WHO are we supposed
to be worshipping?

God?
God means different things to different people.

How do we know
which one is the right
God?
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth:
thy word is truth.

1 Corinthians 8:5-6
For though there be that are called
gods, whether in heaven or in earth,
(as there be gods many, and lords
many,) [6] But to us there is but one
God, the Father, of whom are all
things, and we in him; and one Lord
Jesus Christ, by whom are all things,
and we by him.

GOD . . . of the Bible
Ephesians 4:5-6 One Lord, one
faith, one baptism, [6] One God
and Father of all, who is above all,
and through all, and in you all.

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at
any time; the only begotten Son,
which is in the bosom of the Father,
he hath declared him.

Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus…
for it is written, Thou shalt worship
the Lord thy God, and him only
shalt thou serve.
WHO are we supposed to be worshipping?

John 4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is,
when the true worshippers shall
worship the Father in spirit and
in truth: for the Father seeketh
such to worship him.

WHO do we worship?
GOD
As we know Him from His
Word

Acts 17:25
Neither is worshipped with
men's hands, as though he
needed any thing, seeing he
giveth to all life, and breath,
and all things

Deuteronomy 8:18
But thou shalt remember the
LORD thy God: for it is he that
giveth thee power to get wealth,
that he may establish his
covenant which he sware unto
thy fathers, as it is this day.

Revelation 4:11
You are worthy, O Lord, to
receive glory and honour and
power: for You have created
all things, and for your
pleasure they are and were
created.

Who is the focus of this
testimony?
I was saved when I was 12
years old. I went to church and
heard the pastor speaking and
after I went forward and I bowed
on my knees and prayed and I
asked Jesus to save me.

to show me my sin and my need
of a Saviour and gave me the
faith to believe on Him for
salvation.

If we really believe that God is worthy. . .
If we really believe that we are God’s
people. . .
If we really believe that Jesus is Lord. . .
Then shouldn’t we. . .

… find out what PLEASES
HIM
… find out what HE WANTS
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord,
and do not the things which I say?

How can we know what GOD
wants?
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to show yourself approved
of God, a workman that needs not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing
the word of truth.

So, what does the Bible say
that God wants?
John 4:23
But the hour is coming, and now
is, when the true worshipers
shall worship the Father in spirit
and truth, for the Father seeks
such to worship Him.

Why do we worship God?
He is worthy of our worship!

WHAT is worship
&
HOW do we worship
GOD?

WHAT is worship?
Music?
Singing?
Dancing?
Praying?
Other?

Some modern dictionaries define
worship as:
1. A feeling of profound love and admiration
2. (religion) show devotion to (a deity)
Sadly, this is where many people stop.
They do not search the Bible for answers,
but let the wisdom of men guide them
instead of the Holy Spirit: comparing
Scripture with Scripture.

But, what does the LORD say about
worship?
Let’s let the LORD speak for Himself.
Let’s see how the BIBLE presents it
(exegesis), without influence of
our own ideas, beliefs, or
traditions (eisegesis).

What do many
Christians consider
worship today?
These days it seems common to
see such things as . . .

“I love you Lord!”
“I’m going to worship you
forever!”
“I will live my life for you!”

The apostle Peter said
similar things . . .

The Bible says …
Matthew 26:33, 35
33 Peter answered and said to him, Though
all men shall be offended because of you,
yet will I never be offended.
35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die
with you, yet will I not deny you. Likewise
also said all the disciples.

What happened next?
He ran away and later denied that
He knew Christ

John 2:24-25
But Jesus did not commit himself
to them, because he knew all men,
And needed not that any should
testify of man: for he knew what
was in man.

We are filled with emotion?
(I … )
We are filled with the Spirit?
(Lord … )
When we say worship as
Christians, does it mean that …

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you
into all truth…[14] He shall glorify
me…

For example: Where is the
emphasis in our worship songs?
GOD or ME?
GOD-Centered or ME-Centered
CHRIST-Exalting or ME-Exalting

Song: Mahal Na Mahal Kita
Mahal na mahal kita
Mahal na mahal kita
Mahal na mahal kita

Are we celebrating how much
WE love God?
Or, are we celebrating how much
GOD loves us?
1 John 4:16 And we have known and
believed the love that God hath to us.
God is love; and he that dwelleth in love
dwelleth in God, and God in him.

The Bible says …
1 John 4:19
We love him because he
first loved us.

What does the Bible say is
the evidence of our LOVE for
GOD?
John 14:15
If you love me, keep my
commandments.

1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God,
that we keep his
commandments: and his
commandments are not
grievous.

For example (2): Where is the
GOD or ME?

Song: King of Majesty
You know that I love you
You know that I want to know you so
much more
These words are from my heart
I will live for you
I am devoted to you
Forever I’ll give my praises to you

Are we celebrating OUR
good works?
Or are we celebrating GOD’S works?
Isaiah 57:12 I will declare thy
righteousness, and thy works...

Psalm 107:22 And let them
sacrifice the sacrifices of
thanksgiving, and declare
his works with rejoicing.

For example (3): Where is the
GOD or ME?

Song: Faith
I’m reaching for the prize
I’m giving everything
Nothing will keep me from Him
I will live for you

The Bible says …
Psalm 115:1
Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us,
but unto your name give glory,
for your mercy, and for your
truth's sake.

(4) Where is the emphasis in
our songs?
GOD or ME?

Song: To God Be The Glory
To God be the glory great things He hath
done
So loved He the world that He gave us His
Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life gate that all may go in
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord …

Song: Majesty
Worship His majesty
Unto Jesus be all glory honor and praise
So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the King
Worship His majesty
Jesus who died now glorified
King of all Kings

Song: Jesus Paid it All
I hear the Savior say your strength
indeed is small
Child of weakness watch and pray
Find in me your all in all
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

Singing is NOT just
about feeling good
(taking)
It’s about glorifying God
for HIS great works
(giving)

Hebrews 13:15 By him [Jesus
Christ] therefore let us offer
the sacrifice of praise to God
continually, that is, the fruit
of our lips giving thanks to
his name..

In that way, SINGING is
more like PRAISE in the
Bible.
Psalm 69:30 I will praise the name of
God with a song, and will magnify him
with thanksgiving.
