earthliness and gross materialism. Rashi points out that the Targum of the word "closed up" has the connotation of "closing up the heart" with insensitivity and foolishness.

  • 34.
  • 35. Why is restoration necessary? We are Israel. Every person who chooses to follow YHVH and His ways are part of His people, His chosen ones. Even gentile believers are grafted into Israel(Rom 11:17). When Israel left Egypt, they were joined by a “mixed multitude” (Ex 12:38). This “mixed multitude” was to be obedient to YHVH Elohim, thus following the identical instructions. There is one Torah for all (Num15:16,29). Likewise, it is for us: if we choose to follow the one true Elohim, we are to be obedient to His instructions. However, if we are not, we shall suffer the consequences. These are described in Lev 26 and Deut 28. - Israel was disobedient and as a result they were taken into captivity. This disobedience and the consequences thereof is depicted by the life of the prophet Hosea. Gomer – his ever straying wife- is a picture of Israel, who strays from her “husband” YHVH. The consequence of this is well described in the book of Hosea. - There will be a wall build against her (Israel) so that she cannot find her paths. - Her (Israel) feasts, new moons and Sabbaths were all put to an end. This is what happened to us. We have lost the true way.
  • 36. Why is restoration necessary? Lamentations 2:6 6 And He has violently treated His tabernacle like a garden booth; He has destroyed His appointed meeting place. YHVH has caused to be forgotten The appointed feast and sabbath in Zion, And He has despised king and priest In the indignation of His anger. - We are in exile; we have lost our calendar and our feasts as a result of our disobedience. YHVH has caused us to forget our appointed feasts and Sabbaths. We are the banished ones spoken of in Deut 30:1. - However, there is hope! If we return to YHVH and obey Him with all our heart and all our soul, all that we are commanded, we will be restored from captivity. YHVH will gather us from the ends of the earth and restore us back to the land. It is a promise made to us in Deuteronomy 30:1-5.
  • 37. Deuteronomy 30:1–5 1 “So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where YHVH your Elohim has banished you, 2 and you return to YHVH your Elohim and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons, 3 then YHVH your Elohim will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where YHVH your Elohim has scattered you. 4 “If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth, from there YHVH your Elohim will gather you, and from there He will bring you back. 5 “YHVH your Elohim will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers. - This passage speaks to us and about us. We, being in captivity, must first return to YHVH through the repentance of our sins and the sins of our fathers. We must then return to the ancient paths. The paths He has established before the foundation of the earth. What are the ancient paths? The ancient paths are YHVH’s instructions, His Torah. We are given the choice to return to YHVH in obedience.
  • 38. Jeremiah 6:16 “the Ancient Paths” THE WAY 16 Thus says YHVH, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ - By obeying the commandments here in the Diaspora, we are returning to His ancient ways. We are showing our Father our willingness to obey Him. In Deut 30:2 it is written that we are to obey Him with all our heart and soul according to all He commanded us. - This to me is the key. If we obey with our heart and our soul all that He commanded us, we do it to the very best of our limited ability. We shouldn’t employ human reasoning when it comes to His commands. We should obey His Word in humility. - LAW VS THEORY VS HYPOTHESIS
  • 39. All the commandments were given to us as instructions by our loving Father. Obeying YHVH with all our heart and soul is to us a surrender of all our human reasoning. Having an obedient heart is having a keen heart to do whatever He would have us do. Even the commandments that are difficult to do, because we don’t live in the land. We won’t be able to do everything perfect, but we can do, what we could, with a willing heart. - Why do we try to reason away His instructions? Isn’t that a rebellious heart? I have experienced it in my own life. - Whenever something new is revealed to me, I would attempt to find ways not to do it. - I would try to reason it away. It is human nature.
  • 40. For we know that the Torah is Spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin. For what I work, I know not. For what I wish, that I do not practise, but what I hate, that I do. But if I do what I do not wish, I agree with the Torah that it is good. And now, it is no longer I that work it, but the sin dwelling in me. For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good. For to wish is present with me, but to work the good I do not find. For the good that I wish to do, I do not do; but the evil I do not wish to do, this I practise. And if I do that which I do not wish, it is no longer I who work it, but the sin dwelling in me. I find therefore this law, that when I wish to do the good, that the evil is present with me. For I delight in the Torah of Elohim according to the inward man, but I see another law in my members, battling against the Torah of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death? Thanks to Elohim, through ‫יהושע‬ Messiah our Master! So then, with the mind I myself truly serve the Torah of Elohim, but with the flesh the law of sin. (Romans 7:14-25)
  • 41. Who restores?- From the Scriptures, we see that YHVH does the restoration work. Many times the phrase “restores fortunes” is used. This term means to restore from captivity. The word fortunes: 8654 ‫בּות‬ ְׁ‫ש‬( šeḇûṯ): n.fem.; ≡ Str 7622; captivity, i.e., the state of being captured, implying control and oppression, and often reside in another place such as a prison or another country (Jer 29:14 ; Jer 30:3; Jer 31:23; Jer 33:7; fortunes, assets, i.e., primarily possessions, materials, and propertyYHVH restores us, our souls, back to Him if we repent (Ps 23:3, Lam 1:16).- The restoration process is as follows: When we repent of our sins and the sins of our fathers, YHVH will restore our souls, He will restore us back to Him. This will be followed by a process of restoration of righteousness as we grow in obedience. This restoration of righteousness will ultimately result in the restoration of our captivity, and He will restore us back to the land.
  • 42. When will the restoration process commence ? - From the Scripture, we learn that the restoration process will commence after repentance. True repentance is from the heart. I found two very profound passages describing the process of repentance and return to YHVH. The context of the first passage is when King Josiah discovered the book of the covenant. He read it and repented. After he repented he shared it with the people and they all obeyed. Notice how King Josiah uses almost the same words (2 Kin 23:3)used as in Deut 30:2: “we are to obey Him with all our heart and soul according to all He commanded us” 2 Kings 22:19 19 because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before YHVH when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares YHVH.
  • 43. 2 The king went up to the house of YHVH and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of YHVH. 3 The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before YHVH, to walk after YHVH, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people entered into the covenant. 2 Kings 23:2–3 This, to me is a beautiful picture of what we also experienced. After realizing that we have been living in lawlessness due to the false teachings we have grown up with, we repented. We then started learning how our Heavenly Father wants to be worshiped and how we are to live. It is like King Josiah, who discovered the book of the covenant, likewise; we discovered the book of the covenant.
  • 44. Restoration of the Kingdom When will the final process of restoration of all things be? Y’shua, during His time on earth, was initiating another restoration process: the restoration of the Kingdom. He was healing the sick, resurrecting the dead, and restoring the sight of the blind. Y’shua’s ministry of physical restoration was made manifest as a forerunner of the spiritual restoration that is to take place. - This commenced with the outpouring of the Ruach ha Qodesh. This resulted in spiritual restoration. - The restoration of the blind would henceforth not only be physical, but also spiritual. - Slowly, but surely, eyes are being opened for Abba’s truth.
  • 45. However, there is something else to consider. It is said in Matthew 17:11 that Eliyah is to come and restore all things. Matthew 17:11 11 And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things; John the Baptist came in the spirit of Eliyah and called everybody to repentance before Y’shua’s first coming. Luke 1:16–17 16 “And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to YHVH their Elohim. 17 “It is he who will goas a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for YHVH.”
  • 46. The final restoration of all things would be in the same way. Elijah would restore all things. What does this “restoring of all things” mean? Is it a calling back to repentance like John the Baptist did? I do think so. With the coming of John the Baptist, this prophecy in Malachi was partly fulfilled. It could not have been the final fulfillment because it says “before the coming of the great and terrible day of YHVH”. That points to a future fulfillment. Malachi 4:5–6 5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of YHVH. 6 “He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” *** Then Y’shua will come and restore the Kingdom. He will restore our calendar, our feasts and teach us how it was intended to be observed.
  • 47. Acts 3:17–21 17 “And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. 18 “But the things which Elohim announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Anointed would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of YHVH; 20 and that He may send Y’shua, the Anointed appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive until theperiod of restoration of all things about which Elohim spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. Acts 15:16–18 16 ‘After these things I will return, And I will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen, And I will rebuild its ruins, And I will restore it, 17 So that the rest of mankind may seek YHVH, And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,’ 18 Says YHVH, who makes these things known from long ago.
  • 48. Conclusion Restoration is a twofold process. It is, firstly, a personal restoration back to YHVH and to His ways. This process starts with a repentant heart. Out of repentance and regret will come forth a deep yearning to do the will of our Father. We shall grieve about the appointed feasts. The reproach of exile will be a burden upon us. This describes to me where we are now. We are longing to know YHVH’s perfect way and we are hoping to be returning to the land. Zephaniah 3:18 18 “I will gather those who grieve about the appointed feasts— They came from you, O Zion; Thereproach of exile is a burden on them. Secondly, it is the restoration of the Kingdom. We are the living stones that will be used to rebuild the Kingdom. Each of us has to be restored first before the Kingdom is be restored with Y’shua as the chief cornerstone.
  • 49. 1 Peter 2:4–10 4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of Elohim, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Elohim through Y’shua Messiah.6 For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,” 8 and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense”; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for Elohim’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of Elohim; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Lamentations 5:21 21 Restore us to You, O YHVH, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old,

  • 51. - Similarities between the weekly Sabbath and the Sabbatical year. The weekly Sabbath is on the seventh day of the week and the Sabbatical year is the seventh year in a week of years. - Both of these commandments are test commandments as well as rest commandments. When we observe the weekly Sabbath, we are to abstain from all work. - In the sabbatical year the land must rest in the same way. We are not to sow our land or prune our vineyard or olive grove, the land must rest. NO sowing, harvesting or pruning. YHVH confirms it with the words “we are to let the land lie fallow” Exodus 23:10–11 10 “You shall sow your land for six years and gather in its yield, 11 but on the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, so that the needy of your people may eat; and whatever they leave the beast of the field may eat. You are to do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove.12 “Six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you shall cease from labor so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave, as well as your stranger, may refresh themselves.

Greed has driven people to use lots of artificial fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. These kill the soil and as a result more of these chemicals have to be used. The land is not given the time to rest and rejuvenate. This instruction alone should be enough to convince us that we cannot have our vegetable garden in the Sabbatical year. “you shall let it rest and lie fallow.” - In order for the land to lie fallow, we are to leave it. • 54. Brad Scott wrote a short article on Ps 23:3 which explains it very well: “The word paths is actually taken from the Hebrew root ‘agol ( ‫עגל‬), which means to be round or a cycle. Actually, David is using a familiar phrase to the Hebrew people. He is saying YHVH leads us or guides us in the cycles of righteousness. The cycles of righteousness refers to the yearly return of the feasts of YHVH. This is why the closely related word chag ( ‫חג‬) or festival, is referred to as “making a cycle”. The chaggim are the cyclical holy days, in which the righteousness of the God of Israel is taught. It is these cycles that David is referring to. - - There is also a weekly cycle with the sabbath being the seventh day, a monthly cycle starting with Rosh Chodesh, a seven year cycle which ends in the Sabbatical year and a 49 year cycle which ends in the Jubilee year (which is both the 50th year as well as the first year of the next sabbatical cycle). *** These are YHVH’s cycles of sanctification. Sanctification is the process of transformation. YHVH uses these cycles to teach us to live a set apart life. We are currently in the fall season of the feast cycle. The next feast is the day of Atonement or Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is a solemn day of fasting, introspection and repentance. Every year at this time YHVH teaches us about repentance. How to return to Him.

  • 57. Difference between open pollination, heirloom and hybrid seeds The seed of heirloom plants, on the other hand, can be harvested and sown and will continue to give you vegetables with the same characteristics as the original plant. There may be slight variation as the plants tend to adapt, but it does not affect the yield or the quality of the vegetables. Hybridization is just another example of how we humans thought we knew better than YHVH. YHVH prohibits the mixing of seed. Leviticus 19:19 19 ‘You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.
  • 58. Difference between open pollination, heirloom and hybrid seeds YHVH prohibits the mixing of seed. Leviticus 19:19 19 ‘You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your livestock breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you. Deuteronomy 22:9 9 “You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, or all the produce of the seed which you have sown and the increase of the vineyard will become defiled. Here is “two kinds of seed” defined by the Hebrew and Aramaic lexicon of the Old Testament ִּ‫כ‬‫י‬ ‫ַי‬ ‫א‬‫ְל‬:?ַ‫כְל‬, du., Bauer-L. Heb. 569o; MHeb. forbidden (as in BHeb.) mating or hybridisation of two different species
  • 59. What is a hybrid? In biology a hybrid is a mix of two animals or plants of different breeds, varieties, species or genera.5 - Hybridization was basically the mixing of seed and thus, not acceptable according to this commandment. - We also wrote that we also understand it to mean that we are to plant the plants in rows. Although planting vegetables in neat rows make identification easier. This must be the reason why YHVH prohibited us from mixing seed, He knew if we did this, we would be destroying our own food supply. As we said before, YHVH created all plants to propagate by themselves. If they don’t, something is wrong. This something is usually caused by human intervention in this case called hybridization and genetic manipulation.
  • 60. I am so glad there were people with the foresight to preserve heirloom and open pollinated seeds for us. What would we do if all the companies selling hybrid seed can for some reason not sell seed? Most farmers rely solely on these seeds. If they were to stop producing or selling seed, there would be no food to eat. I now understand hybridization as another way we are being controlled without knowing it. We can’t harvest our own seed for planting the next year, instead we have to buy seed every year in order to have success. However, if we were to sow only heirloom or open pollinated seeds, we will have seed to harvest and if we leave the seed on the plant, we will have volunteer crops, but if we use hybrids, we may not. Here is a quote from a garden forum about the subject. If the seeds came from hybrid vegetables, there’s no telling what sort of tomato/squash it’s going to be. As I understand it, a hybrid won’t come true from seed. The volunteers may have some or more of the vigor/disease resistance of the hybrid, but also may have none of the taste, or fruit size/shape, or other desirable characteristics. Then again, it may. It’s a gamble because you don’t know what you’ll get until harvest.
  • 61. The volunteer crops that come up in the Sabbatical year may not be as organized as we originally planted them, but that is fine. Let it grow where it sprouted. There are other advantages to sowing heirloom or open pollinated seeds. - The fruit is more tasty and nutritious. It is healthier for us to eat vegetables from heirloom or open pollinated seed. - The flowers are open pollinated so we can save our own seeds and replant. - Heirloom vegetables are less uniform which means they don’t all ripen at the same time. ** YHVH made plants the way He did because He knows what is good for us. We changed it because we think we know better, but we don’t. If we were to sow only heirloom seeds in the sixth year, we will have volunteer crops during the Sabbatical year. - This would answer the question that was asked a long time ago.

  • 65. What is the Kingdom of God? In current times we look at the scripture and the phrases "Kingdom of God" and Kingdom of Heaven" and think the first is talking about a kingdom on earth and the second a kingdom in the heavens. This is not the case. As a Jew, Y’shua was saying the same thing with both phrases. The use of Kingdom of Heaven was a way of avoiding saying the name of God. The same is the case when we say, "Heaven help me!" Don't we really mean "God help me?" In order to know Y’shua the man we must know the people of the time. The Pharisees used the term "Kingdom of Heaven" and so Y’shua used this term and goes further in talking about what the Kingdom is like. *** Have you ever noticed that today we hear a lot about Jesus in our churches but very little about the Kingdom of God? Why do you think that is? (lack of understanding)
  • 66. There are four basic elements of a Kingdom: - A territory (the earth) - A people (the physical inhabitants of the earth) - A constitution or rules by which to govern (the Scriptures) - An authority (King Messiah and His saints) [Daniel 7:13-14, 18] *** The Kingdom of heaven mentioned in Matthew’s gospel is the same as the Kingdom of God.[Matt. 19:23-24]
  • 67. When Y’shua talks about the Kingdom He is talking about: A Person - the King is a person and He is that person A Power and A Process - when you think about the Kingdom, think about the power of the Holy Spirit which is actively working in your life. The Kingdom is also a process. Sometimes things happen quickly; other times they take what seems like forever. God will only break in on your life when there is a humble and broken heart. When you "own" the King then you are the king. ** But when the King "owns" you there is a big difference in one's perspective and how one acts. A People - The Kingdom is a people over whom God reigns with redemptive power. Just because you call upon His name doesn't necessarily mean you are in His Kingdom. You need to be continually focusing on Him and His will. You need to get rid of those things that come between you and God. If you don't they will become what you worship instead of God.

It is important to remember that He is King only over those who submit to him. This does not change the fact that He is the creator of all of us who will judge all the people, but the Kingdom is only for those who are subjects of the King. It wasn't until Israel said "Yes" to God that He became their King. And it was not based upon the good works of the Jewish people, it was based upon their acceptance of the covenant and its reqirements. You don't have to accept God as the creator and judge... It is true but you don't have to accept it! If you want into the Kingdom, you have to accept the responsibilities that come with it.

Just look at nature – the cycle of life… we are born into this world, we grow up and we grow old and we die. Our life can be meaningful or meaningless. Our choices determine which one it would be. *** In the Scripture there are also different cycles: cycles of righteousness and cycles of unrighteousness even cycles of punishment. *** We choose which of these cycles apply to our lifes. We can choose obedience to YHVH – learning from His cycles of righteousness and live a meaningful life or choose disobedience and live with the consequences. - The world is currently starting to experience the consequences of disobedience to YHVH – YHVH is calling us to return to Him! The cycles of righteousness are YHVH’s cycles.

Leviticus 20:26 26 ‘Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I YHVH am holy; and I have set you apart from the peoples to be Mine. - Defilement or uncleanness can be caused by natural human processes like marital relations, a woman’s monthly cycle, childbirth, certain illnesses and contact with a dead person. It can also be caused by improper sexual relations and idolatry for example, in short sin. - We will for the purpose of clarity refer to this as defilement or spiritual uncleanness and - normal human processes as uncleanness or ritual uncleanness.
  • 95. The earth belongs to YHVH. Psalm 24:1 The earth is YHVH’s, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. We, human beings are stewards of all that is on the earth. After YHVH created the earth and everything on it, He said it was good. HE then instructed Adam and Eve to be stewards of it. YHVH gave man dominion over all that was on the earth. Elohim blessed them; and Elohim said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”- Genesis 1:28 - YHVH didn’t give them the earth, He instructed them to rule over it. That is stewardship. Good stewardship involves obedience and brings about blessing while bad stewardship involves disobedience and corrupt the earth and defiles it. - They sinned, which resulted in their expulsion from the garden. The land also was cursed because of this sin.
  • 96. In the garden. The land also was cursed because of this sin. Genesis 3:17–18 17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. 18 “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; *** From this, we already see the principle of disobedience causing a curse, at work. The ground is still cursed today, it brings forth thorns and thistles and we have to work very hard in order to produce food to eat. This doesn’t stop here. We already have to live with this reality, but land can also become defiled due to disobedience. There are many references in Scripture referring to land becoming defiled.**
  • 97. What defiles the land? Several causes of defiled land are mentioned in Scripture. This defilement of the land is spiritual, but manifests itself in the physical as we will see later. The first cause is idolatry. Idolatry Jeremiah 3:9 9 “Because of the lightness of her harlotry, she polluted the land and committed adultery with stones and trees. *** Idolatry defiles land. Idolatry is not only practiced when a statue of wood or stone is physically worshiped, - but when anything or anyone takes the place of YHVH as we will see in a future article on strongholds.
  • 98. Fornication and adultery Leviticus 18:24–28 24 ‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled. 25 ‘For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its inhabitants. 26 ‘But as for you, you are to keep My statutes and My judgments and shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native, nor the alien who sojourns among you 27 (for the men of the land who have been before you have done all these abominations, and the land has become defiled); 28 so that the land will not spew you out, should you defile it, as it has spewed out the nation which has been before you. *** The quoted passage is preceded by details about how the land was defiled by incest, bestiality, sodomy and other sexual sins. Any sexual immorality will defile the land, including adultery and fornication.
  • 99. Land is not only defiled when these sins are physically practiced, but also when done in the heart and mind. A good example of this would be pornography. Matthew 5:27–28 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. The next cause is bloodshed.
  • 100. Psalm 106:38 38 And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with the blood. *** Bloodshed includes any form of murder or manslaughter. Abortion is also murder and is a way in which sons and daughters are sacrificed to the idols of today which are money, status and lifestyle. Numbers 35:33–34 33 ‘So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it. 34 ‘You shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I YHVH am dwelling in the midst of the sons of Israel.’ ”
  • 101. Bloodshed of any kind defiles the land. I believe hatred and bitterness can also defile land, as this defilement of the land is also spiritual. Y’shua said: Matthew 5:21–22 21 “You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ 22 “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. The fourth curse is the breaking of a covenant.
  • 102. Breaking a covenant *** When a covenant is broken, land becomes defiled. Marriage, for example is a covenant, when this covenant is broken, the land will become defiled because of this. Jeremiah 3:1 1 Elohim says, “If a husband divorces his wife And she goes from him And belongs to another man, Will he still return to her? Will not that land be completely polluted? But you are a harlot with many lovers; Yet you turn to Me,” declares YHVH. *** Land is defiled in the same way when the covenant YHVH has with us is set aside by our stubborn disobedience. Isaiah 24:5–6
  • 103. Isaiah 24:5–6 5 The earth is also polluted (defiled) by its inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left. *** The terms of the covenant was stipulated at Sinai. When we don’t keep YHVH’s commandments, we defile the land. From the section above, we learned what can defile land. We will next look what defiled land looks like. What does defiled land look like?
  • 104. In the section above, we have learned what causes a land to become defiled. Sin pollutes the land and attract certain punishments which manifests itself in us and the land. Fear, illness, depression, lack. Leviticus 26:16 16 I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the soul to pine away; also, you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up. *** The land does not yield its produce, and the trees do not yield fruit Leviticus 26:20 20 ‘Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit.
  • 105. Deuteronomy 28:38–40 38 “You shall bring out much seed to the field but you will gather in little, for the locust will consume it. 39 “You shall plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worm will devour them. 40 “You shall have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off. Produce is devoured by worms and fruit drop off… Deuteronomy 28:42 42 “The cricket shall possess all your trees and the produce of your ground. Pests…and a purse with holes
  • 106. Pests…and a purse with holes Haggai 1:6 6 “You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.” The ground does not yield Isaiah 5:10 10 “For ten acres of vineyard will yield only one bath of wine, And a homer of seed will yield but an ephah of grain.” Drought…
  • 107. Pests…and a purse with holes Haggai 1:6 6 “You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.”
  • 108. Drought… (EL NINO) Deuteronomy 11:17 17 “Or the anger of YHVH will be kindled against you, and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain and the ground will not yield its fruit; and you will perish quickly from the good land which YHVH is giving you. Jeremiah 23:10 10 For the land is full of adulterers; For the land mourns because of the curse. The pastures of the wilderness have dried up. Their course also is evil (dysfunctional) And their might is not right. What we see above is punishment from YHVH.
  • 109. Leviticus 18:25 25 ‘For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its inhabitants. If there is no repentance, the land will be made desolate. Jeremiah 12:11 11 “It has been made a desolation, Desolate, it mourns before Me; The whole land has been made desolate, Because no man lays it to heart. Before we look at what this desolation means, we want to show you that a house can also become defiled.
  • 110. A Defiled house The uncleanness spoken of in this passage is supernatural. Take note it was YHVH who has put a mark of leprosy on the house. Leviticus 14:33–36 33 YHVH further spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: 34 “When you enter the land of Canaan, which I give you for a possession, and I put a mark of leprosy on a house in the land of your possession, 35then the one who owns the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, ‘Something like a mark of leprosy has become visible to me in the house.’ 36 “The priest shall then command that they empty the house before the priest goes in to look at the mark, so that everything in the house need not become unclean; and afterward the priest shall go in to look at the house. There is a specified ritual involved in cleansing this house and in some cases breaking it down is the only remedy. What could have caused this defilement?
  • 111. When we read the context, we can deduce that this house belonged to a Caananite. When Israel took possession of the land, they used the houses that were already there. With this mark YHVH showed them that the house was defiled. This also proves that we can be affected by defiled property previously owned by others as this uncleanness is transferable to the objects and people in the house. Leviticus 14:46–47 46 “Moreover, whoever goes into the house during the time that he has quarantined it, becomes unclean until evening. 47 “Likewise, whoever lies down in the house shall wash his clothes, and whoever eats in the house shall wash his clothes. From this we have learned that land and houses can become defiled. This defilement is spiritual and cannot be seen. It can be transferred to those who go into that house as they will become unclean until evening.
  • 112. Land defilement does affect the people living there As we have seen in the section above about the house becoming defiled, the defilement can be transferred to objects in the house and to people who may enter the house. My question, when I started this study was, if we moved into a new house with a piece of land, can the sins committed by the previous owners affect us in any way? If they defiled the land by any of the things we learned about like, idolatry, bloodshed, sexual sin or breaking a covenant, would it affect us? From her and our experience, and from what we have learned thus far, it confirms that we can be affected by defiled land. This verse in Leviticus also confirms this.
  • 113. Leviticus 26:32 32 ‘I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled over it. The Dictionary of Biblical Languages gives the following definition of the word “samen.” be appalled, horrified, terrified, dismayed, i.e., have an emotion or attitude of horror and great fear, implying also dismay and discouragement 2 If I understand the scripture correctly, it seems that defilement leads to desolation. A land that is made desolate, is almost uninhabitable by humans. It says here they will be appalled over it, meaning filled with dread and great fear. Why is this so? We can speculate about what this means or we can search some more. Let’s look at what desolated land entails. Demons are associated with defiled and desolated land
  • 114. Demons are associated with defiled and desolated land Did you know that demons associate themselves with defiled land? As we said before, we believe that this defilement of the land is spiritual. In the book of Zechariah, the unclean spirit from the land is mentioned. Zechariah 13:2 2 “It will come about in that day,” declares YHVH of hosts, “that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the prophets and the unclean spirit from the land. We clearly see here the association of unclean spirits where idolatry is practiced. In Zephaniah, the desolation of the land is described and how is has become a resting place for beasts. I used to understand this as a physical desolation inhabited by wild animals. However, many other Scriptures supports it to be seen as
  • 115. Zephaniah 2:15 15 This is the exultant city Which dwells securely, Who says in her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, A resting place for beasts! Everyone who passes by her will hiss And wave his hand in contempt. The Hebrew word for “beasts” is “hayyah” 2651 I. ‫ָה‬‫י‬ ‫חי‬ (ḥǎy·yā(h)): n.fem.; ≡ Str 2416; TWOT 644a—1. LN 4.1 animal, wild beast, i.e., a most general term for an animal, usually a wild animal, with a focus of a being as living or animate (Ge 1:24; Nu 35:3); 2. LN 4.1 animal in a revelation, i.e., a supernatural creature representative in appearance of several different kinds of creatures (Eze 1:5–10:20 passim)2
  • 116. It makes logical sense after all, if land is defiled or unclean, then unclean spirits will or can dwell there. It is as if the defilement gives them the right or perfect habitat to dwell there. This also explains the passers-by’s reaction to this place. Those who pass by will hiss and wave their hands in contempt. There are a few more references to this and it seems to support this context. (Jer 18:16 and Jer 19:8) In Isaiah, land judged by YHVH is described as desolate and with the desolation, demons are associated. Isaiah 34:14 14 The desert creatures will meet with the wolves, The hairy goat also will cry to its kind; Yes, the night monster will settle there And will find herself a resting place. When you read this passage, you may understand it to be literal. However, when you look at the Hebrew words that were used, this verse could be translated as follows:“The

  • 119. Revelation 18:2 2 And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird. The word “prison” in Greek is “phylake” and can also be translated as “haunt” or “den” or “lair.” These verses all show us there is a strong association between desolated land and demons. It seems to work as follows: land is defiled by sin and sin is judged which results in desolation. Demons inhabit defiled and desolated land. How do we get rid of these? How do we cleanse defiled land? Before we do anything else, we are to make sure we are in right standing with YHVH.
  • 120. We must be cleansed first Before we even consider doing anything else, we are to be clean before YHVH. Our own sin can defile our land. 2 Chronicles 7:13–14 13 “If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. For this reason, we are to ask YHVH to bring to our remembrance any unrepented sin no matter how insignificant, in our eyes. We must search ourselves deeply and repent. It may be something we have done in ignorance or something we have forgotten to repent of. Any such thing defiles us and gives demons the opportunity to harass us.
  • 121. Our homes must be cleansed After you have done this, go through your home and property and ask YHVH to show you if you have anything that is an abomination to Him. This can be African masks or drums, statues of Baal or Buddha, dream-cathers, books about the occult, pornographic material, music or dvd’s. If we have dvd’s in our home that portrays adultery or fornication or any sin in a positive way, we sanction that and that will give ha satan an opportunity in our lives. The media we expose ourselves to have a profound effect on our lives. I recently watched a program about Media and the brain and it is amazing to see this confirmed by scientific study. Anything related to sin, any unclean thing is an abomination to YHVH. We bring a curse over ourselves when we have defiled things in our homes. With these things, we also give demons an opportunity to harass us.
  • 122. Deuteronomy 7:26 26 “You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and like it come under the ban; you shall utterly detest it and you shall utterly abhor it, for it is something banned. We are to destroy these things, best is to burn it, but any form of destruction is good. We are, furthermore, to ask for forgiveness for having these abominable things in our homes. So, if land is defiled, how can it be cleansed? When Israel entered the land of Canaan, a land that belonged to heathen nations, that land must have been defiled by all their practices. How was the land cleansed? We know about the procedure that was followed to clean a house that was defiled and had the mark of leprosy on it. This procedure is described in Lev 14:49-53. However, this was done by a Levitical priest, so this is not an option at this point in time. The Levitical priesthood is an eternal priesthood
  • 123. So, if we cannot follow what was prescribed, what are we to do? I believe we can ask YHVH to drive out what needs to be driven out. We read in Exodus and 2 Chronicles that YHVH has driven out the inhabitants of the land. These inhabitants will naturally include physical and spiritual beings. Exodus 23:29–30 29 “I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. 30 “I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land. This is physical, but also spiritual as the physical and spiritual are interconnected. When you read this with a spiritual context in mind, we gain understanding as to how this works. 2 Chronicles 20:7
  • 124. 2 Chronicles 20:7 7 “Did You not, O our Elohim, drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? YHVH has also given His people authority to drive out the inhabitants of the land. This driving out included the destruction of anything that had to do with their idol worship and their pagan ways. Numbers 33:51–52 51 “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you cross over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their molten images and demolish all their high places; Deuteronomy 7:5
  • 125. Deuteronomy 7:5 5 “But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire. This is, in my opinion physical, but also spiritual. Demons attach themselves to anything unclean, and when these objects are destroyed, they will leave. Another facet to this cleansing is found in the book of Ezekiel. YHVH said the following: Standing in the gap Ezekiel 22:30 30 “I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. “A man who would build up the wall and stand in the gap…” What does this mean? When we do the article about
  • 126. Sound the alarm – shofar – YHVH WILL HEAR We are commanded to sound an alarm with the trumpets when we go to war against the adversary who attacks us. Numbers 10:9 9 “When you go to war in your land against the adversary who attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before YHVH your Elohim, and be saved from your enemies. It is spoken of physical war here. I believe we could do it when we battle in the spiritual as well. YHVH gave the reason for doing this: “that you may be remembered before YHVH your Elohim and be saved from your enemies.” Two other good examples are found in Judges and Joshua: Judges 7:18
  • 127. Judges 7:18 18 “When I and all who are with me blow the trumpet, then you also blow the trumpets all around the camp and say, ‘For YHVH and for Gideon.’ ” Joshua 6:3–4 3 “You shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do so for six days. 4 “Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. Every day the trumpets were sounded as they walked once around the city once. On the seventh day they walked around seven times and the seventh time as the trumpets were sounded, the people shouted and the walls crumbled.
  • 128. Every physical battle we find in scripture, is instruction in strategy for us in spiritual battle. I say this because every battle is spiritual and physical. Those of the Israelites and ours. I have not done an intensive study on this, but I believe if we study the nature of the enemy and how it was overthrown, we can learn much about spiritual battles. When you consider the battles in scripture, some were fought entirely by YHVH, while others were fought by the Israelites. Let me give you an example. The battle between the Israelites and Ai, just after Jericho fell. They made two mistakes: they underestimated the enemy, but more importantly, they had sin in their midst. Achan took things under the ban. That was a sin and it caused the Israelites to lose that battle against Ai (Josh 7:1-26). Righteousness is a prerequisite for victory. It is the same in spiritual battle, we are not to underestimate our enemy and we are to have no unrighteousness in us. YHVH’s

  • 131. The way we understand the cleansing of defiled land is as follows: We are to first cleanse ourselves, and remove anything that is an abomination to YHVH. Then, we are to sound the shofar and drive out the spiritual inhabitants of the land. We were given authority in Y’shua to do this. We will go into more detail about this later. The last step is to stand in the gap and intercede on behalf of the previous inhabitants, asking forgiveness of YHVH for any sin that might have been committed on the property, any bloodshed, broken covenants, sexual sin or idolatry or anything related to this. These four categories basically cover most sin. When we do this the land will be cleansed. After victory we are to dedicate the house and land to YHVH. Dedicate your land to YHVH
  • 132. Dedicate your land to YHVH To dedicate is to set something apart for sacred use or in honor of YHVH. The Hebrew word for dedicate is“hanukkah” 2853 ‫ָה‬‫כ‬ֻ‫נ‬ֲ‫ח‬ (ḥǎnǔk·kā(h)): n.fem.; ≡ Str 2598; TWOT 693b—LN 53.44–53.52 dedication, consecration, i.e., an act. of setting apart something for a sacred use, in honor of God (Nu 7:10, 11, 84, 88; 2Ch 7:9; Ne 12:27; Ps 30:1[EB title]+)2 In Scripture, we read of a special offering that was brought for the dedication of the altar ( Num 7:10, 11, 84,88) In2 Chron 7:9, we read about the dedication of the Temple. These are specific sacred places. However, we also read about the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem. Nehemiah 12:27
  • 133. Nehemiah 12:27 27 Now at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites from all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem so that they might celebrate the dedication with gladness, with hymns of thanksgiving and with songs to the accompaniment of cymbals, harps and lyres. There is also a psalm written by David with a title “dedication of the house” We do not know which house he was referring to. It is said that it may be some kind of liturgy for the dedication of buildings. We do not know for sure. There is a verse in Deuteronomy that refers specifically to the dedication of a home. Deuteronomy 20:5
  • 134. Deuteronomy 20:5 5 “The officers also shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Who is the man that has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would dedicate it. The Hebrew word “hanak” was also used here. 2852 ‫יְך‬‫נ‬ ָ‫ח‬ (ḥā·nǎḵ): v.; ≡ Str 2596; TWOT 693—1. I believe it is important to do this. If we have dedicated the place to YHVH, He has authority there, it belongs to Him.
  • 135. I understand that doing this would lessen or prevent the influence of lesser elohims and their demons. These have a right to the territory because there is a brothel 3km from our home and a yoga center down the road. This, and the general defilement of the area give demons the right to dwell there. When we dedicate our place to YHVH, it will be under His authority only as long as we don’t defile it with our sin. We dedicated our land by walking around the perimeter, blowing the shofar and proclaiming the land for YHVH. We did this by reading certain Scriptures. We also stood in the gap and asked forgiveness for sins committed on the property as YHVH lead us. If you don’t know the history of the place, you can ask forgiveness for the four sins that defiles land: bloodshed, sexual immorality, broken covenants and idolatry. Our next step is to do the same with the house. Dedication of your home
  • 136. Dedication of your home We learned in the previous section that we are to dedicate our homes. The question is how do we do this? Some people anoint the doorposts and windows of their homes with oil while praying over it. Is this scriptural? There is scriptural proof for anointing the tabernacle and the objects in it. Exodus 40:9–10 9 “Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all its furnishings; and it shall be holy. 10 “You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, and the altar shall be most holy. Leviticus 8:10–11 10 Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. 11 He
  • 137. Numbers 7:1 1 Now on the day that Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed it and consecrated it with all its furnishings and the altar and all its utensils; he anointed them and consecrated them also. The tabernacle was a sacred building. I deduce, based on this that we can anoint our homes and so set it apart to YHVH. It is important to remember that there is no special power in this anointing. All power is from YHVH. We cannot sin and then anoint our homes and think it will remedy the situation, repentance is what is required when we sin. I read a testimony of a man who watched a horror movie, this scared him so much he had to sleep with his light on. The horrible images stayed with him. The next day he decided to anoint his home to get rid of the demons, but YHVH showed him that he was to repent of watching that movie and ask YHVH to
  • 138. Leviticus 14:51 51 “Then he shall take the cedar wood and the hyssop and the scarlet string, with the live bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird as well as in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times. This procedure can only be done by a priest. The reason I am showing this is to show that a cleansing ritual was prescribed in this case. I do not see any harm in anointing your home with oil while dedicating it to YHVH as long as you remember that there is no special power in the oil. It is YHVH that cleanses, not the oil. After the cleansing and dedication, we are to make sure we do not bring cursed objects into our homes and we are to live our lives in purity and holiness. That means we are to keep the commandments. Keep YHVH’s commandments
  • 139. Keep YHVH’s commandments When we don’t keep YHVH’s commandments, we defile ourselves and these unclean spirits gain a right to return to afflict us. We see this in the Bible. When Israel strayed from YHVH these “nations” returned to afflict them. These commandments include the land Sabbath. The earth belongs to YHVH, and we are for this reason, to keep the land Sabbath wherever we are. It is very interesting how Israel kept the sabbatical year after they entered the land. That was no coincidence. We have written a few posts on how this commandment is a test of faithfulness. The next sabbatical year starts in Aviv 2016. Heed this call. The Sabbatical year is not to be spiritualized, it is a literal commandment that we are to keep. Leviticus 26:34–35
  • 140. Leviticus 26:34–35 34 ‘Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 ‘All the days of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it. Keeping YHVH’s commandments will ensure that YHVH keeps that protective hedge around us that protects us. We will still be tested, that is part of being a believer, but at least we will not be afflicted as a result of our sin. Conclusion We have learned in this study that land can become defiled by sin, especially idolatry, sexual immorality, broken covenants and bloodshed. When land becomes defiled, it attracts YHVH’s punishment, which will make it desolate. Defiled and desolate land is inhabited by unclean spirits,
  • 141. We can, however, cleanse the land and we have shown you how to do that. After the cleansing, we are to dedicate the property to YHVH and we are to live in obedience to Him. We are to be very vigilant and not allow any defilement in our lives or homes. Let us not be destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… You can read this whole passage in Hosea 4:1-19. This passage addresses the priests whom we supposed to teach the people to keep YHVH’s commandments, but didn’t. They were as a result of this destroyed. YHVH employ different means to do this. So, when we choose disobedience over obedience, we will also be destroyed. Spiritual defilement brings destruction. Micah 2:10
  • 142. Micah 2:10 10 “Arise and go, For this is no place of rest Because of the uncleanness that brings on destruction, A painful destruction. Spiritual defilement will result in punishment. YHVH does not punish us to get back at us for doing evil, but to get us to return to Him. We are to make the right choices, we are to cleanse ourselves and our homes and live pure and righteous lives. References

  • 147. Avraham said to the servant who had served him the longest, who was in charge of all he owned, "Put your hand under my thigh; because I want you to swear by Adonai, God of heaven and God of the earth, that you will not choose a wife for my son from among the women of the Kena`ani, among whom I am living; but that you will go to my homeland, to my kinsmen, to choose a wife for my son Yitz'chak." The servant replied, "Suppose the woman isn't willing to follow me to this land. Must I then bring your son back to the land from which you came?" Avraham said to him, "See to it that you don't bring my son back there. Adonai, the God of heaven — who took me away from my father's house and away from the land I was born in, who spoke to me and swore to me, 'I will give this land to your descendants' — he will send his angel ahead of you; and you are to bring a wife for my son from there. But if the woman is unwilling to follow you, then you are released from your obligation under my oath. Just don't bring my son back there." The servant put his hand under the thigh of Avraham his master and swore to him concerning the matter. (Genesis 24:2-9 CJB) 147
  • 148. It was the father’s duty to provide the bride for his son. Isaac was thirty-seven years old when his mother died and had waited upon his father to see when a bride would appear. Notice Isaac did not take charge of his own life by going about seeking his own bride. It was the responsibility of the father. You did not choose Me, but I chose you (John 15:16). Abraham chose his eldest servant for this very delicate job of finding a bride for Isaac. Even though the servant’s name was not mentioned in this whole story, it has always been understood the servant was Eliezer (Genesis 15:2). As was the custom when swearing an oath, the servant placed his hand under Abraham’s thigh, thus validating his oath to him. The thigh represented the seed of that person. If an oath were broken or violated, then the issued children from that seed would avenge the act of disloyalty (Genesis 24:2-9). Because YHVH had led Abraham out of the spiritual filth of Babylon he no way wanted Isaac to go back to what he had left behind. 148
  • 149. Now why would Abraham insist on a wife for Isaac from the same idolatrous culture that he had once been commanded to abandon? Surely there were many faithful and available converts in his camp, which had grown to at least several hundred. Bereshith 9:25-27 Then he said: "Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants he shall be to his brethren.“ And he said: "Blessed be YHVH , The Elohim of Shem, And may Canaan be his servant. May Elohim enlarge Japheth, And may he dwell in the tents of Shem; And may Canaan be his servant." The curse of Canaan passes down to all generations. This is the reason why Abraham was not willing to consider a Canaanite wife for his son. Long before this, it was Sarah who had understood that Ishmael could not qualify as the seed of promise because he was born of a descendant of Ham (Hagar). Later that son had to be cast out for he did not carry the seed of promise. For Abraham, staying away from the Canaanites and creating a line of descendants that was pure, was the key to inheriting the land. 149
  • 150. Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and all kinds of gifts from his master, got up and went to Aram-Naharayim, to Nachor's city. (Genesis 24:10 CJB) Eliezer took ten of his master’s camels with him. It is the number of Divine order; as in the Ten Commandments, the Ten generations from Adam to Noach and ten more from Noach to Avraham. Most significant is the idea of Eliezer being a picture of the Ruach HaKodesh. (1) Who has quickened and guided the Zionist movement and the restoration of the Jews to the land of Israel, and (2) Who the Father has sent to gather from the nations, restore, equip, and return to the Father's house, the Bride of Messiah Yeshua. The Spirit is currently restoring many believers, who are in covenant with YHVH through faith in the blood of Messiah, to the knowledge of their faith's Hebraic origins, their Israelite identity and responsibilities, and their heritage of the Spirit and Torah of YHVH. 150
