- Since 2018 IFLA WLIC, the ISSN IC have developed new
services for the library and publishing communities and
the general public:
• Enhanced Transfer Alert Service (ETAS),
• Crowdsourcing to improve the quality of ISSN metadata,
• Enhance ISSN Portal’s pages/records to ease
indexation by search engines,
• Keepers’ Registry and more to come!

Transfer & ETASTransfer & ETAS
- Transfer is a voluntary code for journal publishers containing best practices
for transferring and receiving journals. It is promoted by NISO (USA).
- As from Sept 10th, 2018, ETAS is maintained by the ISSN IC (previously by
the University of Manchester, UK)
- Publisher registration is a two step-process:
- Signature of the Transfer Code of practice;
- Registration of publishers by the ISSN IC on its Portal (extranet).
- Transfer requests are filled in by receiving publishers.
- Transfer information is distributed on the new ETAS application maintained by
the ISSN IC with RSS feed available.
- Transfer information is also available to ISSN Portal subscribers.

corresponding to ISSN records;
- Site map files enable Search Engine crawlers (like
Google) to find out what ISSN pages are present and
which have recently changed, and to crawl the ISSN
Portal accordingly;
- By August 2019, 10% of the ISSN Portal have already
been crawled by Google.

- The Keepers Registry is a global monitor on the archiving
arrangements for electronic journals maintained by ISSN IC and
EDINA at the University of Edinburgh.
- 13 Archiving agencies (as of August 2019): Archaeology Data
Service, British Library, Cariniana Network, CLOCKSS Archive, e-
Depot, Global LOCKSS Network, HathiTrust, Library of Congress,
National Digital Preservation Program, China, PKP Preservation
Network, Portico, Scholars Portal, Swiss National Library.
- Further to EDINA’s withdrawal, ISSN IC will provide a new Keepers
Registry service based on the ISSN Portal from Dec. 1st, 2019
onwards.
