LinkedIn Talks With Students About Their Publishing Platform
San Jose, CA… Maya Pope-Chappell, News Editor for LinkedIn, came to San Jose State
University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Library to talk with students about LinkedIn’s publishing
platform.
News Editor’s choose posts to promote, helping publishers reach an audience of up to
380 million professionals. “There are long form and short form posts, long form posts are
generally 500-2,000 words; editors will not promote a post under 300 words,” says Pope-
Chapell.
LinkedIn’s publishing platform allows people to discuss a broad range of topics. “There
are a number of different channels that people can publish to, including: Public Speaking,
Editor’s Pick, Company Culture, and many more,” says Pope-Chapell.
Pope-Chapell focuses on promoting posts for the millennial population on the publishing
platform. When it comes to giving students guidance on topics to post about, LinkedIn provides
students with an editorial calendar each year. The calendar provides a monthly topic to post
about, with a specific hashtag so editors can find which posts relate to the chosen topic.
